"I thought, mom has invited SevenA." I told Jasper as I sat on the bench with a cup of hot chocolate.
Before I could take a sip, Luke grabbed it from me. When I whirled on the bench to stare at him. He winked at me and quickly drank from the cup. If his tongue had burnt he wouldn't show it to me. It would have healed speedily.
"Actually, She did." Silver paused to grab my attention. I plucked my stare from Luke and glanced at her, "But they need to find the book.''
" I should thank them all," I told them proudly to have them in my life.
They exchanged worried looks, "The job isn't so easy. We need to get it as quick as we can." Jasper said, drawing my attention somewhere else.
"There's something more. Something essential." I asked.
"There's actually," Luke sat next to me on the bench again. My gaze darted to him. Jasper glared at him, giving him a look of warning, "She needs to know. He was her mate."
"What do you mean by Was?" I shrieked, staring at him in awe. He couldn't say anything just to hurt me.
"Em," Elizabeth held my hand. My head jerked to her, my eyes studying her face, they were hiding something definitely. She used her power to calm my exasperation. It worked but my gaze was demanding answers.
"We can't feel him through the Alpha-bond," Jasper said.
I blinked my eyes, contemplating but nothing was making sense. The elders gathered around us, "Sweetie, I should bring hot chocolate for you. Come, help me in the kitchen. It's a mess there," Mom said.
I didn't move an inch. My gaze fixed on him. It felt a lot more complicated than that, "Tell me," I demanded. Tears pierced in my eyes.
"They have started to notice it too. Our academies, Towns, and people are under attack more than twice in the past few days." Jasper said.
Elizabeth was using her powers to calm me down. It didn't seem to work. Their faces said so at least.
I nodded, "I'm not the only one affected by his absence. Our enemies are taking the opportunity." I breathed heavily, "What does he mean by was?" I asked. I didn't want to consider anything I needed to hear from him.
He leaned in, taking my hand from Elizabeth's hold, "We'll find the book. I promise you." He said, his eyes flashing amber.
"No one is telling her truth," Luke said.
"Luke," Jack snapped at him, his voice strong and powerful. His eyes were holding anger.
Luke snorted and lifted his steps to walk out of the garden, "Stop! Tell me." I ordered him.
"It means. He's dead," He smirked and took a sip from his cup. He turned and looked around.
"Is it true, Jasper?" I asked, still gazing at Luke.
"Em!" Silver began.
I shot on my feet, "I don't wanna hear more lies." I shouted in resentment. My eyes began to burn with tears. I felt my hands trembling. I could still feel the empty space in my heart.
"Get away, Luke," Jasper snarled.
Luke shrugged his shoulders. He held out the cup for me. I glared at him. He stumbled back on his feet. The contained spilled over his clothes. Pure dread flashed in his eyes, he looked at me with pure terror. The cup in his hand turned to ashes.
"Em! Em! Emma! Sweetie!" I heard many voices behind me. But I couldn't look at them. I wanted to hurt Luke. I was barely holding myself. Elizabeth held me. I blinked. My body got heavy. I slammed down. I felt power pushing through my body when two arms curled around me. My lazy eyes met her green eyes.
"Go to sleep!" I heard Charles saying. He could be the beta of the pack. But he was born and trained to be Alpha, the right of firstborn. As Jasper was the future Alpha, first born of the family. I glanced around for Burt. Nothing.
When I opened my eyes, tears rolled down my skin reaching the shell of my ears. Two soft hands wiped them.
"He's alive, just not present at the moment," My head turned, hearing his deep voice. His icy cold eyes met mine. They wouldn't lie to me. I hadn't felt him fully disappear.
I pushed myself up in a sitting position. I didn't notice Elizabeth was holding my hand. I tried to tug my hand but she tightened her grip.
"It's not good." I pulled my hand again.
"You need to calm down." Silver said, sitting on the edge of the mattress.
"I'm okay," I pulled my hand and felt myself drained, dizzy, angry, and mad. Her head shook in disapproval, she grasped my hand more tightly. Tears welled in my eyes, "I have a feeling, I'm turning into a mad person. " I said, looking into my mother's eyes.
