I didn't know how to stop Melody from saying those words. I couldn't let her sever the bond just like that.
I mean, I have to find out what is going on with me first. Melody was in a hurry to end it all. Years ago, no matter how many times I shouted at her, she wouldn't leave. No matter how many times I pushed her away, she stuck around, but now, she wants to sever our bond just like that.
Did that Alpha bewitch her? Or is she his mate?
That is impossible and I know it. The possibility of a wolf having two mates is slim, very slim. And a wolf can't get a second chance mate when their bond with their previous mate is still intact, so what is going on?
Why has Melody let go of her feelings for me?
"I, Melody Wayne, accept your....."
No way!
I was snapped out of my confused thoughts at her words. She wanted to accept it, but I wouldn't let that happen.
My mind was confused, I didn't know what to do to stop her from saying those words, so I did the only thing that came to my mind.
I kissed her.
Melody struggled to push me away, but she couldn't overpower me, not even if she had a wolf.
I intended to stop her from saying those words. However, as soon as my lips touched hers, there was this sudden feeling of deja vu.
Why does it feel like I've done this before?
I hated this woman for most of our lives. If she's been any close to me, it's recently and I do not remember kissing her since she arrived, so why do I feel like I have?
I held her close and deepened the kiss as she gasped. I wanted to find out what was happening.
Melody was struggling. She pushed at my chest, but it did nothing to stop me from kissing her. Thus, a kiss that was meant to stop her became a passionate kiss.
I finally released her, so she could breathe. She pushed me violently and raised her hand to slap me probably.
However, she slowly brought down her hand. I guess she realized who I was.
"You are the king doesn't mean you can take advantage of people."
I was so busy in my thoughts that I didn't see her leave.
Why? Just why does it feel like I have kissed Melody before? Why does her lips taste familiar?
Why does she taste like the woman from that night?
Have I gone so crazy that I'm seeing that woman in Melody?
Melody!
Of all the women I could link to that mysterious woman from that night, why Melody?
"So this is what you do behind my back, huh?" I turned abruptly to find Miranda coming towards me.
"What?" I was irritated.
The fact that I still can't wrap my head around what is happening has got me agitated.
"I saw you, Derek. You kissed that girl."
"So?" I hissed.
I didn't care if she saw me or not. I am king. I can have as many women as I want.
"Derek, she is your best friend's sister! She is Sofia's best friend! And you are my fiance! You are the king!"
"Exactly!" I yelled back. "I am king and I can do what I want with whoever I want! I owe an explanation to no one and especially not to you!"
Who does she think she is?
I went back in search of Melody. I need to ask her why she is messing with me. I need to find out what she is doing to me. I must find out why she has turned my perfect life upside-down.
"Where is Melody?" I asked Sofia who was staring at me as if in search of some clues.
"What do you want with her now? Didn't you already discuss your 'important' matter?" She poured several questions at me.
"Sofia, you know that you shouldn't reply to one question with another, right?" My eyes searched for Melody as I spoke to Sofia. I know she must be somewhere around.
Is she hiding from me?
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I do not know where Melody is," Sofia replied. I studied her and figured that she was lying.
"Tell me where Melody is, Sofia, that's an order!"
"She went to answer a phone call from her fiance," Sofia couldn't resist my Alpha tone. No one can. However, she only told me what Melody was doing, she still didn't tell me where she went.
"Do not evade my question!"
Sofie flinched and pointed in the opposite direction. "There. She went there."
Without delay, I went after Melody. I have to find out. I have to find out why I am feeling this way.
What did she do to me?
"Your Majesty."
I halted midway as I heard that strong voice. I turned around to find Viscount Maximus standing right behind me.
Shit! What is he doing here now?
"Viscount Maximus," I replied to his call.
"Your majesty," he bowed. "I have been looking all over for you."
"Why? What happened?" I asked impatiently.
I wonder why he chose this time to find me.
"You have to return to the palace right away. There is an urgent issue that needs your attention."
Now, that hit me.
"What is it?" I could tell from the Viscount's face that the matter was indeed serious.
"Your majesty, why don't we return to the palace together and I'll tell you everything on the way."
"Alright," I looked back in the direction where Melody was said to have gone.
I wish I could ignore this and go find her, but I can't. I'll have to deal with this first, then return to settle my issues with Melody. I will make sure that I find out everything I want before she leaves this place.
I do not care if I will have to tie her or lock her up somewhere, but I won't rest until I know why I am like this.
I returned my gaze to the viscount and brought my heart to the issue at hand which is the fact that I was needed in the palace. "Let's go."
