Chapter 58

Ch. 58 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

A shiver swept up my spine when I found myself staring at the broad chest. I felt waves of stings when his cold fingers brushed my arm. I could feel cold radiating from him. Another shudder ran because of the sudden cold.

"What are you doing?" I panicked. I took in every inch of his perfectly sculptured face. His eyelashes were long, thick, and black as they shadowed the planes of his chiseled cheekbones.

He grinned and removed his hand away, "It looks better now," He said turning his gaze down, "You'll be okay out of the academy for a few hours." He said.

I gasped, "You know magic." The bruise was gone.

"See you soon, " His eyes changed colour again, there was promise in his voice with a hidden meaning.

"My friend will be safe. Right?" I asked.

"Not you?" He asked, arching his brows. His soft smile didn't disappear.

"I know. I won't live long." I didn't know. Why did I say that but I felt it strongly? Life seemed impossible without Dastien.

He stared at me in disbelief, "See you tomorrow at seven." He said and disappeared in the air.

Did he use his speed so that I couldn't see him? He just couldn't disappear. Suddenly, I wasn't hungry. I placed the apron back. I was clenching in for dear life.

I opened the door. To my shock, they were going to break the door. Thanks to werewolf speed and balance. They held themselves before knocking me down with their broad shoulders.

"Hi," I smiled.

Instead, their faces were expressionless, and their eyes were cold and remote. Silver and Elizabeth stared at me.

They sniffed the air, "Vampire," Silver muttered. Fear clung to her face.

"Yeah! Cold king came. He has invited us tomorrow to the Blue Mountains." I said.

"Oh! I was scared. I should find some magic. You can't...." Elizabeth looked away.

I glanced down at my arm, "He said. I'll be fine out of the academy for a few hours." I walked in and avoided sitting on the couch.

"It doesn't sound good. He's dangerous." Silver said, sauntering behind me.

Edward stared at the dead hearth and strode over to the back door to bring logs for the fire.

"What did he say?" Drake asked.

"Nothing much. Yeah! I can bring someone with me." I said.

"We should call for a meeting." Daniel said.

Drake nodded and both hurried to the door.

Silver's agitated gaze turned to me, "Why couldn't we come in?" She demanded.

"I asked Burt to not let anyone in." I said and sat at the table.

Edward walked in with a heap of logs in his arm. He dropped them on the carpet and turned to the hearth. I looked at his perfectly straight nose, jaw. He looked fine.

"You can't block us," Elizabeth thinned her lips.

Silver sighed heavily, "We need a plan if we're going to his territory."

"We? No one is coming with me," I said and felt all gazes on me.

"What do you mean?" I felt her exasperation.

"I'll go with Burt," I said.

"That's stupidity," Elizabeth retorted angrily.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I won't put your lives in danger. I'll let you know every single detail of our conversation." I spun to the door.

"She can't do that." I heard Silver. Her anger wasn't hidden.

That was best. Vampire would kill me. Not kill, I'll be their slave and they'll drink blood from me. They are werewolves and they aren't friendly with vampires. Burt can protect me.

"We need to talk," Silver said and shot an agitated glance at me.

"No," I turned, shaking my head, "I'm going to sleep. Goodnight," I pushed my feet away from the door after closing it.

"She's taking revenge. We didn't take her with us," I heard Elizabeth.

I didn't think that. Nice excuse. I laid down staring at the ceiling. I needed a plan but I had no one to discuss it with. I wouldn't involve my friends. It's my battle to fight. It's not really a battle.

I waited until the noises outside died. I pushed the blanket away and got on my feet.

I drifted at the door. I peeped outside. My eyebrows rose inquiringly as I tried to discern what he was doing here. He didn't need the warmth of the burning fire.

He stared at me with relentless intensity.

I bit on my lower lip to hold back the shiver. I didn't know him. He was a stranger to me. He knew him so I wasn't asking him to leave the house.

"I shouldn't hurt you," He said

I didn't try to correct him. He couldn't use his werewolf power on me, "Where are they?" I asked.

"In the meeting hall with others." He said.

"Why?" I asked, stepping out behind the door.

"They are worried about you." He said.

Shame flooded my face. I shrugged them off, "That's for the best. I won't be able to forgive myself if something happens to them."

He looked at me and nodded. But I felt doubt in his nod. He was just postponing the talk on this right now.

"She thinks. I've hurt you." He muttered.

I chuckled. Though there was no reason to, " Don't claim to live in terror of her." I mocked.

He let out a small smile, "You won't understand. Things were really odd between us before." he said.

"You didn't hurt me. I was being extra stubborn." I chanced a glance at him. He was staring at the fire, lost in his thoughts.

"I shouldn't say that,"

"True,"

He looked at me with a frown, "Hi, you're up. We've cooked for you," Silver said in a happy tone.

"You're not coming with me." I said.

They exchanged a look, "We'll see tomorrow." Elizabeth quickened her pace at me and grabbed my hand. It was just an excuse. She was inspecting for any wounds.

I extended my second arm too, "I'm not hurt. He just doesn't know how to talk to girls." I pulled my arm away.

He clenched his jaw as he turned to us, "Pretty true," Silver said, snorting at Edward.

He cleared his throat, "Can I join you, ladies?" He glanced at Elizabeth with a soft gaze.

"Of course, come." I headed to the kitchen. I could endure him for Betty.