"No," She couldn't hold the tears that slid down her eyes, "We'll find a way." She said.
"What if he doesn't want me." I sobbed. I didn't wanna end up like a mad person.
"Don't say this." She took me in an embrace.
"We'll find him, Emma. You can't lose hope," Alessandro said.
I darted my blurry gaze at them. Carlos, Daniel, Drake were also looking at me with worried eyes. Edward was standing behind Elizabeth both of his hands rested on her shoulders, he was strengthening his mate. Betty was looking drained, pale skin.
I wiped my cheeks, pulling out of my mother's arm, "We should go to the library." I told them.
"No, You should rest," Carlos said.
"We'll find the book," Daniel said.
"Indeed, our people are finding the book in every library of the world," Drake said.
"I should do it myself." I put my feet on the ground and peeled myself from the hold of my mother and Elizabeth.
"You're weak," Alessandro said, stopping me by holding me by my shoulders.
I swallowed my need to weep. I shook my head, hoping he would understand me.
"We should let her come," Silver said.
I didn't whirl to gaze at her but they looked at each other, talking in their heads. Alessandro nodded slowly.
"That's not wise. She should stay at home." Daniel said, his voice was deep, heavy with unspoken emotions.
"I'll take care of her. Let her come if she wants to." Elizabeth said.
Six Alphas exchanged looks and their gazes halted on my mother, "Ok," She said firmly, "Anything, you're calling me immediately." She gave them a motherly glare.
All nodded and turned to the door, "Thank you, mom." I said, dredging up a smile for her.
"You're coming home if you're not feeling well." She said, softening her voice. It was the first time I was seeing care and love in her eyes. She wasn't in good condition before. She stayed in bed or yelled staring out at the window.
I sauntered but I neglected the weakness I felt. Was I suffering from any illness or did it belong to Dastien? I couldn't ask them. Maybe later. When my mother wouldn't be around. The deep well of compassion in her eyes stopped me.
I'd been deeming dangerous things. I didn't wanna reveal it to anyone. There must be a strong reason, he left without informing anyone, his people were in danger, He should come here to protect them. If not for me, for them. My thoughts seemed like an arrow to my heart. I refrained from expressing my thoughts to anyone. They could detect it but I wasn't bothered. They had better things to take care of than me.
We walked out of the house, "What have you done to stop the attacks?" I asked, making an attempt to forget the pain.
"Edward, Daniel, and Jasper have to take care of demons," Carlos said as he held the door open for me.
"What are you three doing? You should.." Drake cut me off.
"Everything is under control." He said, guiding me to the door.
"No lies?" I asked, wandering my eyes around, their faces were stern, holding no expressions.
"No lies," Silver said more briskly.
I nodded and climbed into the car. Perhaps, they didn't want to shatter my illusions. Nobody attacked me. I felt like I was beaten badly, "What happened to me?" I asked, rubbing my temple.
"Your wolf is weak," Alessandro said, getting behind the wheel.
"Silver is going to kill me," I mocked, chuckling. I was sitting in the passenger seat.
"You're Jasper's sister. You're my sister too. Don't ever think that my mate will hurt you. You're King's mate, our queen." He said, looking at me.
I chuckled again, "Don't mention him. It hurts." My eyes welled up again. I pulled my knees up and hugged my legs. He didn't leave anything for me but wallowing. I rested my head over my knees, looking out of the window. It was dark, "When is the moon ceremony? I also want them to wed." I said, I didn't know what would come for me in the next few minutes, days.
"After two days," Alex said.
"I need to talk to my mother and Charles. I don't wanna do it alone." I murmured.
"We can come with you," Silver said.
"Hm," I nodded, "Elizabeth?" I asked.
"She's fine. Don't worry." I felt her hand on my shoulder, patting me softly.
We crossed the portal, our cars moved in a queue. My throat tightened. He never let me out of his sight. He was strict and persuaded me every time not to leave the academy.
