Her Rejection, His regret

57 Esmeralda

Ch. 56 / 64 Feb 16, 2026

Cora.

My sister.

I almost fell as I ran it was as if my feet were going in different directions.

So many questions field my mind.

Max Miller and Ed, none of them was important right now because all I wanted was to see Cora, I know that she was okay.

“Please be gentle with her.” Eric stood in the doorway and said to me, but I scowled as I pushed my way passed him.

She was my sister.

What did he think that I was going to do?

“Oh, Isla.” She gasped as she rushed over to me. I closed the door behind me and embraced my sister into a hug breathing her in and crying into her long hair.

“I’ve missed you so much.” She wept.

I placed my hands on her shoulders, so we were face to face.

“I’m so glad that you have your memory back, are you ok?” I stroked a stray strand of hair from her face and beamed through my own tears.

“What happened?”

“I really don’t know; I mean one minute I’m asleep and the next thing I’m awake screaming. I remember the crash finding my mate and the whole Mora and Miller baby business. But the strangest thing is I had a weird vision.” She rubbed her head and looked so confused as she tried her hardest to make sense of whatever she was trying to tell me.

“Max is not who he says he is. I overheard Ed and him talking. He’s not the rightful Lycan king. He’s a fraud. I heard his cousin is the rightful heir to that status. But Isla, I don’t want you to be getting hurt?” Cora sighed and allowed her shoulders to sag down as she sat on the edge of the sofa.

“I know.” I replied.

Her eyes darted to me, and her mouth felt open.

“You knew?”

I nodded.

“Well, I knew that he wasn’t who he said he was, I made him accept my rejection. He fooled me for too long and now I know my identity it kind of makes sense why he used me like he did.” I shook my head and refused to let myself get upset over that worthless ass. I really had believed that he loved me, and I loved him. So much. Now I knew that was all a big fat lie. I smiled to myself when I remembered how I had punched him in the face.

“Isla what are we going to do? Your true mate is out there somewhere, and Max is a complete douche. I can’t believe how he played us all like that, gosh he even had Miller look like a complete idiot.”

“I’m going to make sure he regrets the day he was born.” I said crossly through clenched teeth. Cleo wanted so badly to come forth and destroy everyone who had done us wrong.

My so-called mate and my so-called father.

“Where’s Mora?” Cora suddenly asked and I frowned. I had not seen or heard anything of her either.

“I have no idea.”

Suddenly the door was thrown open and Eric came running in, he grabbed Cora by the wrist causing her to scream in agony.

“Ouch, what are you doing? You’re hurting me, Eric. Let me go.” Cora yelled and tried to yank her arm from his reach, but he was much stronger than her. His eyes looked distant like he wasn’t there.

“Eric.” I called out and he instantly came back to his senses, dropping his grip of Cora and immediately full of guilt.

“Cora, baby. I’m so sorry.” He exclaimed.

“What is going on?” I demanded to know.

“I need you both to safety. The pack is under attack. Come on.” He said and his words paralysed me.

“Under attack?” Cora shrieked and pulled me out the door.

“Isla, come on. We need to get out of here.” Cora urged me but I couldn’t.

The pack was under attack.

I needed to put things right.

“I’m not coming, I need to find out what is happening.”

Eric looked at me as if I were crazy, but I did not care.

Why should I.

Eric threw Cora over his shoulder, and she was screaming at me to save them and do something.

“Get my sister to safety. Now.” I yelled as he rushed off down the hall with her kicking and screaming.

I did not have any time to think straight.

“Isla, there you are.”

Esmeralda rushed towards me with her arms outstretched, shouting with relief as she got closer to me.

“Oh, Isla. Thank goodness you are okay. The pack is under attack. Come with me.” She urged me.

“But wait, Cora remembered everything, I can’t lose her again. We can’t leave them out there, it’s under attack we should help. Shouldn’t we?”

Esmeralda yanked me backwards almost sending me flying over my own 2 feet. “I know she remembered everything, I helped to jog her memory with my magic.” She said much to my surprise.

“Then you can stop this attack?” I shrugged my shoulders and wondered why she did not seem to agree and wanted to get me out of the way.

“We can stop that attack.” I yelled at her angrily.

“Its you they want.” She whispered shoving me into a cupboard and slamming the door shut behind us. “I’m protecting you.”

“From Whom?” I needed to know. “What are you talking about?”

Esmeralda avoided my question by placing a finger against her lips to hush me. Footsteps came and then followed by snarls and whimpers. Esmeralda held her breath and closed her eyes tightly.

Something is happening.

“Who are they?” I needed to know.

Esmeralda did not answer me.

“Take my hand and close your eyes. We are leaving.” She told me quietly.

She took my hand and said some words then I felt my body shaking as I was pulled out and found myself in the middle of a forest. Birds chirping and the sun shining brightly through the beautiful different coloured trees.

“Where am I?” I mumbled.
