'Melody was raped.'
'You got a souvenir from your waywardness.'
Those words kept repeating in my head like someone was playing it over and over.
Could the souvenirs be young pups, as Jay stated?
Did I really get Melody pregnant?
How did she end up being the woman brought to me that night?
Several thoughts bothered my mind. I had no answer, but one thing was certain. Melody and the woman from that night are one and the same person.
I cannot deny it anymore. The similarities were too many. Especially that kiss. I will remember that woman's lips even when I'm dead.
I almost confessed to Melody earlier, but I was summoned by my father in the middle of the night. At the Viscount's idea, we decided to move the plan and to launch an unexpected attack on our enemies. So we chose to attack them while they were asleep.
Thankfully, I was able to get the thought of Melody out of my mind during the war and we were able to take out most of the rogue army before sunrise.
King Worden, Miranda's father, also offered to go to war with us. So his soldiers arrived at sunrise and we were able to wipe out the entire rogue army.
I placed the rouge king's head on my father's feet. He placed it on Viscount Maximus' leg instead and he sang his praise.
Indeed, the man was worthy of praise. This would have been very difficult without his sudden change of plan.
His plan brought us quick victory, thus making a war that should have lasted at least three days go down in just one day. We were done by sunset and we returned home.
As soon as I mounted my horse to return home, only one name was on my mind. Melody.
I was worried about her. I do not know how, but I somehow felt pained and hurt. Every time I think of what she must have gone through just because of me, I couldn't help but feel bad.
We soon arrived at the Palace and as if thinking about her the entire time wasn't enough, Melody was again the first person I saw.
As soon as I arrived home with the army, I found Melody outside. It looked like she was leaving.
I wonder why she was leaving when father had specifically asked that they all stay there till we arrived.
My feet were moving on their own, taking me straight to Melody. I halted as I noticed that families were hugging and welcoming their mates and sons, while the siblings welcomed each other.
Melody stood a few feet away from me looking left out. However, two young kids hugged and kissed her, making her smile.
I felt a sudden thump in my heart as I saw them.
Were they Melody's pups? I mean, are they mine as well?
My feet resumed movement again, taking me towards Melody. I halted again as I heard Miranda's cry.
She was hugging her father and tears rained down her cheek. King Worden pushed her slightly and he turned her around to check her out.
She was bruised all over.
King Worden frowned as he asked what happened to her. Everyone became alert, thinking that the rogues had invaded the palace, but Miranda pointed in Melody's direction.
Was she really accusing Melody of hurting her?
That sounded like the greatest joke I've ever heard. Melody might be refined and beautiful now, but there was no way she would be strong enough to hurt Miranda. Besides, Miranda was strong and skilled in combat. How can a Mutton like Melody harm her?
Furthermore, Melody is soft-hearted. She would never raise a hand against anyone. And I know she wouldn't be dumb to do so to someone like Miranda.
"Melody attacked you?" Malcolm asked with disbelief.
"How can Melody do that to you?" Malfoy also asked.
Melody immediately hid the pups behind her and her stance.....
There was something about the way she stood. It was as if she was ready to attack whoever came close to her....or was she protecting someone?
"Arthur, this was a misunderstanding between the ladies," my mother said.
Miranda grunted but immediately kept quiet as she met mother's gaze.
"How can someone be so violent as to attack my daughter over a misunderstanding?" King Worden sounded displeased.
Mother shook her head and pursed her lips. Sofia scoffed and also pursed her lips. I could tell that she was trying not to laugh.
"Melody, did you do this?" Viscount Maximus asked in a harsh tone.
"She attacked me first." Melody showed her arms and pointed at her face.
I saw the scratch marks on her face and arm. I wonder why I didn't see that before.
How did she get badly injured? Her feet haven't even healed yet.
"Let's just go inside. You must all be tired after....." The viscountess couldn't complete what she wanted to say, as Viscount Maximus said,
"Apologise to her."
"I didn't do anything wrong to apologise for," Melody replied.
Viscount Maximus growled and moved towards her. He probably didn't like the fact that she disagreed with him in public.
I could never have imagined that Melody would stand to disagree with her father. I know that she was telling the truth because, as far as I have known her, she never lied.
I'm sure that Miranda must have attacked her first. But what I find amazing is the fact that Melody, my supposedly spineless and gutless mate, hurt Miranda, a stronger human and a much stronger wolf.
Judging by the look on the women's faces, I could tell that they were hiding something.
"Miranda, I think you should let this go. Otherwise...." Sofia left her words incomplete.
Miranda seemed to understand the incomplete words. She tried to stop her father from dragging the issue further, but King Worden was displeased. He wanted justice for his daughter.
King Worden went forward and stood between Viscount Maximus and my father. "Since she wouldn't apologise for what she did to my daughter, then she should be punished for disrespecting a princess, what do you say, Your majesty?"
Father was downcast. He didn't want to punish the daughter of his friend and the viscount was furious. He didn't like Melody's stubbornness.
"My momma won't be getting any punishment....." One of the pups behind Melody stepped out with a strong rage emitting from his young self. "... Because she didn't hurt the Princess."
Then the other one also stepped out, eyes glowing like fire. His teeth gritted as he looked at Miranda. I could feel his anger even from my position.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. How could these kids have such a glow in their eyes? Only special lycans get their powers at a young age. Could it be that they are lycans? Just like me?
I was still trying to decide if what I saw was real or not, but not in my wildest dreams could I have fathomed what came next.
I mean, I was floored to hear the boy say, "Momma didn't hurt the Princess, we did."
