Her Rejection, His regret

Leaving

Ch. 33 / 64 Feb 16, 2026

“Check the security.” Ed suddenly came out of his shock and screamed down the phone to whoever had answered on the other end.

My mother looked on as if trying to make sense of it all.

“No. Daniel would never have done such a thing.” she shook her head on denial and glared right at Ed.

I rolled my eyes because she clearly did not know Daniel like she thought that she did.

“Yoi really believe that do you?” I scoffed crossing my arms over my chest.

“Oh, Isla. Stop being a brat. Daniel would not do something like that unless he was provoked. Perhaps if you and Mora had got along much better than things would have been different.” she threw at me and glowrred like i were a massive inconvenience to her life.

“He always was your favourite.” I growled through clenched teeth.

“Well, he is my child after all.” she retorted.

Wow.

At least I now knew what she really did think of me.

I was nothing to her.

She did not care about me and clearly, she never had.

“That is uncalled for. You can not speak to her like that.” Ed piped up.

“Isla, come back,” he called after me, but it was too late because I was already halfway out of the room.

Wow.

I felt like the tears were going to start again.

No.

I am stronger than this.

Much stronger.

I wiped my eyes and ran down the corridor. Of course, I knew this place like the back of my hand so I could move quickly. I doubted that Ed would even bother to come after me. If he did then I wouldn't be stopping. Unwanted nothing more than to be out of here. Being around her was far to toxic for me. She hated me and it was clear to me now. I was much more better off without that type of negativity weighing me down.

Max came up the pathway with a bunch of flowers in his hand and a huge smile on his face.

The minute that he saw me his face fell.

“What has happened?” he rushed to me, wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me right into him. I inhaled his beautiful scent and savoured the taste of his lips against my own.

“Daniel and Mora have disappeared with the baby. Ed is going crazy, and my mother is in a state of denial. Oh, and she also made it clear that I am not her child.” I explained with an exasperated sigh. I was so tired of all this. Why could life not be easy on me?

Did I not deserve to have any happiness?

Max was the only one that had not hurt me, and I prayed so hard that he never would because I honestly did not know how much more I could take.

“Isla, I am so sorry that you have had to go through all this trouble. You don't deserve to be treated so poorly and it truly saddens me that I had not found you sooner in my life. Rest assured that nobody and I means nobody, will ever hurt you again.” he promised, and I nodded, believing every ounce of his words. He made me feel so safe, and content. Just being next to him calmed me from deep within my soul.

He gently kissed the top of my forehead and then I felt his arm grip me tightly and a low growl sound from him. Feeling suddenly afraid and confused by the change in his behaviour towards me, I felt I had no choice but to just run away. But then I looked up and saw her.

My so-called mother.

And Ed.

They were walking towards us.

Max was angry at the sight of them, he thought that they were going to harm me or upset me again.

He was protecting me.

“My mate is leaving this shit show.” Max roared so furiously, and he instantly caused a few pack members to cower and some to run for cover.

“No. I am so sorry. Please don't go.” my mother pleaded and fell down to her knees. My eyes widened in disbelief as I watched her, placing her hands together in a praying motion.

She must think that I was stupid.

“No. I do not want to be here a moment longer.” I buried my face into his neck and shook my head childishly. I was not going to succumb to her empty promises and crocodile tears.

“Do you wish to challenge by me, the lycan king?” Max thundered.

Ed held his hand up as if surrendering and shook his head.

“Absolutely not but in all honesty, I would like my daughter to know that she will of course always be welcome here.” Ed said loudly enough for me to hear.

“Thar decision is my mates.” Max made that clear.

“I can’t be here while she is here. She made it clear how she felt about me, and I can’t be around her anymore.” I found myself saying and dared to look at her when I spoke those words.

She looked horrified but I did not let that put me off.

“Goodbye Ed.” I turned my back as I walked away hand in hand with Max to his car.

Enough was enough and I could not spend another moment where I was not wanted by the one, I had always believed to be my own mother.

“Let’s go. We are getting out of here.” He whispered in my ear, and I nodded with a smile.

He opened the door for me and held it as I slipped inside the car.

I could not believe how clean and tidy it was for a male car. He certainly looked after it.

Just as he was about to close the door, I heard someone yelling my name.

“Isla. Wait. Don't go just yet please.”

Cora.
