When I opened my eyes. I was alone in the room. I lifted my hand to touch my cheek. I felt the salve on my cheek. I pushed myself up and looked around for a mirror.
It wasn't fair. I pushed the comforter away and quickened my feet at the full-length mirror.
All the blood drained from my face. My eyes bulged out of their sockets, "No!" I stumbled back and fell on my arse, staring at my reflection in the mirror in awe. My pulse thudded in my ears in time with my clattering heart.
"Impossible! It can't be." I stared at myself in shock. I blinked and blinked, nothing changed.
"Queen Emersyn," My gaze turned to the door.
Aubrette walked over to me and helped me to my feet holding me by the shoulders, "Your scars have healed. Wait," She said and drifted toward the side table.
She grasped the muslin cloth from the tray and returned to me.
It wasn't the fear of getting a scar that had shocked me, the sight made my heart run in my chest in fear.
She began to wipe the salve from my cheeks. I couldn't look away from the mirror. After a full five minutes, she smiled at me and took a step aside, "Sleeping heals our body." She said.
"I'm not bothered about my skin. What happened to my eyes? They're notanymore." I asked as Panic lanced through my heart. I sucked a breath through my teeth and stepped forward, glancing at my eyeballs, they're like fire-burning eyes. I hoisted my hand up and brushed my finger over the reflection on my eyes. I loved my grey eyes though I had hated the colour as it always reminded me of my father. You would know the value after losing them.
I glanced back at her. She was dressed in another green gown, with golden jewellery, her crown. Her black hair glistened like a royal black color. Her eyes were on me, only me, "You were a powerful queen." She said with a smile.
You were! Not You are/will!
I shrugged not understanding her talk, "I'm not a queen. But not everyone will believe the lie." I took one more look at my eyes before turning away. I sat on the edge of the mattress with a sigh.
She sat next to me and brushed her finger on my cheek softly, "Your skin is so beautiful," She muttered.
"Thanks for your help, Queen Aubrette, Salve worked," I said. It felt for a second we were old friends.
" I'm not queen yet." She said with a sad smile.
"You will be soon, " I told her.
She nodded with a smile, "I'm glad I could help you. It was nothing in comparison to what you did to me," She said, her smile made her more attractive. Beauty could be a weapon, too.
Confusion exploded through my insides, "Mostly, I don't understand what you say." I said. I could see my reflection. It was hard for me to look away from my eyes.
The burning fire was enclosed by a pitch-black ring, "You made Queen Elizabeth take the oath." She said.
Neither I nor Elizabeth was interested in this title. I turned my gaze at her, "You love him." I smiled.
"Yes, he has asked his mother to talk to my parents." She blushed and cast her head low.
"You're perfect for him," I muttered.
"You think so," Her confidence seemed shaken.
"The most powerful thing in this world, in this universe, is Love," I told her.
She looked into my eyes. Nodding, she pushed herself to her feet. I tried to look at her feet and found her without heels. She was very tall. Taller than me.
"You're gaining your powers." She said.
My confused gaze turned to her face, "I've told you. I'm not a queen." I told her again.
"For now, only to push away this frown from your forehead." She wiped her finger over my forehead, making me flinch, "I can agree with you. Just for now,"
"Thanks," I said, looking away.
"You're lucky. Your mate came this far, only for you." She said.
I blinked at her, "Can you see the Dark Realm?" I asked, shooting on my feet.
"I can," She smiled and looked up, her eyes shone the brightest green color, "He's worried about you. Your eyes..." She choked and looked at me again, her eyes were full of tears. When she blinked. Two tears rolled down and dropped.
Before they could touch the ground she caught them in her palm. My lips parted in astonishment. When two small plants begot from her teardrops.
She brushed her hand over them and they disappeared.
"Why are you crying?" I asked her, astounding. She must be happy. She was gonna wed the person she loved. I couldn't even see him.
"You lost your eyes." She said.
I stumbled back. She held me by the arm, "What do you mean?" I asked, frightened.
"You'll get your grey color back but this is your permanent eyes now. A gift from your mate." She said.
My lower lip began to tremble, "Can he do that?" A soft sob left my throat. My chin began to tremble with my lips too.
"Yes, he could do anything for you." She said.
I tilted my chin up, "Then, why do he leave me?" I asked. I knew I wasn't getting any reply.
"You'll meet him soon." She said with a warm smile.
I nodded, sitting down as my legs couldn't take my weight.
"I should go." She left the room suddenly.
I was dreading that if I cried. There'd be magma instead of tears. A spasm of fear sharpened my senses. I heard faint footsteps. When my gaze lifted to the door, Elizabeth and Silver walked in.
"We're ready to go home, Em?" Silver said, her icy blue eyes studying me.
"He must have said something," I asked them. Time stilled for a second in waiting.
"It's not the right place to talk. Mom is waiting." She said.
After a second of thinking, I got on my feet. I had nothing to carry with me.
It didn't seem good. My relief evaporated. I headed to the door, leaving them behind. When I reached the hall, I was glad it was only Mary.
She smiled at my sight and got on her feet.
When Elizabeth and Silver stopped right behind me after a second, "Come, we should leave soon. Your father must be home at any time." She said, turning her back on us, she paced away.
King Kelstov's presence halted our feet. He held Elizabeth's hand, "I'll help you whenever you need me," She opened her mouth to retort, "Without any condition." He pressed his lips on her knuckles.
Elizabeth sighed in relief and nodded, "Thank you is a small word. But thank you. I wish you good health and proud to your realm." She said.
He smiled and bowed his head. Leaving her hand, he turned to me, "Princess Aubrette has asked me to deliver this to you," He held out a black velvet box.
I took it and opened it. A small pear-shaped teal sapphire stone blinked as the light dropped on it. It was studded into rose gold metal.
"Only an Earth Faerie could have this gem. It's a huge thing. She gave it to you. " Mary said, her eyes were on the stone.
There was a small note. I plucked it and flipped it to reveal
'For your good health!
Put it on your second finger.
Thank you is a small word, friend.'
I glanced back at it and smiled. Plucking it from the box, I put it on.
"It's very beautiful. Please, tell her I like her gift." I bowed my head.
He bowed his head to me. He glanced at Elizabeth one more time. She looked uncomfortable. He didn't seem to bother. I was glad Edward wasn't here to tear him apart.
He turned swiftly and strode out.
"Auntie must be waiting," Silver whispered.
Silently, we walked over to the door,
