"I don't understand you, we both agreed on twenty million why the sudden increase in the price?" My mum asked, disappointment laced in her voice.
"What I've been trying to say is that I have more buyers now, and I need to sell to the highest bidder!" Lucky's angry voice completely pulled me out of my thoughts this time.
"But Mr Lucky you...." my mum's voice trailed of sounding unsure.
"This is business ma and so I have to put sentiments aside. You either increase the price to the amount on the paper or I sell to another person." Mr Lucky insisted.
I could already tell that he wasn't going to change his mind by how cunny his expression looked.
He took back the documents on the table and started stashing them back into his drawer. He locked it up and put the key in his pocket.
My mum was right. He was indeed full of shit.
"Oh please... I've had enough." I scoffed, feeling as though my blood was boiling.
My heart raced in anger taking a swing at my mind.
"Excuse me miss!" Lucky scowled, surprised at my sudden outburst.
He was staring at me with so much rage, but his anger didn't move me.
"Excuse yourself! We both know that there are no other buyers alright! If they are call them, let them come over so we can discuss this. It is an auction you want right? good. Then call all the buyers now so we can know who the highest bidder is." I tapped my fingers on his desk as I spoke.
It helped in calming me down and my voice sounded milder than I had expected it. I loved how unbothered it made me look.
I knew the man was lying, he won't call any other buyers because their were none others who could afford the price he was calling for an event centre in a location as his.
The fact that my mom saw any potential in it still amazed me even now. But she knew better than I did.
"I am talking to your mum not you! you spoilt brat!" Mr Lucky snarled.
His eyes were filled with so much anger and deceit.
I smiled, leaning forward, "Well I am my mums manager, so you are indirectly talking to me. I don't get why you are bothered with my suggestion, it seems to me like a fair deal."
"You disrespectful child!" he yelled. He is going to use the respect card. Did I hear correctly. "Woman control your daughter!"
"Mira it is OK.. Maybe..." Her voice trailed off when she met my feisty eyes. Besides I didn't really think she wanted to really remedy the situation
I hated it when someone tried to play on a persons weakness more so if the person they were trying to play was my mum.
"This guy is Lying through his nose." I chuckled, a low humourless bitter sound escaping my lips.
"You dare to call me a liar!" Mr Lucky shouted, rising from his sit.
I remained sited. He wasn't going to intimidate me if that's what he was trying to do by standing up.
Does he ever look at himself in the mirror, he looked like a joke. Short, huge with a small face and small eyes. His suit was even too small for him and who wears a black suit with green trousers? I had been threatened by worse.
"I didn't call you an honest man did I?" I replied, staring back at him.
If looks could kill either of us, or both of us would have dropped dead.
"Mrs Amelia how did you bring up your child. You clearly did not raise her up well."
"Different from the way your mum brought you up obviously considering all your lies. Could never be me." I retorted, shutting him up.
"Mira!" my mum warned, turning to face me with mirth.
My legs and hands were practically shaking in anger as my eyes refused to pill itself away from Mr Lucky's bulky frame.
"Mum if he wants respect he should earn it! you agreed to something before now, Didn't you? We came here not to agree on the price but to sign the papers and leave. Then he starts giving us some bullshit about how their are other buyers. Who does that? What kind of business man agrees to a deal then changes the agreement at the last minute all for money?!" I took in deep breaths to calm my nerves.
"He is so unprofessional!" I cussed.
Maybe I was transferring my aggression from Scar to the man standing in front of me or maybe I just didn't have patience to deal with broken promise anymore.
Either ways I knew that my outrage stemmed from something deeper than the events of today, but I just did not care!
My mum equally turned to face him now. "You know what Mr Lucky, my daughter is right sir. We already agreed on the prize, I have the paper right here, the one we signed before today. I thought this meeting was only to sign the ownership..."
"Agreements change!" He yelled.
"Mum let's leave before I'm forced to say any more." I pushed my chair backwards and stood up.
"We can get another event center trust me on this. If he isn't ready to sell it to us, let him sell it to one of his invisible buyers."
I nudged my mum on the shoulder forcing her to stand too.
She got up quickly, her eyes still set on Mr Lucky. "I'm disappointed in you sir, I thought you were an honest businessman. I guess I was wrong." She shook her head and we turned to leave.
I walked slowly to the door because I had the feeling that he would call us back.
Truthfully, I wanted this deal to work. My mum really liked the place. She saw great potentials in it and I really wanted her to live out her dreams.
Lucky stood still behind his chair probably surprised that his plans didn't work as he thought it would.
I was about to open the door...
"Wait..." Mr lucky yelled, his voice trailed off. His pride sucked away.
I smiled and looked back. From the corner of my eyes I saw my mum smiling too.
My way always worked because that's the way of the world. Always Meet a manipulator with your own manipulation.
