Envy stood with her back to him. She folded her arms and was sniffing. Kayden Diego narrowed his brow and asked "what's the matter with you? Why have you been crying?"
"Yes, I've been crying. Someone so dear to me made me cry" Envy replied. Obviously feeling offended. "Someone so dear to you made you cry? Who is the person?"Kayden asked.
Envy is like a sister to him. He had never seen her cry before nor felt so offended. He would go even with anyone who made her cry so much.
She turned slowly and faced the serious expressionless face of Kayden Diego. "It's you, Lord Diego. It's you who has been making me cry" Envy accused him. Alarmed, Kayden Diego stood up and went to her. Holding her hands, "I made you cry? How?".
"How can you prefer a hybrid to me? I've waited to be your Mate for years, I refuse to accept any other one. I was desperately waiting, trying to make you see I was yours but you pretended not to see and returned one day with half a human mate!!" Envy started sobbing.
Kayden Diego left holding her hands and stared at her speechless. Did he ever show any interest in her? She's his younger sister's friend and automatically took her as a little sister. How can he even spare a glance of admiration? It was tantamount to him having ungodly feelings towards his own sister.
She never appealed to him as a future mate nor has it ever occurred to him to think about her in such lines. She rejected others because of him? How can she be so stupid?
"You are like a sister to me. I can't have you for a mate!!"Kayden Diego declared and returned to sit down.
"I am like a sister, not your sister lord. I've loved you for years and because I always want to be around you, I became your sister's best friend. What do I have to show for my years of love? Are you going to watch me suffer in vain?"
Lily had left her room and had come to find Kayden in his study. Besides the border patrol wolves, everyone else had gone to sleep. She got to the door and heard Envy's whining.
Lily squinted and heard her say another statement "I plead that you love me back. Reject that half human you brought home and choose me instead. I love you dearly and can't survive it if you don't accept me" Envy was pleading.
Kayden chuckled and said "that's never going to work between us. She's the one I want, not you. So put yourself together and accept the reality of me being your lord and she, your lordess". He was perceiving Lily's scent and stood up to check the door.
"No.. no you can't do this to me" she screamed and threw herself on him and Lily suddenly pushed the door open.
Kayden wasn't surprised but Envy was. She least expected anyone to enter Kayden Diego's study let alone a woman she suspected to be his mate. She hadn't met her but the description she heard about her fits into this woman who just entered.
Kayden stood with Envy in his arms and stared at Lily. Uncertain what her reactions would be. Will she misunderstand?. He violently shoved her aside and Envy staggered before regaining her stability.
Lily's fury was felt. She was staring at Envy with a killing intent. How dare she throw her miserable self on her man? Is this how casual werewolves women are? Kayden felt the heat of her wrath and was surprised she had already started exhibiting the traits of a jealous mate. Lily felt like splitting this woman's jaws apart.
Rather than be angry with Kayden Diego, Envy casts a menacing stare at Lily. She never thought a day would come when the lord would shove her aside this way but today she experienced it and even before this mistake of a wolf woman.
"Get out this minute. I will forgive you this once. But next time you cheapen yourself before me again, I will throw you in for the hungry prisoners to feast on" Kayden Diego thundered. She wants to put a rift between him and his mate.
She felt completely humiliated. She eyed Lily before storming out of the study. When she left, Kayden came towards Lily and wanted to place his hand on her shoulder but the latter avoided his touch.
"You are not sleeping?"Kayden Diego asked. He wasn't expecting her to still be awake this past midnight. "Oh..you want me to be asleep already, so that you can have the entire night to be with your mistress?" Lily was provoking him.
Kayden Diego was speechless.
A mistress? Does he look like someone who is interested in numerous women?.
She knew they had nothing together, but just pulled Kayden's legs. She pouted her lips and appeared to be angry. "You are angry with me?" Kayden Diego asked, staring at her.
"What rights do I have to be angry? You didn't even confess your love to me nor did you profess it before her. So why would I be angry?" Lily answered flippantly.
"But you do know I love you, I really do!" Kayden Diego corrected her notion. He loved her and he sure knew it. if not before but after he kissed her the other night, he was certain he did. In fact he was worrying about her if she loves him too.
"Prove your love Kayden Diego, prove it that I matter so much to you" Lily urged him. This feeling she has towards him, it can best be described as love. But shouldn't he profess his love for her first before his subjects?
