Chapter 52

Ch. 52 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I scurried to their room. It was early morning and I was hoping they would wake up. I raised my hand to knock.

They opened before I could tap. Mom's worried face was in front of me, "Sweetie!" She breathed heavily.

She opened her mouth again, eyes concerned and big. I cut her off, "Can I talk to both?" I asked.

"Did you find the book? Are you here for permission?" Mom inhaled deeply.

I arched my eyebrows. I wouldn't come to ask for permission, but to tell her my decision, "We haven't found the book." I said.

Her hand shot to her chest and she took deep breaths. Her smile returned. She knew the danger lying ahead on the path.

"Come in, Emma," Charles said from behind. He was wearing casual clothes instead of a dark suit.

"Are you going somewhere?" I asked.

They exchanged looks but didn't utter a word. Mom held my hand and pushed me on the couch near the hearth. The warmth felt good. I pulled my legs up to get more comfortable.

"Should I get you something to eat?" Mom ran her hand in my hair.

I smiled up at her. Her features relaxed more, "Sorry to disturb you, I should ask this before entering the room."

"You don't need permission," Charles said.

I flashed a soft smile in his way. The furrow over his forehead disappeared, "It's a full moon in the coming two days."

They looked at each other. Mom sat on the arm of the couch, "Yes, do you need anything, Sweetie?" Her arm wrapped around my shoulder.

"Are you guys serious about each other?" I asked, sounding stupid, "Of course, you're." I giggled.

Her kind smile rippled across her face and reached her amber eyes, "Nothing is more important than you, princess," She kissed my head, leaning in.

"You're hurting your mate, mom." She looked at me with as much wonder as this was the least expected thing.

"Nothing is more important than our kids," Charles said.

They seemed pretty serious, "Listen up, parents!" A blush crept on my mother's face. She didn't look older than eighteen at the moment.

His eyebrow inched up his forehead, but he didn't elaborate, "Say it without hesitation," He said, softly

"I want you to get married," I said, without wasting any breath

A wave of shock flashed over their faces, "We're already mated," Mom said.

My gaze shot to her throat for confirmation. I could see new but faded marks of his teeth.

Mom tried to hide them with her hair. I rolled my eyes, "Moon ceremony? If you don't wanna wed like humans. " I asked.

She sighed and a soft smile flashed over her face, "Do you know?" Her second hand rested against my cheek.

"I attended Max's moon ceremony with him," I said.

Mom nodded and her gaze turned to Charles. His face folded into a mask of wrinkles, "Can you act a little humanly around me? I can't hear your conversation in your head." I asked them.

"Are you accepting us?" Charles asked what was his biggest problem these days. My option!

"We're family." He looked at me as if he didn't look convinced with my words, "That man!" His brows furrowed, "I don't know any father figure in my life. It would take time. I just don't want this to come between you two." This conversation was going somewhere else. I turned my gaze to the flames.

I felt myself rising from the couch in anticipation and firmly clasped the chair arms to ground myself.

"You're not coming between us, " Her fingers pressed on my cheeks, her gaze turned more affectionate.

"I don't know how to say," I got on my feet, "I've stayed like a human most of my life. I needed to learn a lot of things and develop feelings like other ones and thinking too. " I paused. I could feel their eyes on me, "You should get married if you love each other. I would like to see a ring and a wedding." I said, flashing my best smile.

Mom chuckled and took me in a huge, "You didn't notice?" She asked, pulling back immediately. She lifted her hand.

I stared down at her ring finger with big eyes. A fat diamond, with small diamonds in a straight line, gleamed in her ring finger. I had seen it before but never asked.

"Oh!"

"We're already mated. We wed. We couldn't inform you. " Mom said.

"Okay," I cut her off and circled the couch to reach the door. What was all this then? Ring, lunch, and all that.

"Sweetie! We wanna tell you. Everything happened so suddenly," Mom said, turning to me.

"Nothing happens so suddenly, mom," I said angrily.

"We were going to tell you," Charles stepped forward, his forehead creased.

"Tell me when! When you're having kids!" I snapped angrily.

My mother gasped, "Emersyn!" She stared at me. Charles was at her side, comforting his mate. They acted as I had thrown a stone at them.

"I'm staying in your home. You could have told me at any time instead of being dramatic." I said.

"See! Your home!" Mom's tone turned angry and complained.

"It was just Ava and Luke first. Who makes me feel like an outsider. Now you two too." I yelled.

"You can't talk to your mother like that, " Charles said, his gaze flashing amber.

"Or what! Will use your Alpha power on me," I snapped.

"Now watch your tone, young lady." Mom glared at me. She sighed, leaving her anger, "You're my daughter, our daughter. No one is making you feel like an outsider. They were just worried about your reaction." She said.

She could understand their feelings but not mine. It infuriated me. She lifted her hand to touch my cheek, "Don't touch me," I circled my arm in the air and pushed her hand away. She looked wounded with my move. Tears gathered in her eyes. I couldn't take the intensity and pain I gave to her. I rushed out of the room.

Tears streamed down my cheeks, my chest tightened. 'I'm not part of their family. They're werewolves. I'm just a human. That could be the reason Dastien left me. He's breaking ties with everyone who is related to me. '

I headed out of the house. My tears were running silently. I pulled my jacket closer to my chest to block the cold. I wasn't ever going back to her house. I was f***** staying there and no one could tell me anything but two members of the family continued to make me feel like I am an outsider and fucking have invaded their family! Their privacy.

