Chapter 70

Ch. 70 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I stirred in my sleep. We were still in the car. The portal wasn't working. So we have to fly back to the academy. First, we're going to Mary's house.

"Em!" I glanced at Elizabeth. She was sitting next to me, "I was waiting for you to wake up." She looked nervous.

Fear struck again, I pulled myself upright and gave her every ounce of my attention. Though I was feeling sleepy.

She looked at Silver. Mary nodded her head to encourage her to speak.

It must be related to Dastien, "What did he say?" I asked.

"He wants you to stop this. He can't see you in pain. " She said.

I thinned my lips, "He can come and tell me this on my face. I'm not stopping anything. He should take me with him."

"That's what we know too," Silver giggled.

"Do they want this too?" I asked.

"No, Edward said he said so he couldn't see you in pain. But we need him here or at least he should do something against the imbalance." Elizabeth said.

I nodded. If I survived this ordeal of the curse, the end would be full of joy. I yawned. I was slumbering under the effects of the healing tonic. I could sleep more.

"Drink this," Elizabeth said, holding out the bottle for me.

I could smell herbs and honey, "Herbal tonic?" I asked.

She needed, "Your skin was damaged," I knew she wanted to say more. It would just hurt me.

I took it from her and brought it up to my mouth. I took a long sip and shoved it back in her hand. My eyelids were already heavy.

A silence hung between us. He wanted me to stay in my shell that couldn't be. Why couldn't he be here? Here with me?

His words grated on my nerves. He couldn't do this when I was in love with him. A relieved breath slid from my lungs. They're with me, though he wanted something else. Questions, more than I could even articulate, swirled in my mind. I tamped them, they weren't going to answer. I should do it myself. Who cursed me? Why? When? I should talk to my mother. But I didn't remember anyone cursing me.

"How far?" I asked. Desperately, I wanted to get away from the fae land. They were good with us though, never made a deal with faeries. I had read about it in a book. I wasn't in my sleep. It was dark out of the window. My gaze rested on my wrist. I saw a glimpse of my bracelet. They were clearly visible.

"Thirty minutes, sweetheart, we'll be home. Then you can..." Mary's voice cut with a blast. The side of my head hit the window. Pain shot through my head. A beep sound blocked all the voices and noises.

I tried to stir, move myself. I could only blink my eyes. I saw people sprinting toward us through the crack of my eyes.

'No, they are not people. They've pointed ears. All are wearing dark cloaks, helmets covering their heads, swords in their hands. We're under attack.'

Beneath my trepidation, I tried to move and opened my eyes to call my friends and Mary. I tried to push myself up, an attempt to hide myself from onlookers.

"Wicked! Immortal creatures, I'll kill you all." I heard Silver.

A sob stuck in my throat as I tried to speak. No strength left in me. I felt my body lump. The skin around my eyes grew hot, and tears clouded my vision.

"Gerald," A figure waved his hand in the air.

Unseen power hit me, knocking me out.

I opened my eyes. My cheek was pressed against something cold. I forced my eyes to stay open. I saw logs burning and people sitting around it. It was huge and in the shape of a pentacle. The flames were so tall that I could see them above their heads too. I could feel the slight heat. But the cool wind made it worse. My body trembled when I saw bars.

I pushed myself up, jamming my hands against the cold metal. I heard laughter. My gaze drifted around. I was caged. The mocking, monstrous faces looked at me. Dread rolled through my belly. I drew in a sharp breath when I felt a sharp pain at the side of my head. A hand waved and I saw dark smoke in the air.

I fall back on the metal ground. I tried but I couldn't gather the strength to sit. I held my hand to my temple. It hurt when my fingers pressed softly.

Where are you all? I tried to gulp down the rising panic. My chest tightened. My eyes clouded with tears again. I could hear them laughing. I was still in fae land. Nausea crawled up. My gaze was forced to close again.
