Chapter 48

Ch. 48 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I turned to Charles, "Take care of my mother. I always wanna see her smiling." I told him. I really want Dastien with me, so he could understand how serious I'm about my words.

He slightly bowed his head. My mother and I chuckled. Ava rolled her eyes. Luke grimaced but didn't spoil the happy moment, "Till the end of my last breath." He said.

"You don't need to do this," I told him.

Before he could reply, Ava embraced him, "Can I call you, Dad?" Her voice was a loud squeal to my ears.

My eyes turned slightly big in shock but I covered it instantly. Jasper nudged my shoulder, beckoning at the door. Thanks to him, for understanding my discomfort.

I nodded. My gaze landed on Luke. His gaze was cold on me. He passed in front of me cutting my path, "You're a spoiler." He spoke, leaning toward my ear so only I could hear him.

I was shocked, not because of his crude words. Something else perplexed me. I heard him easily but others couldn't. Impossible!

I scurried behind Jasper, "Did you hear him?" I asked.

He spun to me with a slight furrow over his forehead, "Heard? What?"

"Luke?" I asked.

"No? Did he...?" With the shake of my head, I cut him off. I didn't have time for his rudeness.

"I'm feeling strange. Two good things happened today. My mother got her soulmate. And you're my brother." I muttered. It was a relief.

He smiled, nodding. "We can go to the doctor," He said

"No," I twirled, hearing the rustling of dried leaves.

"Emma," My mother stood in the doorway, glancing at me in a strange way.

'I don't wanna face her, anything. I have discovered a lot of things in the past few days. My parents are werewolves. I don't know who my father is. He's some kind of ass hole Alpha who ditched my mother and took my mother's son, our brother with him. My mother is going to wed. I can't shift. My sister seems alright with everything. Luke hates me. '

I heaved a deep sigh, "Mom, I'm going out with Jasper." I told her.

"Ready for the club," Luke mused toying with the car keys.

"Hell! Yeah!" Ava sang, gladly.

Mom's blazing gaze turned to her, "Ava, your language,"

"Oops! Sorry, mom." Ava wrapped her arms around her.

"Emma isn't a regular visitor." Mom started.

"I'd take care of your big girl, mom." Ava rolled her eyes.

It reminded me of Silver. But there was a huge difference. Ava did this with ego, holding ego. Silver did this with innocence and a smile. Ava has changed a lot, reminding me of Samantha.

Mom nodded with a smile, she turned her gaze at me, before walking in the home.

"You're not coming with us," Luke stared at me.

"Luke," Jasper's gaze turned cold on him.

"Brother is right. She's a spoiler." Ava shrugged her shoulders, folding her arms under her chest.

"What the heck did you say?" I snapped, glaring at them. I had done with their ill-mannered talk.

"You're nothing without your friends. Just a weak human." Luke smirked.

Ava laughed, "Yes, Dastien left you. He must be with Samantha." She mocked me, laughing loudly.

Before hurt feelings, I felt anger, my hand shot in the air and I cuffed her. Her eyes widened and were replaced with anger immediately. Her gaze flashed dark.

Jasper came to my side, immediately.

"How dare you!" Luke stepped toward me with an angry expression, defending her. He took another step closer to me. Another step and his body flung in the air, his back hit the tree's trunk twenty feet away.

Ava gasped and rushed to help him.

I glanced at him with a shocked expression, "What have I done?" I asked, my big eyes turned to Jasper. He leaned against the hood of his latest black SUV and he was smirking looking at them, "Why are you laughing? Did I hurt him? We should call the ambulance." I said.

"His healing powers would help him," Jasper smirked.

With a quick stride, I was in front of him, blocking his view, "Did you do this?" I asked.

"Magic?" He arched his brows, "I'm not fae or witch. I tear bad people apart." he said with a slight shake of his head. His gaze turned to them. "They have earned it."

My heart began to pound. There could be only one person, "Dastien," I breathed in, I felt more alive saying his name.

