The hospital was waiting for us when we finally arrived there.
I was super surprised, but extremely glad when he had finally allowed me to pull Max and Cora from the wreckage. It was a shock that it had not blown up yet. The smell of petrol was so overwhelmingly powerful that I thought I might pass out on the floor, but my wolf had pushed me to keep on going. I thanked my lucky stars for all the training and strength that I had gained at Eclipse.
I wanted nothing more than to get away from this disgusting waste of wolf oxygen, but he was the only way I could get these two to safety quickly.
“If anyone asks, I was passing and helped at the right time.” He made sure to keep reminding me of his little story.
I didn’t care about what he was saying. I was just more worried about my mate and sister being ok. If anything happened to either of them, I would kill him myself.
“She’s going to make a full recovery.” The nurse said and I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
My eyes darted across to my so-called father and the hatred I felt for him made my blood boil.
He looked pleased about that news and then turned to me with a grave look on his face.
The nurse left the room, and I felt the cold air on me as he got closer.
“This would never have happened if you had just stayed true and given Miller a chance. Now it’s all a mess.” He growled quietly causing me to stand up straight and hold my head up high.
No.
He was not going to blame me for all of this and act like I should have accepted a dirty lying cheat of a mate.
The moon goddess has blessed me with a new mate, one who was respectable and loving towards me. Everything that Miller could never ever be.
“Daniel has Millers mate and that is nothing to do with me. I have nothing else to say to you. I am simply here for my sister and Max.” I retorted, bravely much to his dismay.
He never did like being spoken down to by a female.
But he was not my real father, and I did not owe him anything.
Not a thing.
“Daniel will not get very far.” A cunning smile broke out on his evil face.
Daniel would be a lot further away by now, that I was certain of.
“Right, I’m going to get myself a drink and when I get back, we will talk about what happens next.” He stood up so tall and towered over me as if trying got make me feel intimidated.
“Cora. Wake up. Come on.” I leant over to whisper in her ear. I gazed at her closed eyes and urged her to wake up for me. I needed to get away from here and and wanted her to come with me. He was not a nice wolf and I worried what he would do if I ran off without Cora.
I did not want her to be at the hands of his temper.
“Mums alive.” Her eyes fluttered open and those were the first things that left her lips.
I held my breath and hoped to the moon goddess that it was not him who had just walked back into the room. If he knew about her being alive then that would put Eclipse in danger.
I looked up and gasped at the figure standing in front of us.
Miller.
What on the world did he want.
Why was he here.
I hated him.
He has no right not be in this room with us.
“What do you want?” I growled, marching right over to him, and pushing him into the wall with such force that he was stunned for a slight second.
“He won’t be coming back.” Miller muttered gently pushing me off him and going over to Cora’s bedside. She was sitting up staring at us with huge saucer eyes.
“What do you mean he isn’t coming back?” She stuttered her voice shaky.
I knew that she knew exactly what he had meant.
“I had my beta see to it that he will never come back to hurt you. Either of you.” He made a point of catching my eye when he spoke that last part of the sentence.
“And as for Max, well he is going to be ok. The nurse is checking on him now. Then she will be along to get you.” Miller told me and I scowled because I did not understand what he was playing at.
What did he think that I was suddenly going to fall at his feet and worship him for saving us from the big bad monster my so-called father had turned into.
“I don’t care about any of that now. I need to see my mate.” I shoved passed him, but he grabbed my hand and pulled me back to him. I gasped as we were suddenly eye to eye. Once upon a time that moment would have melted me into a pile of mush but not anymore. That bond was broken and never again would I ever feel attracted to such a scumbag like Miller.
“Wait, listen. I need your help. Please.” He said causing my ears to prick up and my eyes shift back to him.
Did I just hear that right?
He wanted my help.
“I don’t owe you anything.” I spat and wrenched myself away from him.
“Hear him out please, Isla. You really do not have to be such a brat all the time.” Cora shouted, swinging her legs from the bed like a little child.
Miller raised an eyebrow surprised at her sudden loyalty towards him.
I stepped back and looked from him to her suspiciously.
“What’s going on? Something I should know about?”
“No, nothing like that actually.” Miller held his hands up in defence and then sent Cora an apologetic smile as she threw daggers his way.
“What’s wrong with me?” Cora pretended to pout and look offended.
I felt sick at the thought of him with my sister.
“If you’re trying to make me jealous then don’t bother, I’m over it all.” I pointed a finger at him and shook my head. Then I planted my self back into the seat. Crossing my arms over my chest and waiting for him to explain what he really wanted.
All I wanted was to get out of there and find my Max. We had not marked each other just yet so it was impossible to feel him so well.
But I was determined to mark him and make him officially mine.
“I need Mora to come back. I need help finding her and Daniel. Pembroke is falling apart. I am afraid that one of the pack members will challenge me for my title.” He sighed.
I could suddenly see how all this must be hard to carry on his shoulders. Not that I felt sorry for him or felt an ounce of sympathy. I mean, it was karma, right?
“So, you’re saying that you want me to come back to Pembroke and help you even after everything that you put me through?” I should laugh as it was all too crazy to be real, but it was real, and this was happening.
He nodded his head and shifted uncomfortably.
“What else is there?” I knew that was not all of it.
“Your father wants to take over the pack and with Max and you I can protect the pack better. I would like to ask you to train my pack to make them better. I know it’s a lot to ask but please. I am desperate.”
“Where is he now?”
Miller hesitated.
“He’s locked up on the back of the truck. My beta had a witch make up a potion to knock him out or won’t last long but long enough to get him well away from here and Pembroke. He was planning to tear Pembroke and Eclipse down, as well as Brookhaven. He is dangerous, Isla. You must believe me.” He knelt and took my hands; I could see that he was telling the truth and then my sister suddenly jumped up.
“It’s true. It’s all true. Daniel got wind of what was going to happen, so he took Mora and the baby and fled.” Cora explained.
I sat in silence for a few moments gathering my thoughts and processing what was being told to me.
So, my father had been planning to take the packs for himself and kill whoever got into his way. He could be tried and killed for that.
“He needed you back at Pembroke out the way because he knows the daughter of Alpha Ed. He knows how strong and powerful you are.” Cora continued and I was so astonished by her words. How she knew all of this.
“That is why I came to Eclipse. To warn you.” Cora started to cry as all the emotions took over her and I rushed to her. Holding her in my arms and stroking her face.
“I heard him talking about his plans with someone and that’s when I informed Miller and then fled. He must have sensed I was there and came after us.” She cried into me, and I soothed her like a baby. She might not be my blood sister, but I still cared about her.
“It’s ok. We will sort this out finally. I will help you.”
Miller gave me a nod of appreciation.
“Don’t think this makes us friends though.” I warned him.
“Max will see you now, if you wish.” The nurse knocked on the door, poked her head around and announced. She quickly disappeared back down the hall as her buzzer went off for her next patient.
Max.
I needed to see him.
“Go to him. We will be here waiting.” Miller told me and he sat beside Cora, she fell into him.
That so called father was not going to get away with this.
