The Hidden She-Wolf

Chapter 42

Ch. 43 / 63 Mar 24, 2026

The small one-room building I was in was the health area for anyone who needed medical attention. I learned Jane was the one in charge of the building.

The rain had calmed down and I followed Jane and the alpha from the building. The alpha wanted to show me around. He seemed to be determined for me to live among him and his pack.

I didn't understand why?

Recollecting how Madison stood up for me when I was nothing but a stranger to her and later ran me from her house when I'd grown to love her. I can't allow it to happen to me, again. I will not be hurt again by trusting anyone, I made a promise to myself.

There was not much to be seen when I left the building. All homes were pretty much the same, the surrounding of the building made from sticks and the roof straws.

"Our homes may not be as luxurious as the other pack, we are new and within time things will change for the better" Arkane informed me seeing how I was taking notice of each home.

My head lowered feeling ashamed of my action.

I had no problem with their home after all I once dwelled in a tree. I just hated being somewhere new and a place I didn't feel safe.

"I will make us rise one day and all packs will never look down on us again," said Arkane.

I looked at him and I couldn't help thinking about his scars and what's the story of his life.

"I'll be an alpha that protects you all and make sure you're safe and not taken advantage of ever again," his eyes motioned from Jane to me and soon to the surroundings watching the member of his pack as they go about their businesses.

"Jane show her where she'll be staying," ordered Arkane.

"Where will you be going?" Jane asked worriedly.

"I'll be guarding you all while you rest," he said.

He smiled at her and then at me, and soon he walked away.

Jane watched him concerned as he went away and disappeared between some bushes.

"Sometimes I hate how he spends so much time caring for us and less about himself," complained Jane.

"Follow me," she said sadly as she then turned to look at me.

As I did I leered at the area I last saw Arkane disappear and then before me making sure I didn't lose Jane.

I followed Jane into a large building. I looked around seeing I wasn't going to be alone. Several she-wolves were there and they seemed to be going through some extreme problems. There were high beds with leather to climb to lay on with another bed underneath them. The place seemed crowded and I felt uncomfortable sharing a room with total strangers.

"These are new she-wolves who heard about our new pack and want to join us" Jane informed me observing the tense feeling on my face.

"That bed is empty you will be staying here from now on," she pointed as she told me.

Jane then left me with the strange she-wolves. A few looked at me while the others mind their business. I walked over to the bed, the low one, and sat down. A she-wolf with brown hair and a swollen lip kept looking at me. I felt uncomfortable and lay down trying to hide from her non-stop gazing.

"What's your story new wolf?" I heard someone.

I sat up and saw it was her speaking to me.

"Nothing," I retorted and just laid back down. I didn't want to share my story with anyone

"It looks like you got raped or another wolf who isn't your mate got you pregnant and you're running from your abusive mate," she said eagerly to find out.

I closed my eyes not having any energy to deal with her.

"Won't answer me, won't you?" she said irritating me.

My eyes kept closed. I heard her begin to laugh soon crying.

I turned on my side. I wasn't going to stay here. I had planned late tonight to leave when everyone was asleep. It was better that way, for I was better off alone. I would be much safer then.

The late night as I waited for everyone to fall asleep. I slowly sneaked from bed and took my time to open the door. I then ran into the hoods having no clue where I would be going.

"Good luck where you're heading to," I heard Arkane.

I turned around and in the dark, he revealed himself to me.

I looked at him sadly.

"You didn't have to sneak out," he said as he now stood close before me. "No one within this pack is forced to do what they don't want to. If you wished to leave you can leave if you want."

"I'm sorry, but I don't belong here," I told him with tears in my eyes.

"How will you know when you won't stay to find out?" he asked.

My head lowered and I fought hard to hold back my tears.

"Because I once thought I belong with someone who made me believe she was always on my side until," I stopped. It was too painful to say.

I was glad rain had started to fall slowly before my tears had come rolling down my cheeks.

"She hurt you," Arkane completed my sentence.

My head lifted to his.

"Yes," I replied crying.

Arkane walked over to me and both hands went under my eyes wiping away my tears as the rain slowly fall on us.

"I know how you feel to trust someone and they later hurt you and soon you feel you're better off alone, for then no one can hurt you, again," he told me as his hand that was now wet by my tears moved from under my eyes.

I stared at him.

"Follow me," he told me.

I did until we were under a large tree that sheltered us from the rain that was now falling heavily.

My body jumped nervously as he put me on a low limp to sit while he stood beside me. His head kept away from me staring at the moon.

"I never asked your name for I knew this would have happened," said Arkane.

He knew I would have tried to run away.

"My name is Rain," I told him.

His eyes slowly looked at me and then back to the beautiful sight of the moon.

"I had once dwelled a life where I suffered every hour of the day. A life that will make any wolf be suicidal or go crazy," said Arkane.

Within his voice, I could hear pure sadness.

"What cause you not to give up in not wanting to feel any more pain?" I asked.

I wanted to ask about his scars but I couldn't. It was hard answering the she-wolf who was interested in my story, why would he be with me when I was just a stranger to him?

His head turned to mine and I saw his dark eyes grow darker as if it was glowing.

"Because within this wicked and cruel world there has to be a wolf who cares about wolves like us," he said. "And that will be me, the alpha of all rogues," he answered.

I leered into his eyes moved by his words.
