The hallway on the second floor was eerie, empty and quiet, a contrast to the rest of the hospital.
It was as though other patients dreaded, or were instructed never to come up here and you had to have some kind of relationship with the doctor or the hospital to be here or you happen to be stinkingly rich.
Scar was none of these, yet he was taken up here and I wondered why? Maybe they thought that we had money or it was a police thing.
Or was this the only emergency unit in the hospital? I could go check it out but for now I had to see Scar.
Shifting my curiosity aside to the back of my brain I walked up to the doctor who was talking to a short, plump nurse with white skin obviously from bleaching.
"He's in Ward 6 attend to him now." I heard the doctor say to her before she walked away not sparing me a glance.
"I see that you were able to convince your mother to let you stay here." The doctor said turning to face me now.
"Well she understands me. Where is he please?" I asked not wanting to beat around the bush. I wanted to see Scar immediately.
"Straight to the point." He said with a sly smile playing on his lips. I maintained a blank expression not having it in me to play interested.
"Follow me." He added as he turned on his heels with me by his side.
We walked a couple of feet until we were at the end of the hallway. There was a huge double door just there and he pushed it open to reveal a huge room bigger than my entire house.
Scar was on a King sized bed draped with blue bedsheets and there was a black couch by his side.
There were red sofas arranged in a circular form at the other end of the room with a huge plasma TV and varied sculptures. The room was decorated with land scape drawings placed delicately on the white wall.
I walked in and went straight to the bed.
I took Scar's hand in mine the one free of the dangling drip connected to the high wooden comforter.
"Scar.. Baby." I whispered softly, swallowing the lump in my throat.
The doctor walked in just then, "What did you just call him?" He asked startling me. I looked up to meet his inquisitive gaze on me.
"Scar."
He seemed surprised at first but his countenance quickly changed. "You will find everything that you need here and you would be safe. Try not to wake him up. He needs his rest and I cannot emphasize on this enough." He said as he turned to leave.
"Doctor." I called stopping him on his tracks. "Please continue to give him the best there is. Bills will be covered."
He smiled. "They already are." He said as he walked out before I could ask what he meant by his words.
I shook my head and looked back at Scar who looked powerful even asleep. When did he not look like he had the whole world in his hands?
I exhaled wanting to just lie with him but I didn't want my mom to see us like that.
As if on cue someone knocked and my mum walked in.
My heart jumped in my mouth and I felt lucky that I hadn't even sat down on the bed.
I let go of Scars hands and rested mine besides me. The last thing I needed now was my mom scolding or suspecting me for indiscipline.
She walked in with a huge bag looking every bit exhausted.
She was still on the gown she wore earlier telling me that she had quickly rushed back to see if I was fine.
She walked in and stood by my side. "How is he?" She asked, rubbing my back soothingly. We both watched Scar breathe softly, I enchanted with him and my mum worried about me.
"He's fine I guess." I replied after a while.
We turned back to sit on the couch our legs paying heed to exhaustion.
"Are you sure you don't want to come home with me. I could bring you back here first thing in the early morning..."
"Mum I won't be able to sleep at home and I would feel guilty all my life if I leave him alone. Please understand." I said with a pleading eyes and voice.
My mum sighed and handed to me my small black traveling handbag that was big enough to contain some few clothes of mine.
"I have to go home to your brothers. They were crying before I got home and I don't want them to start crying again." She paused, biting her lips as if to keep from saying something.
I prayed she didn't say what it was she wanted to say for I really wanted to be with Scar.
"The doctor has assured me that he would look after you." She said after a while breaking the tensed silence that had suddenly ensued between us.
I nodded and hugged her gently."I will be fine and as soon as Scar awakens tomorrow morning I would call you."
"I'm only doing this because he saved us but if anything.."
"Nothing will happen to me mum." I assured her.
She exhaled and stood up.
I joined her walking her to the door.
"Call me if anything looks suspicious." She warned.
I chuckled at how serious she looked, "I will."
I waved her off and gently closed the door behind me.
Finally alone with Scar I walked over to his bed and laid on the empty side.
Exhaustion caught up with me soon enough and I rested my head on his chest as my eyes struggled to keep awake.
I loved everything about this moment. The sheer peace of it. The tranquility, the silence. It was perfect, just me and him.
"You are mine today and forever and I would never leave your side as you have remained by mine." I mumbled.
I kissed his chest from underneath his blue gown as my eyes finally gave in to sleep.
