Pregnant and Rejected: His Wolfless Mate

Chapter 22

Ch. 22 / 111 Apr 02, 2026

Derek

This isn't right.

Why does the Viscount have so many hurtful words to haul at Melody? Those words were too cruel and shouldn't even be used on an enemy. And to think that he was actually talking to his daughter.

I have always seen how much The Viscount loved his children. I never knew he harboured so much hatred for Melody.

'Well, that makes two of you.' Jay hissed.

He has been screaming and struggling to be let out since the beginning of the conversation going on in there.

I managed to hold him off somehow.

I can't imagine having my wolf attack Viscount Maximus. It will be a war I'm not sure I will win.

Besides, what would I say? For what reason did I attack the man?

'He insulted our mate!' Jay replied again, making my head ache.

I wanted to say that Melody wasn't my mate anymore, but I couldn't because I knew that she could still feel the bond.

However, what baffles me is who did that to her.

Who raped her? And why did it have to be on the same night that I had that.....

"No. No. It definitely can't be." I disagreed as a thought crossed my mind.

I mean, what are the odds?

I couldn't be the man who raped Melody, could I?

No. I couldn't possibly be.

'And how would you know?' Jay was back again, choosing the wrong time to mess with my head.

Really. How would I know?

I never saw the woman's face, except for her intoxicating scent. Which didn't smell like Melody's.

'You don't even know what Melody smelled like before.' My wolf stated the truth, but somehow it hurt.

I mean, I knew nothing about Melody except that she was that annoying, ugly, wolfless girl.

'Well, she isn't any of that anymore.'

Gosh. I wish I could kill my wolf.

Why has he chosen right now to be a pest? It's the last thing I need right now.

I'm so confused and, for some reason, I'm starting to feel guilty. Did I really do that to her?

What if I really was the ......

I soon realized that Viscount Maximus made mention of some souvenirs. What are those?

Oh, goddess. I think I will go crazy trying to find out all these things.

'Souvenirs as in pups, fool. I think you have pups with....'

'Keep quiet, Jay!' I yelled.

'Alright.'

Suddenly, it was quiet. When Jay decided to leave my head, it became quiet and I was able to think.

Melody left the pack approximately three months after the coronation party. Apparently, she didn't leave as we all thought. I can't believe that The Viscount would banish his own daughter.

He made her a rogue, just because she was raped....no...

My eyes widened as realization kicked in.

He didn't banish her because she was raped. He banished her because she was pregnant and they didn't know who the father was.

Goodness!

Am I that man?

Gosh. I wish I had seen that woman's face, then I probably wouldn't be dying of guilt right now.

Donovan. There's only one man who should be able to identify the woman and that's Donovan, but what do I say?

How do I ask him about this without sounding or looking desperate? Besides, the man has been out of town for over six months. I do not know when he'll be back.

This is killing me. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for Melody.

She was so young back then and she had to go through all of that on her own.

"I will not rest until I have killed the man who put her through this!" Malfoy's thick anger-filled voice travelled to my ear.

Oh no.

I hope I'm not that man. Because I can't imagine how these people would react when they found out. I wonder how my father would react. I also do not know if Malcolm would still be my friend if I happened to be the one who ruined their sister's life. I don't want to lose my best friend.

Goodness. What am I even thinking?

It definitely can't be me.

I shook my head disapprovingly. I know it wasn't me. I didn't get Melody pregnant. I didn't. She wasn't that woman. It couldn't be.

I don't know why I was repeating that to myself.

I hid myself as I heard footsteps coming towards the door. But then the Viscount called for both men and I could not hear them anymore. I was about to go inside when I noticed a slim figure opening the door.

Her demeanour was covered in dejection. She could barely walk. Her only support was the wall.

I wonder what happened to her leg. She was walking strangely earlier too.

I watched as Melody stumbled her way out of The Viscount's study. She squatted suddenly and hugged her knees, crying profusely.

I expected that, though.

However, I must commend the fact that she didn't cry while her father hauled those words to her.

I felt a strange stab in my chest seeing her so sad. She tried to get up once again, but couldn't, so she ended up crawling until she was a few meters away from the study. Then she sat there and seemed to be searching for something.

When she couldn't find it, she cried harder. She was saying something like she was calling out to someone.

I wanted to leave and ignore her, but I don't know why I couldn't and instead of going towards the Viscount's study room to discuss the plan for tomorrow's war, I found myself walking in the opposite direction.

Melody saw me and I could swear I heard her say, "Not another one."

What does she mean by that?

I picked her up without knowing what to do next. I just knew that I couldn't leave her there, in that state.

She struggled to get out of my arms, but I made sure she was well-secured right there. I was staring at Melody and taking in her transformation.

Indeed, she has grown stronger and tougher. Her tears were off her face like she wasn't the woman I saw weeping miserably earlier, unlike the young and weak version of her.

"What are you doing?" She queried daringly. Her tone was void of any form of respect or emotion.

"Melody, you and I need to talk."