He shook his head with a sad smile and tilted his head at the left side, motioning. I followed shifting on my feet, "Burt!" I squealed, happily.

He smiled. It wasn't scary and left a scowl behind his face. He bowed his head.

He must have sensed the danger around me. I wasn't upset about this. My step brother deserved this, including my sister, "How are you, Queen?" He asked.

"I must say you're a good learner." He was wearing usual clothes like teenage boys. His nose and ears were still pointed, but blending in with his get up.

"Thank you, Queen," He bowed his head again.

"What's this creature?" Ava asked, looking at Burt. She was holding Luke's arm but I wasn't certain. Was she supporting him or taking support from him?

I turned to Jasper, ignoring her, "Be a good brother and take me out," I said to him.

"Get in the car," He pushed himself straight and walked around the car.

I rushed to the passenger seat and opened the door, "Thank you, you don't need to do this." I got in the passenger seat.

"Get in the car, Burt." He said, walking around.

Burt got in the back seat with a smile.

He must have told them before going. There's no way he could stand aside when they were going to hurt me. It hurts to say it. She's my sister, but a changed personality now.

"Are we going to the academy?" I asked.

The engine roared, vibrating my body, "We worked on it," He ran his hand on the dashboard as if it was a baby. His baby.

I giggled, "Alphas?" I asked. Then something clicked, "Have Alessandro designed Silver's car, too?" I knew the answer,

He nodded, "On her last birthday,"

I rubbed my hands together happily, "You guys are so cool. Will you invite me when you design your next car?" I asked.

"Edward is planning to give a car to Betty." He revealed a secret, "You're not supposed to tell them." He added, instantly.

"Alright," I placed my index finger over my lips, promising him.

My shoulders sagged in relief that I was going to see my friends. I liked my mother. I had no problem with Charles. They like each other and I'm happy for them. I didn't wanna comment on Luke and Ava.

Jasper glanced at me and sniffed the air. He grew more aware of the upset scent in the air.

I rolled my eyes. No matter what, I tried to mask my feelings. They're going to smell my moods, "Can you act human around me?" I asked, letting out an exasperated huff.

I could see the portal ahead of the car. I waited for him to pull over the car

"You're accepting everything graciously." He muttered, giving me a smile.

I lifted my hand and patted on his shoulder, "You're a good brother. I'm lucky to have you." I smiled.

He chuckled at my move and with a slight shake of his head, he pulled over the car in the parking lot, "I'll see you later," He said.

I nodded. Silver and Elizabeth smiled at my sight and walked over to the car. I opened the door and jumped out. I curled my arms around them, "Lord! I missed you." That was true.

Silver chuckled along with Elizabeth, "I missed you. We have ordered your favourite food." Elizabeth tugged me toward the cafeteria. I glanced over my shoulder. I couldn't eat back at home. I was happy for my mother but I wasn't ready to have a father figure in my life. I could hope no one would force me to address him. Father.

We settled down at our usual place. I relaxed being around a familiar atmosphere. A smile tugged over my face recalling him.

"How are things?" Silver asked, I felt my friends' worried and curious gazes on me.

"I'm from a werewolf family and I can't shift. I don't know. Should I be happy or sad but deep down it bothered me that I can't shift. My sister is acting like she's copy of Samantha. Luke, my step brother! Doesn't like me. My mother and her-to-be husband looked at me with hopeful eyes. I don't know how to find him." I breathed deeply. It feels good to talk to them, finally.

They exchanged a look and then their worried gaze fell on me.

Rhett placed our plates of creamy pasta in front of me, "Thank you," I smiled up at him.

He bowed his head slightly and turned back to the kitchen.

"You're definitely happy for your mother." Silver said.

"No doubt. I just don't want a father figure in my life," I muttered.

"We should eat then you're helping us find the right book," Elizabeth said.

"Hm," I slid the plate closer to me.
