Seeing my father, the only family I had alive, hanging from the vine of a tree, that was tightly wrapped around his neck, naked and lifeless. I was in such shock that I didn't know if what I saw was true or were my eyes deceiving me.
"Rain, Rain," I heard Madison's voice.
My eyes opened and I found myself in bed in my room. I looked around confused.
"It was a dream," I said softly relieved it was, but not for Madison to hear.
I assumed I had lost my father but I was just having a horrible daydream. A hand rested on the side of my head trying to recollect how I'd gotten in bed. I remembered lastly, trying to solace Madison after she chased my father away discovering his lies to her.
I heard Madison begin to cry and I looked at her frighteningly now knowing what I thought to be a dream, a disheartening daydream wasn't. What I saw did happen. I did see my father's dead body.
I knew it was him, because of his scent and his eyes that were no longer filled with sadness and pain but nothing, looking at me as he hung from the tree as if he was somehow alive.
I wanted to burst out into tears but I couldn't. Not because I didn't want to cause any more rain but because I didn't want Madison to be curious about why I was crying for her mate. I didn't want her to know he was my father and the she-wolf she despises was my mother.
I softly touched her shoulder trying to solace her. After all, she was much closer to him. He was her mate.
Madison looked at me with the saddest look in her eyes and I couldn't help to hug her and fight hard to hide my tears.
Today she not only lost her fated mate, I too lost the only family I had.
"My mate killed himself," she cried to me.
"I'm sorry," I apologized not being able to hold back my tears anymore.
"I should have forgiven him when he begged me to. He would have been alive now," Madison now blamed herself.
"Please don't blame yourself," I told her.
I didn't want her to. After all, what had happened to my father was not her fault.
"It is, Madison didn't want to believe. He came to me for comfort and support for everything he has been through but because of anger and not wanting to forgive him. I foolishly push him away."
I didn't know what to say other than to hold her in my arms while I wept with her as well.
My bedroom door opened and surprisingly, I saw the alpha enter.
"Give me some time with her," he told me as his blood-red eyes looked into mine.
I nodded and left without putting up a fight with him. Madison needed all the help she could get now.
I went downstairs and sat on the couch crying knowing I'll never see my dad again.
The image of him hanging from the tree naked was now haunting me. I immediately got up from the couch and walked to the window staring at the rain.
Within a few minutes, I heard the alpha coming back downstairs. I wiped away my tears not wanting him to see me crying but still the rain was pouring outside. It seemed my tears weren't alone the cause of it. The thunder rolled and the lightning struck. The lighting felt like it was going to flash through the window. I quickly motioned from the window and there I saw the alpha looking at me. I returned his stare wanting to know if Madison was fine now but was too afraid to ask him.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he took a few steps closer to me.
I was surprised that I was speechless. I got myself under control and nodded.
"Madison is asleep, try not to wake her. She needs all the peace she can get now," he said as he began to walk away.
I nodded and watched him as his back turned while he steadily walked to the front door.
Every anger I had for him was buried deep inside of me by the pain and sadness of the loss of my father.
I somehow followed him seeing that he had left the house.
He glanced at me and I stopped at the stairs watching him while he opened the door.
"Try not to take a run alone in the hoods, next time" the alpha warned me as he opened the door.
I then recollected what had happened as he locked the door behind him and went off in the rain. When I find my father, it was too much pain to see him like that. I felt weak and I crawled away from him as the place began to darken. It seemed I was passing out and he was the one who found me and brought me back to Madison.
I didn't understand why the alpha doesn't want Alaric around me when he kept saving me. His action was perplexing me.
Madison didn't come from her room the entire evening. I didn't know if she was still asleep or not. I didn't bother to disturb her remembering what the alpha had said.
I felt a strong urge of hunger that was hard to ignore. I went into the kitchen to find anything I could consume. I ate some raw sausage and washed it down with some milk. I soon had a strange craving for rabbits. Recollecting what had happened to me the last time I went hunting for rabbit. I was captured by the alpha's men and brought here for punishment. If it wasn't for Madison's help I would have been killed by the alpha then.
I ignored the craving for rabbit and sat at the end of the stairs hoping to hear Madison somehow leaving her room.
She didn't.
It was almost night and still, I was waiting for her to see if she was fine. I couldn't wait anymore. I decided to go upstairs and check on her.
"Madison," I called standing before her door.
I heard no answer.
I again called. Still, I heard no answer.
I slowly walked away assuming she still may be asleep.
"I'm okay Rain," I heard her before I could be completely away from her door.
I hurriedly returned to her door, happy to hear from her.
"Go get something to eat and take a bath before going to bed, I'll see you tomorrow," she told me.
I heard the sadness in her voice. It greatly concerned me.
"Yes," I respond sadly and went to the bathroom to take a bath.
I had already eaten.
I took off my entire clothes and my head lowered sadly touching the mark, the waist of the tight pant had left across my bloated belly that seems as if it was growing every day with the amount of food I consumed. My hand ran across it wishing today wasn't such a sad day.
After I was through with my bath I entered my room got dressed and went into my bed.
It was hard for me to get any sleep. How could I when I lost the only family I had? What a life I had. I didn't understand why bad things always seems to happen to me and the alpha who was merciless and cruel, his life was much better than mine.
Was I only born to suffer and to be sad?
The thought of losing the only goodness within my life, Madison. I didn't want to sleep alone.
I immediately left my room and went to her door.
"Madison are you still awake?" I asked.
"Yes," she softly replied.
"Can I stay with you tonight?" I asked.
I heard her walking towards the door. As the door opened her swollen and red eyes met mine.
My heart ached to see her in such a way.
She walked back to her bed and I closed the door as I entered her room.
Madison back turned towards me as she softly sobbed. The night it was pouring with rain outside as I lay on my back behind Madison recollecting the image of my dad's lifeless body.
