My mum finally got the courage to stand up from the tiled cold floor.
The look on her face could only be described in two words, fear and surprise.
She moved around the table so that she was standing behind my seat.
Her hands gently rubbed my shoulders in a bid to either calm me down or to reassure herself that I was OK.
"Mira are you OK?" She whispered, soberly.
"Yes mum." I choked out.
I was anything but OK though. Seeing Scar like this; dangerous, bloodthirsty and full of rage awakened something in me, something dark and dangerous just like him.
Then there was a doubt. Did I really not know the man I loved? I had accepted that he was a stranger to me but was I ready to accept that I had no knowledge of who he was whatsoever?
He was scary today, emitting a kind of aura that was powerful. This side of him was different as if he had not expected this. As though he was not prepared for what he saw and that made him a combustive strength.
My mum circled the chair so she could stand right in front of me. Then she smoothened her long straight gown and wiped her face with her palm.
Her hands found my cheek and she smiled. It was a smile that reached her eyes. I was shocked because she was supposed to be the weak one and I the strong one, the pillar. But now that I looked at her I couldn't help but admire her strength.
I knew she was strong, she had to be strong to bear all that my father had done to her all of these years, and her friendship with aunt Lisa, but I didn't think she was this strong.
Then it hit me that those two weakened her resolve and now that they were gone she could be herself. I prayed again that my father never ever came back.
At least my mum was doing well without him. My fear was that if he heard about our sudden progress he would come back and my mum would take him in again. I didn't want that. Hopefully things won't end up like that.
Scar looked back at us with worry etched on his face. His question still lingered in the air like smoke, choking and killing.
The leader saw his desire to check on me as a distraction.
He rushed towards Scar in an attempt to take the gun away from him, but scar was alert even when distracted. He kneeled the man on his stomach and used the head of the gun to hit him on the head, causing him to fall down limping down the floor.
Scar walked over to him, more angry than he was before. He grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him up.
The leader yelled in pain as droplets of blood stained his black mask and shirt given them an almost dark purple color.
Scar looked at him menacingly "Don't you ever do that again, ever!" He spat, laying emphasis on the word ever. The man nodded frantically.
"I hate to ask Questions twice, who sent you?!" Scar snarled.
The leader looked at him wide eyed. His lips moved but no words came out.
I had the urge to interrupt this questioning for I already knew who sent him so there was no need for this. But I wanted him to say it and I wanted my mum to hear it.
Sometimes I noticed how guilty she felt for what I had done to Lisa, but I knew Lisa deserved every bit of it and more, but my mum didn't know. So I wanted to prove it to her.
I slowly stood up from my seat as adrenaline coerced through my veins. I wanted so much to stand by Scar's side but I stayed at an arms.
I knew it was what was best for the both of us especially for him.
I was a distraction to him and everyone was starting to know that when it came to him I was his only weakness as he was mine.