"You want me to prove it?"
Kayden Diego squinted. She doesn't believe he loves her? Well, give me time Lily, and I will show you that I do. Kayden thought within himself. Lily didn't wait but bolted out of the study. She went back into her room and lay on the bed.
Soon Kayden Diego came to meet her. Showered and joined her. He wasn't having the slightest intention of staying with her for the night but because he felt she was angry, he had left his room to come to her.
He laid down beside her and cuddled her. "Don't be upset Lily. Envy used to be a friend of my little sister. I didn't notice she was having a crush on me, otherwise I would have avoided her. She was only feeling envious of the fact that she wasn't my chosen mate. It's you I love you Lily"
Lily said nothing. She opened her eyes and stared at the pointed nose of Kayden. He was waiting for her to say something but she was quiet. Was she still angry?
He doesn't know how to coax her further. He decides to say something else. "You went to see my mother?". " Yes, mother invited me as soon as you left for your study. Guess what Kayden, mum really loves me. And besides, I didn't know Ms Gracey is your aunt"
"Yeah, she is," he affirmed. "What else did you both discuss?" He wants to know what they both said. His mother was desperate for a grandchild and he knows he owns her. When he and Lily eventually get married, he would work towards that.
"Nothing much. Just wish we got married soon"Lily replied. As expected of his mother Kayden Diego thought. "I love your mom very much!" Lily added.
"Only her, what about me?"
Justin had also arrived that evening with Linda. They had to make plans for their wedding. Kayden Diego was aware and they needed to get their parents consent to pick an auspicious date.
Justin didn't check on his lord just spent the night with his mother. His father had died when he was little and only his widowed mother took care of him and raised him. He went to greet Linda's parents before retiring home to his mother.
Next morning, Kayden after having his breakfast, a servant told him that the royal father wants to see him urgently.
Instead of going straight to his father, he went out for a morning walk and took Lily along. He told her he was showing her around. Though there are servants who would gladly accept the responsibility, he decides to do it and gets to spend the morning with her.
When they returned, they met Justin and Linda. Linda bowed before the lord and the future lordess. She already heard from Justin and some pack members that they would be having a lordess soon.
She saw that Lily is a beautiful woman befitting to be by the lord's side. Kayden Diego decided to go see his parents and told Justin to come along. He was glad Linda was around. At least Lily will find a friend in her.
As soon as the men left, the two young women started chatting like two old friends. Lily got to know that Linda was Justin's mate and she told him that her mate had told them about their marriage.
They tattle on as Linda told her more about the werewolf world and answered some of her few questions.
When Kayden Diego arrived at his parents' quarter, he met them in the company of the wise one. Respectfully, Kayden bowed "Greetings to the wise one" and bowed to his parents as well.
"Welcome, the great Alpha of Middleton pack" Wise one replied.
"Kay Diego, we've been waiting for you for a while. The wise one needs to discuss an important issue with you"Royal father explained. He wasn't angry, only curious as to why the wise one insisted that his son be called for an emergency meeting.
"Ok. I am here now" Kayden answered simply. He wouldn't have come if he knew he would meet the wise one seated. He thought it was his parents alone and wanted to talk about himself and Lily.
"You may proceed with your message, wise one" , the Royal father instructed. The old man was probably the oldest in their werewolf clan. He cleared his throat and said:
"Lord Kayden, I must first congratulate you for meeting her first. And the real congratulations is what I am yet to celebrate with you" Wise one stuttered. Kayden was calm. He was wondering why the wise one was speaking in parables.
"I do not understand you, wise one" Kayden Diego blurted out. "Yes you won't, until I explain in detail. Do you mind if Justin stays or excuses us?"
"He's my trusted friend. He will stay, '' Kayden declared . When Justin heard that his highness referred to him as a friend, he felt excited. And Saw himself as his family and not a pack member.
"lord Kay Diego, I saw a future in which you became great and the greatest supernatural lord. In that future you have become immortal. And there's a certain person who has been blessed by the moon goddess and is the only one who obtained that favor. And there's a link between you and that supernaturally gifted one" wise one paused and looked into the sky chatting in an unknown language.
Kayden Diego glanced at Justin and then his parents and quietly was waiting for the great one to continue.
"Do you even know who your new found mate is?"the wise one asked with his eyes shut. Kayden Diego squinted. Why is he feeling as if what the wise one wants to say centers on Lily?
