“Mora is being sent back to Pembroke until further notice.”
“What? Why?” I could not believe my ears.
Of course, it was what I had wanted but it was not what I had expected to hear.
“It was either Mora or you and since you are actually my daughter, you should be with me here.” Ed said without even looking my way.
“Isla, I am so sorry for all of this. I had to get out of Pembroke.” My mother said.
“And what if Mora tells everyone that you are in fact really alive, do you not think that they will come here looking for you?” My voice trembled as tears started to fall from my eyes. I did not even bother to wipe them.
“She has been sworn to secrecy. She is currently packing her things and my beta will be escorting her back to Pembroke. Alpha Miller has already been informed.”
There was a knock at the door which caused Ed to curse under his breath.
“Excuse me, I was asked to hand you this.” A feeble voice came as Ed answered the door and took whatever was handed to him. He nodded dismissively to the omega who scurried off in such a hurry.
“What is it?” My mother said sitting up straight in her chair with a bated breath.
We both waited for Ed to answer but he opened the letter and took his time scanning the words on the paper.
I gulped and gripped the edge of the chair hoping that it was not sad news of any sort. I did not know how much more I could take of this.
Max needed to just come back and take me away from all of this, he was the only one that had not hurt or lied to me.
Ed started to mutter something that sounded like no.
I frowned and looked at my mother who was also as confused as me.
“What is it?” She mumbled, getting up to go to him.
“It’s, oh my goddess.” Ed sat down and I could see that he was shaking. That told me it was sad news, something that even I could not guess it to be.
“What is it?” I went to him and took the letter from his hands.
“Isla, please.” He started to say but it was already too late.
I had seen the handwriting. It was Daniel.
He and Mora had done a runner with the baby. They were not planning on coming back and if I knew my brother, he could be anywhere by now.
