"Forgetting your mum because of a man huh." Scar smiled, clicking his tongue, "That is so not nice." He continued, eliciting a small smile on my face that quickly disappeared thanks to the situation I was currently in.
I rolled my eyes refusing to give in to his his tease, "I am so not in the mood Scar." I sighed, searching my bag for my phone.
Scar chuckled in reply almost making me smile again.
There was just something about him when he was happy and free that made me want to be overjoyed with him no matter what the situation was.
But this time the problem was my mum. I didn't want to get into her black books ever, most of all today which was a day after she had trusted me enough to let me stay in the hospital alone.
It was not just because I was scared of her scolding me but I didn't want her to disapprove of Scar more than she already did. I loved my mum and I didn't want to go against her unless it was absolutely necessary.
I frowned and eyed Scar as he checked me out so subtly with a devilish smile on his face.
"Seriously Scar stop staring at me like that." I huffed, desperately dialing my mums number.
Thankfully it rang. I pressed the phone to my ears lightly, impatiently tapping my legs on the hard concrete floor.
Every second that passed made me more afraid. I couldn't even breathe.
What if she had come to see me and was told that I ran away with Scar like a kid or worse still what if she was attacked by Lisa again?
My mum picked on the third ring, thankfully before I fainted from panic.
"Mummy Good morning. Aare you ok? Where are you? Are you in the hospital?" I asked in a rush.
"I'm here at Lisa's house." She answered, there was a slight edge in her voice.
Her voice was cracked, she sounded like she had been shouting for a very long time. She was clearly enraged.
"Mum what are you doing at aunt Lisa's house?" I asked, voicing out my worry.
"I came to see her, but she locked me outside the gate!" She replied, her voice increasing a notch.
"Do you know what she did? She is planning to leave town and called to threaten me about it. She threatened me."
I looked at Scar and he already knew what I was thinking.
"I am going to kill her." My mum raged. I heard a beeping sound signalling that she had hung up.
"We need to go immediately," Scar said to me almost as if he could read my thoughts.
He put his arms around me in a warm embrace. "It will be OK." he whispered, cuddling me into his firm chest.
He had been the one shot, the one always defending me, the one who always ended up hurt, the one without a family, the one with nobody but still he was the one comforting me. Without him trying to, without him knowing it, he was becoming my inspiration, my muse. My everything.
Scar flagged a tricycle that passed, and I gave the driver the direction to aunt Lisa's house.
We hopped into the back seat eager to be there already.
I wanted to show Lisa the stuff I was made off.
She was just about to find out that I was not longer the little girl who looked up to her and was deceived by her fake smiles. Now, I was going to show her that nothing was permanent especially not power.
The driver kept looking at us through his side mirror, especially at Scar.
I could tell that he was scared of him and judged him silently but I didn't blame him though.
That's what people do, people judge you even without knowing you. I had not been any different either so I had no moral justification to chastise anybody.
Ignoring the drivers curious annoying glare on us, I rested my head on Scar's shoulder while he played with my fingers.
He succeeded in calming me down even before we drove out of the express.
He was my drug. The kind that soothes and sets you aflame depending on when you take it.
It took us about twenty minutes of comfortable silence to get to Aunt Lisa's house.
When we arrived at her gate I got down and rushed to my mum leaving Scar to pay for the ride.
"Mum!" I called. She turned to me, her eyes blood red. I tried to hug her, but she stopped me from doing so with a hand gesture.
"Mira, make her open the gate!" She said angrily. Her expression was blank, but angry if that was even possible. She looked like she was sent on a life or death mission.
"Have you called her?" I asked my mum, rubbing her shoulder soothingly. This time she let me touch her.
"She won't answer my call!" My mum snapped. She shoved my hands from her shoulder and started pacing.
I took out my phone from my pocket and dialed aunt Lisa's number with my second sim, she didn't have this number so I guessed she would pick.
Just like I had predicted she picked on the first ring but tried to hang up when she heard my voice.
I quickly stopped her. "Hey! The thugs you hired have all confessed. If you Don't let us in, then sooner than you expect you will be letting the police in instead."
"I'm giving you thirty seconds to open this Gate and nothing more. Anything more than that and you can kiss your home and your family goodbye. Prison will sooth you perfectly." I added for effect.
She said nothing till I finished speaking but I could hear her breathing change and become almost ragged.
"Mum! She will open the gate now!" I assured my mum making sure to remain by her side no matter how scared her being so furious made me.
She simply nodded. Her eyes remained focussed on the tall black gate like a hawk in pursuit for food.
Scar was at my side now holding me. He was giving me back the support I was giving to my mum and I couldn't be more grateful for it.
Few seconds later, the gateman opened the gate to reveal Lisa's huge bungalow.
The last time I had been here, I was almost raped and destroyed and I had left without getting any proper justice. Now that I was here again I couldn't help but smile at the rush of power in my veins knowing that I was no longer that naive little twelve year old.
