Her Rejection, His regret

"Miller wants our help?"

Ch. 37 / 64 Feb 16, 2026

Isla’s POV

I walked in the room to see Max sitting up in the bed, not a mark on him.

He had healed so quickly, and I was so happy about that.

“Hello, my beautiful girl.” he beamed as I threw my arms around him and squealed with happiness. He picked me up and spun me around. He was so handsome and strong; I was so lucky to have him as mine.

“Cora and Miller are here. That so-called father of mine is out there as well.” I scrunched my face up and wished that he would have left us all alone.

Max laughed and ruffled my hair.

“I already know about that. I also hear that Miller wants our help. How do you feel about that?” he raised an eyebrow and cocked his head to the side waiting for my answer.

I shrugged not sure how I really felt. He was my ex-mate and I hated him for how he had treated me in the past but was it time to put that aside and move on with life?

“Go on it's fine. I must speak to the doctor quickly anyway. I will meet you all outside.” Max assured me and I just gave a nod and left the room.

I was so glad that he was ok.

The second I left the room; I spotted Miller with his beta and my sister.

Seeing him standing with my sister and his arm on her like that made me angry.

What was that about?

They soon jumped apart when they spotted me.

“Oh, Isla.” Cora hugged me and I was glad that we were all going to be ok after that horrible crash.

“Don't worry everything will be ok.” Cora smiled and held my hand as we walked out into the fresh air.

“So, what was all that about with Miller?” I whispered to her as we neared the truck. She shrugged her shoulders and pulled a face like she had no idea what I was talking about.

“You and Miller? Seem a little close if you ask me.” I poked her playfully. But deep down I hoped that I was wrong because that would be too weird for me. I was not jealous. I just thought that Cora deserved a respectful mate.

“It's nothing.” Cora held her head up high and told me.

“Ok.” I decided to let it go for now since we had more bigger things to deal with.

I spotted the truck almost immediately and turned to Miller.

“Is he in there?” I pointed to the truck, and he scowled at me, putting a finger to my lips to silence me.

“Keep it down,” he growled.

Cora looked at the truck and gulped nervously.

“I think you should take your hands and your eyes off of my girl, don't you?” Max's voice suddenly sounded from behind us, and I felt an excited shiver run down my spine.

Miller grunted to himself and sulked off leaving me and Max alone for a second.

“He has it bad for you doesn't he.” Max chuckled as he came up behind me, snaked his hands around my back and kissed my cheek.

“I can't stand him, but I have to put up with him for a little while to help.” I said and as I looked up, I saw Miller glaring at us and turned myself around so that I was facing Max. I then proceeded to kiss him passionately.

I did not care if Miller hated to see me happy with Max.

“Ok, come on love birds. We don't have a lot of time.” Cora called out from the open window of the truck, and I almost fell over from laughing so much.

Max scooped me up and carried me to the truck and Cora giggled as she helped me into my seat beside her.

“Come on.” Miller beta hurried us along.

He was worried that my ex-father would wake up, but he wouldn't stand a chance against the lot of us together.

“Look, I don't have to help you. I could just easily kill you and take over the whole of your failing pack, but I am willing to give you a chance and help you.” Max explained and Miller lowered his gaze to his feet unable to look at Max since he did not want him to feel like he was going to challenge him. He knew that Max was his last hope before he totally lost Pembroke.

“Thanks.” Miller mumbled reluctantly and Max just nodded and stroked my hand.

“What is the plan? What if he tries to kill us?” Cora was beginning to panic, and I did not want her to start to cry and get upset all-over again, so I let her rest her head on my shoulder and stroked her hair until she fell asleep.

“We take him down. Simple as that.” Max said and I just stared in silence at the road ahead.

After a little while, we stopped, and Miller got out of the truck with Max to grab some fuel and food supplies since we had not eaten much, and I was starving.

“Let's go.” Miller started to say as he and Max jumped back up and slammed the door shut behind them.

“What's going on?” Cora woke up and rubbed her eyes.

I looked up in the rearview mirror and the colour drained from my face.

A figure appeared at the slightly open window as the truck fired to life again.

“Hello, sis.”

Daniel.

There behind him stood none other than Mora. She was holding the baby in her arms covered in a blanket.

What the hell were they doing here?
