Pregnant and Rejected: His Wolfless Mate

Chapter 17

Ch. 17 / 111 Apr 02, 2026

Melody

How dare he! How could he do that to me? Who does he think he is? Just because he is king, he thinks he can do anything he wants.

First, he rejected me and treated me like I was nothing tangible, then he taunted me for not accepting his rejection and when I was about to accept the rejection, he kissed me.

I placed my hand on my lips where he kissed me and all I could feel was anger.

If I was that young Melody who ran after Derek all her life, then I would probably be jumping with joy. But I am not that naive girl anymore.

I am Melody and I'm the mother of two strong young wolves and I am the would-be Luna of the Dark Flame Pack. I refuse to be treated that way.

I wish I could slap him some sense, but I couldn't do that just because he is the king. He is the Alpha king and should be respected.

However, I can't promise not to slap him the next time he does that to me.

Angrily, I marched towards my chambers where I met Sofia waiting outside.

"Melody, here, check this out." She brought a box with her. "Which outfit would you prefer?" She opened the box and brought out several dresses.

"Hurry up and choose." She placed it all on my lap after making me sit on the bed. "We only have tomorrow to arrange things, the joining is the day after, remember?

As much as I would love to stay away from everything that is connected to Derek, I just cannot cut Sofia out. She is so sweet, the exact opposite of her brother and besides, she is marrying my brother and will become my sister-in-law in a few days.

"Alright," I smiled.

Who am I to turn down my sweet princess? We went through the dresses together and I was able to choose the ones I wanted. I tested them out and they were the right fit.

"I have nothing else to worry about." She placed her head on my shoulder. "Now that you have your dress and it fits, I can rest and be assured that you won't disappear before my wedding."

"Why would you think that?" I moved so I could see her.

"You've done it before, Mel, haven't you? You disappeared days before my birthday."

Oh, I didn't remember that. Indeed, Sofia's birthday was around the corner back then when I was ousted from the pack.

"I'm sorry," All I could do was apologise.

Sofia was my best friend, yet I stayed away from her because her sick brother wanted me to. She didn't deserve that at all.

"So, you still won't tell me what happened and why you left?" Sofia asked, eyes staring deeply at me.

She looked like she could see my soul.

"I..." Sofia is my best friend. I shouldn't hide things from her. However, I couldn't bring myself to say the words.

What if she refuses to accept my brother after finding out what happened to me?

No. I mean Sofia isn't like that, but what if the king and his family think that we might tarnish their reputation with such a stain on our name?

wasn't that why Father disowned me and sent me away? So that I wouldn't ruin his age-built reputation.

"Tell me, Mel." She pressed. "Remember that we promised never to hide anything from each other."

Gosh. Sofia has her way of binding me with our promises.

"Sofia, the truth is, I was ousted from the house and packed by my father." I finally let it out.

This is Sofia, the girl who was willing to climb trees with me even though it was against royal etiquette. She is the girl who was willing to snub her brother just because he called me ugly. She is the girl who was willing to postpone her wedding just so I could attend. She is the princess of this kingdom and my best friend. She never hid anything about herself from me.

In fact, she made sure to tell me all that had happened to her in the years when I was gone. So why should I hide mine from her?

"You were ousted by the Viscount?" She sounded surprised. "But why?"

"Something happened to me back then on the day of Father's coronation and he blamed me for it and banished me from the pack."

"What happened that made him do such a cruel thing to you? I mean you were so young back then. How could he have done that to you?"

"Well...."

I might have told Sofia a few times about how my father doesn't care about me. However, I'm sure she is finding it hard to believe that my father would do such a cruel thing to me. Well, he did. He sent me away from home right when I needed my family the most.

"That night, I was....."

The ringing of my phone brought silence between us as I searched for it and checked who the caller was and unsurprisingly, it was Dorian.

He calls me more than six times in one day. Sometimes he makes up excuses of wanting to speak with the pups, but I knew that he was only cooking up excuses.

"Hey darling," his voice called through the receiver.

"Hi," I replied and looked at Sophia who seemed anxious to find out what happened those years ago.

I blocked the phone with my hand and turned to Sophia. "Excuse me, Sofia, I need to answer this."

"Alright," she nodded and I took off to go speak with Dorian.

"How are you, my dear Luna? How are you holding up? Hope you aren't getting bullied?"

My eyes were laced with tears as soon as he said that. He knew me too well to know when something was wrong.

I wish he was here right now.

"Bullied? Of course not." I smiled.

"Good, you better not." He chuckled. "Remember, you are Dorian's Luna. You can't get bullied by anyone. You can bully everyone, but no one can bully you, okay?"

"Okay," I chuckled. His words of encouragement warmed my heart. Even though we aren't married yet, Dorian never ceases to refer to me as his Luna. I can't wait to fulfil this dream of his. He deserves it after all he's done for me.

Suddenly, there was a long silence. I had to check the phone several times to be sure that he was still on the line.

"What happened, Dorian? Why aren't you speaking?"

I could hear his sigh over the phone.

"I miss you, Mel," he whispered, making a tear roll down my eyes. "I miss you so much that it's starting to hurt."

I missed him too and I'm sure my pups miss him too. He has become a huge part of our lives that can't be erased.

I also became silent and sighed, mimicking his actions earlier. I know he must be worried sick about us. So I decided to help him calm down.

"I miss you too, Dorian and that is why we'll be coming back in two days."
