The Hidden She-Wolf

Chapter 31

Ch. 32 / 63 Mar 24, 2026

I haven't left the room since the fight with Madison. I stayed the entire evening until it was the next day.

The morning I got up early, feeling the need for a run. My wolf was dying too.

Madison was still in her room asleep when I sneaked out and shifted into my white wolf. I covered my marking that screamed I was a member of The River Pack, a high rank and then I ran into the forest.

The Grey Pack was no more and I had planned to run until my wolf had had enough.

The surrounding wasn't brightly lightened as yet. I had awoken as well before the morning sun. I could find my way running through the forest without falling or hitting into anything. It was a wolf thing or was dwelling in the depth of the forest for 18 years apart of it?

It felt good racing through the forest alone. I felt a sense of peace, it relaxed me.

The morning sunlight had finally arrived. I was panting, tiredly. I went to a small river and licked some water quenching my thirst and preparing to head back to Madison before she assumed I had run off after yesterday's argument. I didn't want her to be searching for me. I've made her worried too much.

As I was about to move from the river, I was frightened by a strange very dark wolf who was at my right side. I was alarmed by him, I had frozen.

His dark eyes looked at me and lowered to the water taking a drink as well.

"Don't mind me, I'm just an old broken wolf," he said.

Within his voice, I could hear nothing but sadness.

I no longer saw him as a threat and turned away motioning from him.

"What happened to your tail?" he stopped me.

My head turned to look at him, saying nothing.

"Life has been hostile to you as well?" he asked another question.

Again I gave him no reply I was lost in his eyes which were now slowly flooding with tears.

"It was bitten off," I finally spoke to him.

I shouldn't have, he was a stranger and who knows what he could try to do to me. But seeing he was a sad wolf, who looked the same age as Madison or probably older I couldn't help feeling sorry for him.

"A tail can never grow back just like the returned of a dead loved one," he said with a crack in his voice consumed by sorrow.

His head turned back to the river. I looked at him for a minute and then I ran off returning to Madison.

On my way, I couldn't help thinking about the sad wolf. He seemed so lonely like I was. I hope he finds someone to love him and give him a home just like Madison did to me.

I was now starting to feel bad for wanting Madison to hate her nephew. I had to apologize to her.

Before I could arrive I had met the alpha in his large dark wolf form. His wolf was the biggest wolf I had ever seen. He was like a giant wolf. As much as I hated him I was curious about his wolf. I recollected the first time he growled, the excessive amount of wind that came from his mouth was almost like he was like the River Packs but with different special abilities.

He stopped as he spotted. My speed increased not wanting to have anything with him. Before I could run past him, he blocked me, stopping me.

I gave him a grave look as I did.

"Madison was worried about you," he said.

I ignored him and went around him.

"You should have let her know you're going for a morning run, she thought you were mad at her and ran away," I heard him behind me.

"Well, I didn't," I paused answering him.

I then continued on my way.

When I arrive at Madison's home. She was walking back and forth on the porch biting her fingernail.

Her face covered in worry was soon happy when she saw me that she ran to meet me before I could reach the porch.

"I thought you ran away because of yesterday," she said hugging me.

"I didn't, I'm sorry that I cause you to worry," I apologized.

She held me tighter.

"I'm sorry too," she too apologized. "Let's get inside."

We walked side by side.

Madison observed my fur and I saw sadness in her eyes.

She believed I kept covering my fur with dirt and blackness because I was trying to turn off any wolf who wanted to take advantage of me but I wasn't. She can never know why for my safety.

As I went upstairs to tidy up and get dressed, Madison informed me to return to the dining room for breakfast. When I got back down she was sharing out plates for us.

I sat around the table and started to eat, fried eggs and bacon accompanied by a warm cup of milk. I only wanted the bacon.

We ate silently around the table until I decided to break the silence.

"Were you the one who send the alpha to look for me?" I couldn't help asking.

She paused eating.

"I'm sorry, I was just so worried about you and mad at myself for upsetting you yesterday," said Madison.

"It's okay, let us just put that behind us," I told her.

She nodded and started eating again.

"Can I ask you a question?" I said.

"Sure, go ahead," retorted Madison.

My head lowered preparing for what I was about to ask.

"Does the alpha comes from a family with strange abilities?" I had to ask.

I heard a small laugh and my head turned to her instantly.

It seemed my question had somehow strangely amused her.

"Yes," she retorted.

"You see the male in my family only possesses that, I guess the one the moon goddess who believes the powers fit," explained Madison.

I nodded.

I wondered why he had to get it when he was so evil and cruel.

"Can I ask why you asked that question?" asked Madison.

My head lowered, wishing I didn't.

"His gigantic size and the strong wind that comes from his mouth when he growls angrily," I responded.

She nodded.

"And that wind is the smallest amount," said Madison. "You wouldn't want to see the true power of his growl or howl can produce."

My eyes widened terrified.

I now wondered why the Grey Pack feared him.

"Deucalion doesn't need a pack to help him put an end to his enemy, his strength, speed, and powerful howl can do it all," said Madison. "Alpha Deucalion was born an alpha and his terrifying red eyes that can scare even the dark says it all."

I wished I'd never asked her anything of how she bragged about him.

"I'm through," I told her as I got up from around the table.

"Wait," she stopped me.

"Today I want to start to teach you everything you should have learned growing up," said Madison.

"First, I'll teach you how to read."

I smiled excited to hear.

"Wait for me in the living room while I put away the dirty plate," instructed Madison.

I nodded and hurriedly went along. I couldn't wait to start learning everything I had missed out on all because of the Grey Pack.

Within a few minutes, Madison came into the living room with a box of strange things.

"What are those?" I asked curiously.

"These are books that I'm going to use to help you to read, but first I'll have to teach you the alphabet and the sounds of the letters."

I nodded.

Madison placed the box beside her and took out a small book that had beautiful and colorful pictures inside.

"This is A and A is for an apple," she said.

I smile and nodded.

"Give me a minute I'll be right back," she gave me the book and went away.

I searched through the colorful book for more pictures until they were through while waiting for her to return. Soon I started on another book in the box. Disappointedly most of the books were just words and I could not read them as yet. As I was to give up searching for more books with pictures, I found one.

I opened it and I was surprised to see what it was all about. I couldn't read but the picture of a white wolf with the same marking as mine allowed me to know, this book was not any ordinary book. It was a book about my pack, The River Pack Members.

Why did Madison have a book about us?
