It felt like an eternity before I could put into words what was going around in my head.
Seeing Cora had thrown me off balance.
"Isla, we don't have to leave just yet. It is OK, you can go and see your sister." Max insisted and I gave him a small smile to show my appreciation. He was so caring and patient with me.
"How could you?" She yelled, pushing right through and eyes blazing. I opened my mouth and frowned in confusion, but then it dawned on me that she was referring to our mother.
That made my mind up for me, there was absolutely no way that I could leave her here to face all that backlash.
"No." I jumped out of the car and just managed to grab her hand and pull her back.
"Come with us, we will talk things over." I insisted and did not give her any choice.
"Fine." Cora grunted and then huffily got into the back of Max's car.
"Grls. wait. Come back, please."
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. I have no words for her anymore. I had to get Cora out of there before she made thugs even worse.
After almost a half an hour of driving, we were finally there.
Glancing over my shoulder i saw that Cora had fallen asleep while Max was tapping the steering wheel humming along to the radio. I could not help but smile at the sight of them both.
I didn't see the headlights until it was too late.
Bang!
The car spun around several times, and I hit my head as I screamed with pain. Tasting the blood before I felt it, that is when I knew that it was bad.
Max remained completely still beside me.
All i heard was screams.
Then i realized that those screams were mine.
"Isla. Get out now. NOW!" the door was wrenched open, and I was met with those horribly familiar eyes that belonged to the male I had grown up to believe was none other than my own father.
"What happened? Why are you here?" I mumbled and reached over for Max, hoping that he would wake up any second.
"He is dead, don't even bother." He hissed at me cruelly and yanked me from the wrecked car.
"No, no, let me go. Please." I begged and tried with all my might and strength to free myself from his grip, but that only caused him to dig his claws into me.
I was already numb.
"Where are you taking me?" I exclaimed as he dragged me into the car and slammed the door shut behind us.
"Back where you belong. Alpha Miller is your true mate, and you need to help fix Pembroke. You will not be mated to that daft lycan king, he can have someone much better than a scummy bitch like you. How could I ever have let that whore fool me into thinking that you were my own flesh and blood. I would be ashamed to call you, my child." he spat, looking at me with such disgust that it stabbed at my heart. I felt sick and wanted to pretend that this was all a dream,
Except it wasn't a dream.
"Please, let me get them out. They need me. Please." I pleaded, not even caring that the tears were streaming down my face.
"What do you mean, them? It was only you and Max in that damn car, wasn't it?" he growled.
"Cora, she was in the back of the car."
