Her Rejection, His regret

Miller and Cora

Ch. 63 / 64 Feb 16, 2026

Miller’s POV

It has been a day since me and Cora arrived back at Pembroke.

I was seriously considering stepping down as the alpha but later this afternoon, the elders would arrive to discuss what they felt would be best in going forward for Pembroke.

It was extremely strange to be back here at Pembroke.

I had no heir and no Luna.

What could I even offer any one anymore?

Isla did not want me, and my chosen mate had turned out to be nothing more than a stupid foolish user who had met her death.

Not that I could blame Isla for killing her.

I was sitting by the lake dipping my toes into the water and listening to the sound of the birds chirping in the sky when I heard a ruslte of leaves and twigs breaking from somewhere close behind me.

Then I heard a slight growl and a whimper of fear which made my heart sink a little:

Why did that whimper sound just like Cora?

What was she doing out here?

It was barely even six am and I would usually be out running alone before the day started properly. I had needed that time for myself since everything had happened so fast and I could barely think straight. The run has made me feel a lot better, like my head was suddenly clearer.

Isla was happy going back to the coven with her real mother and meeting all her other family members.

I finally realised that we had had to go down these paths to get where we were at now.

She deserved to be happy and that was all that really mattered.

But Cora?

She had come back with me.

And now she was out in the forest and a horrible feeling of dread washed over me.

Had she followed me out here?

The disgusting smell of rogues then hit me, and I growled as my Wolf came forward and shifted, running in the direction of the scent I soon came to find out that, indeed, it was Cora, and a filthy, disgusting rogue.

He had her pinned up against a massive old oak tree. The look of fear on her face sent me into a wave of crazy. Nobody was going to get away with hurting Cora.

How dare this rogue feel he had a right to touch her.

Leaping into the air and letting out a loud crowd of fury, and landed on his back, digging my long claws into his back, causing him to immediately loosen his grip on Cora, while screaming out in agony. I did not stop there.

I just saw red.

Not wanting Cora to get scared anymore than what she was. How dare this foolish idiot think that he could come freely onto this land and try to attack a female.

He would die for that.

I will protect Cora to the end of the Earth.

Sink in my canines into him, I watched with delight as blood poured from him, and his eyes turned lifeless. His body fell to the ground dead.

Once I was satisfied that the coast was clear, and Cora was safe, I shifted back to my human form. I did not care that I was naked. I pulled Cora into my Arms and hugged her so tight to my chest. I stroked her hair and she wept.

“Everything is okay now you’re safe, but what an earth do you think you are doing out here at this time, and on your own?” I questioned her.

“Oh, Miller! I am so sorry, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I saw you sneak out of the pack house, and I was worried that you weren’t coming back.”

I was stunned by her words.

“Why would I not come back?” I was confused by her words.

“Well,” she started to say. Avoiding looking at me she kept her eyes on the ground and shifted nervously from one leg to the other.

“Tell me.” I said, leaning over and stroking her face.

The next thing I know I’m looking into her eyes and realising just how beautiful this girl really truly is.

“I just don’t want to lose anyone else.” She whispered sadly and I felt my heart shatter into a thousand pieces. I traced her lips with my index finger and placed a finger under her chin, lifting her face so our eyes would meet.

Finally, she looked back at me and suddenly our lips brushed against each other, and she’s reached for my hand.

Gripping her fingers into mine and pulling me closer to her like she’s afraid to let me go. I gently push her hair from her face and it’s like I’m looking at her for the very first time.

“Kiss me, Miller. Just please kiss me.” She begged and I did as she asked. It felt so right.

My whole body trembled with excitement as I held her close to me, I could feel her heart pounding and she snaked her hands around my waist then placing them slightly up my back.

Neither of us wanted to let go of the other.

My Wolf whimpered happily in the back of my mind, and I swear I heard him whisper the word.

“Mate!”

Cora was our second chance mate.

How could I not have known about this?

“Cora, we are mates?” I said hardly believing the words from my own mouth.

She nodded shyly before handing me a pair of shorts from her bag.

I grabbed them and quickly dressed not taking my eyes off her.

“Do you want to be mates?” I asked her abruptly.

She nodded and looked back at me.

She was certain.

I held my hands out to her and we made our way back to the pack house.