Aggressively, I wiped my sleeve on my cheek. My feet didn't stop until I was facing the portal. I lifted my shivering hand. It would let only the Alpha pass. I was merely a human, a weak and sucky one. I got sick suddenly and I hadn't discovered the reasons yet.

I placed it against the shimmering wall. I prayed inwardly to let it pass me, "Emma!" I shivered hearing a male voice.

I spun. Jasper was towering over me after taking a long stride. He was wearing a tee-shirt and sweatpants, "What are you doing here?" I asked.

He frowned as his gaze washed over my face with tears rolling down, "It's four am." He said.

He trained every day, exercised every day. He's one of the Alphas in his team, "Ok," I turned to the portal again.

He held my hand, "Why are you crying? He asked, lowering his head.

Someone cleared his throat clearly. My head jerked up. Jack was walking toward us, holding a long coat, he held his hand out.

He placed the coat over my shoulders, " You shouldn't be out here alone. Anyone can attack you."

" Yeah! I'm weak and human." I muttered, more tears ran down.

"No!" Jack shook his head and ran his thumb on my cheek.

Jasper's arm tightened around my shoulder like a brother I always wanted, "Anyone can attack you to get anything he wants from us."

"Like?" I didn't understand.

"Our pack, our territory, it could be anything. I won't hide anything. There could be a war too. " he said

"You look pretty serious. Nothing to scare me?" I asked.

He chuckled and shook his head, "Nothing to scare you," He gestured us to follow him.

"I don't wanna go back," I told Jasper.

"We're not going there." He said.

"So you already know," I thinned my lips.

He tapped the side of his temple, "They are worried about you." He said.

"I don't wanna talk to them." My gaze darted on Jack's back. He seemed to enjoy his walk in the foggy atmosphere. But he was listening to our conversation. No matter how low I spoke, he'd hear us, "I wanna go back to the academy."

"You agreed to their wedding already. What's the fuss then?" He asked.

"I am an outsider," I muttered looking at the castle in front of my gaze. The next mansion belonged to Charles. I could see them standing in the doorway. They saw us and began to trot toward us, "I don't want them around me. I mean it, Jas." I shouted angrily. So they could hear me too, "I'll run away. Away from you all." I meant it.

"You're not going anywhere, Emma." Jack's voice was full of authority as his gaze turned to me, "Take her home. I'll talk to them." His voice softened immediately.

"Come, you need to sleep," He said.

When he turned to the giant and regal double door of the castle, polished mirror and wooden staircase, I relaxed. I peered up at the ceiling. The Chandeliers were hanging proudly giving the hall a more royal look, "Your castle is beautiful."

Jasper laughed, "It's our house,"

It was warm inside, "Em, are you alright?" Cassidy asked me worriedly.

I glanced at Jasper for help. But he didn't give me any hint and left me alone to deal with his mother, "Yes, aunt." I nodded.

Her gaze turned gruff, "What were you thinking, young lady? Leaving the house at this time of night. We have enemies. They could kidnap you. " She stared at me.

I blinked in shock. That wasn't expected.

"Mom!" Jasper said.

She sighed, "We're worried about you, dear. Don't you know your mother?"

"I don't wanna talk about her." I muttered, lowering my gaze.

"Alright," She caressed my cheek, reminding me of my mother, "We are family. You're not an outsider."

"Did you tell your momma?" I stared at Jas.

He shook his head.

"I can scent it in the air." She said, "Take her to Vanessa's room."

"I'm going out for a run. You can stay in my room. I'll use the guest room." Jasper said, tugging me to his room.

"I'll stay in the guest room," I told him.

"We're not going to stay here. In the morning, we're heading to the library." He said.

"I wanna go somewhere else." I told him. Though, I didn't mention his name but my head didn't stop reciting his name for a second. I'm missing him.

"Sure," He opened the door, "Sweet dreams," He said.

Nodding, I walked in his room. It was exactly as I was expecting it too. All muscular, "Your bed sheets are clean, right?" I asked.

He arched his brows, "I'm future Alpha. Do you think there is any dirt in my room?" He said.

"It's super clean. Are you sure? I can stay in the guest room." I asked.

"Ava told me. You hate the guest room."

Because we never have one. He didn't need to know.

"Hi," Vanessa said, she was wearing her pink night suit with a cartoon character printed on it. It looked like a red bird. I didn't know it.

"Vanessa," I relaxed. I didn't want to use his room. His girlfriend wouldn't like it. I was extra careful after my collision with Silver.

"She doesn't want to use your room. You can use mine. " She took hold of my hand and began to tug me away from him.

Jasper snorted, "At eight am, we're heading out." He said.

"Got it. Thanks," I glanced back at him. His frown was deep over his forehead.

"I won't disturb you," Vanessa said.

"You're not disturbing me." I muttered.

She pushed open the door, "It's your room. You can stay as long as you want," She said, smiling.

I peered inside. The walls were white matching with white sheets, curtains and couch, "Whose room was this?" I asked.

"Good night, Emma. See you at the dining hall." She just disappeared in her room.

That was strange. I stared at the closed door of her room for a second before sauntering in the room. I should really take some sleep. I closed the door behind me and walked over to the bed. I don't want to think over my conversation with them.
