Her Rejection, His regret

Not what it looks like

Ch. 38 / 64 Feb 16, 2026

Isla’s POV

Shifting my furious glare to Miller accusingly I wanted to rip his head off his arrogant shoulders.

He must have known that they would be here.

“What?” Miller caught me glaring his way and got all defensive.

“You that knew they were here, didn't you?” I challenged him to come clean over my suspicions, but he remained adamant that he had known nothing of the sort.

Max calmly put an arm around me and whispered to me to let it go, there was no point in starting an argument as it would not change anything.

“Wait what?” I shoved him off me and realized it was him who had known about where Daniel would be. He was the one who had told Miller’s beta were to drive too.

How come he was so cool and chilled about the whole situation?

“Daniel knows your father better than anyone else. This is where we leave him. He won't find his way back. We are miles out of our kind.”

It took me a while to get my head around what he was saying. So, he had planned for us to meet with Daniel and Mora so we could leave that scumbag with them.

“I had my men find Daniel and we agreed to meet. Miller’s beta knew about this too. My plan was to take you back to my own grounds and deal with this myself. I did not want you involved.”

That did not make any sense and I wanted to know how this was even a clever idea. My brother had done a runner with the girl who had stolen my mate and now my second change mate wanted to help them.

“Why Max?” I questioned him and he smiled down at me.

“Look, they wanted help, and this is the way I am helping,” Max explained, and he opened the door of the truck and jumped out. I could not believe that this was happening.

Mora stood a few feet away and I looked at Miller who seemed silent was he could not look at her or the baby.

Unbuckling my seatbelt, I slid over to follow Max out and confront them. I was not going to sit back and say or do anything.

“Oh no, Isla. Come back.” I heard Cora yell after me, but I was not going to listen to her.

This needed sorting and I needed answers.

Daniel came to me and held his arms out to hug me, but I clenched my fist and punched him straight in the face. I heard a crack as he immediately felt for his nose and blood was pouring down him. He fell backwards almost losing his footing and groaned in agony. There were a few gasps of shock at what I had just done but I could not care any less.

“Isla, not please stop,” Mora exclaimed, cradling her little bundle closer to jet as if she were afraid that she was next on my list.

“I know that you hate me for stealing Miller and not being the nicest to you which I am very sorry about all that but please just stop all of this nonsense now. We need to try and work together now.”

Wow.

Was she for real.

Had she had a complete personality change?

“Ok, fine. Let's get this out the way shall we!” I spouted finally had enough of it all. I had been treated like shit my whole entire life and she was the main cause of it. I hated her with everything that I had.

“Isla, cone on be reasonable, she's just had a baby. The real culprit is not any of us but that father of ours. He wants us all dead so he can have everything to himself.” Daniel shouted as he tended to his bloody nose. I was shocked.

“He is the real enemy here.” Miller butted in with his part. I just threw him a deathly glare, but he ignored that and carried on.

“You know, your father is the reason why me and Mora were forced together. He did not want me to be mates with you. He knew that you were not his biological daughter.” Miller carried on and I could not believe what I was hearing.

Max nodded but remained silent.

What in the name of the moon goddess was this?

“Look, lets go inside and talk this over later. Right now, we need to get rid of him.” Daniel pointed to the back of the truck where our so-called father lay unconscious for who knows how long.

“He is dangerous. He's been put out with a strong mixture from Esme. She's one of my sisters’ friends from college. Her grandmother is one of the strongest witches around. That potion isn't going to wear off just yet.” Miller’s beta appeared from the front of the truck and assured us all.

“But how did you get him in there?” I suddenly asked very curiously.

“Well, that was quite easy really since he came out and asked for a smoke. Then bam. He won't be coming around any time soon.” he grinned feeling very proud of himself.

“Right, so let's get to it.” Miller quickly took control, and I watched as Max and Daniel pulled the truck cover-up. I did not want to look as they hoisted him up and dragged him down.

“Where are you going to take him?” I was not sure I wanted to know the answer to that, but something made me say it anyway.

Max did not answer me. Not did Miller. They acted like they had not heard me.

“Oh, my goddess. Is he dead?” Cora began to hyperventilate.

“No, he is not dead. Please don't worry.” Max assured her and she sat down on the ground in floods of tears. I rolled my eyes and went to comfort her. He was a horrible father and the things that he had done were totally unforgivable. However, Cora clearly loved her father still and did not want to see him in such a bad way.

Whereas me, I could not care any less what happened to him now. Yeah, that might make me seem like a heartless cow but after everything that he had done, who could blame me for feeling that way towards him?

“He won't be seeing the time of day another time soon, put it that way.” Miller spat on the ground.

Mora gently ushered me and Cora towards the apartment where she and Daniel had been staying.

“Look, come inside I have to put the baby down for a sleep anyway.” Mora sighed and I reluctantly followed her along with Cora.

The little apartment was freshly painted with white walls and looked clean and tidy. Not exactly very homely but more of a show home.

I was quite surprised by that but did not make a deal of it. I wasn't here to make polite chit-chat.

“Look, there is a basement under the main barn out there. That's where they will be holding him,” she said quietly.

Cora stared into space as a few tears ran freely down her cheeks.

“He doesn't know mother is alive,” she mumbled to herself.

My eyes darted back to Mora who was settling the sleeping baby down in a crib.

“That is not Daniels baby, is it?” I got straight to the point and Mora refused to meet my eyes.

“Isla. You can't say that. It's rude.” Cora gasped, coming out of her little daydream.

“What makes you think that?” She turned to me and said with her head held high and confident.

Wow, she was even convinced.

We were interrupted by the door being pushed open.

I glared at him when I saw it was my brother.

“Nice to see you too sis, you broke my nose.” Daniel came bounding in all cleared up and changed into fresh clothes.

I scoffed.

That was his own fault.

I hated how things had gone downhill. We used to be so close.

Him getting with my worst enemy had really hurt me deep down inside. Like he had betrayed me.

“Let's not get started on what you have done.” I sulked childishly and wondered why Max was taking so long.

I wanted to forget about all of this and just leave.

“Your sister thinks this is not your baby.” Mora suddenly came out and spoke.

She was trying to push me for a fight.

“What?” Daniel looked at me and frowned.

Mora stood by him, and he wrapped his arm around her. She kept her eyes on me and I knew she was about to go on one like a ticking time bomb.

“I know you think that baby is Miller’s but trust me, it's not. I hate him and would not have been near him for so long. He was nothing but a lying dirty cheat. None of you knows what he was like behind closed doors.” Mora looked away, tears in her eyes.

“Then we realised that we were in fact mates. Trying to keep that quiet was not easy.” Daniel pointed out and I just sat silently, listening to them.

Cora was staring out of the window in her own little world.

“I never cheated on you. I don't know why you kept saying that. You are the one who ran away with him.” Miller had been standing in the doorway listening and I had not noticed him there at all.

Mora curled up her top lip and growled slightly.

“That mark on you meant nothing.” Miller threw back at her.

“Dont speak to her like that.” Daniel warned him.

“I think we should head back.” Miller turned to me and Cora, ignoring Mora rudely. Daniel bit his lip and grunted as he tried to calm himself down.

“Yea, Let's go.” Cora could not get out quickly enough.

“It's done.” Max came into the room, and I could not believe my eyes when I saw he was covered in blood.

“Get Cora out of here,” I shouted leaping up and ushering her into the truck.

“Isla?” Max called me and sounded confused.

I pointed at his top and shook my head.

Max looked down at the blood on him and then back at me.

“It's not what it looks like.”
