Chapter 24: The Caprices Of The Supreme Alphas
Darian's POV
"You mean your twin brother is claiming that she's his mate too?" Ciara asked me in surprise.
"Yes, is that even possible?" I asked her while raising my hands in frustration.
Actually, after leaving Richard's pack, I branched over to Ciara's pack to see if I could get any help from her.
"Yes, it's possible, Darian. It's possible for twins to have the same mate, but she will end up with only one, and the other will have to wait for a second chance mate; you could have been the one she ended up with if not for your arrogance," Ciara said to me, and immediately I bent my head in grief. She was right after all; if I hadn't mistreated her, she wouldn't have run away from the castle, and I wouldn't be fighting over her with my brother.
"Tell me, Darian, what are you planning to do next?" Ciara asked me.
"My brother is trying everything he can to mark her before me, and I have to get her out of there before he succeeds in doing that, but the problem is that I don't have soldiers," I said to her.
"Let me guess, you want me to assign some of my soldiers to you, right?" She asked me, and I nodded positively.
"I'm sorry, Darian, but I can't do that. Your brother is a Lycan king, and possibly half of his soldiers are Lycans too, and we both know how strong and aggressive Lycans are. My men aren't trained for such wars; they are trained to fight against rogues, not Lycans," Ciara said to me, and immediately I sighed heavily.
"Why don't you mind linking with your beta and asking him to bring you some soldiers from the castle who would help you in rescuing your mate from the hands of your brother?" Ciara asked me with an inquisitive look.
"Actually, I have been trying to mind link with him for over two weeks now, but his link is blocked, as is that of all the warriors in the palace," I said to her, and immediately she furrowed her brows at me.
"Isn't that strange that the link between your beta and other warriors in the pack is being blocked at the same time? I hope something bad hasn't happened to them." she said to me.
"To be sincere, Ciara I don't know; all that matters to me right now is my mate and my son," I said to her, and she nodded.
"I will advise you to go back to your pack and choose the best warriors among your soldiers. You will also use the opportunity to see how things have been in your pack since all this time," she said to me.
"What about my mate? What about if Richard marks her before my arrival?" I asked her with a dejected tone.
"That will depend on you, Darian; you can leave this evening and come back tomorrow; after all, you are already used to all the routes in the forest, so I don't see what is going to delay you," she said to me, and immediately I sighed heavily.
"I will be taking my leave this evening, then I will be back tomorrow, possibly in the evening," I said to her, and she nodded positively before standing and approaching me.
"Don't forget, Darian, the more time you waste in coming will be equivalent to the time you are wasting to claim back your mate," Ciara said to me before patting me on the shoulder and walking out.
After resting for some minutes, I started heading back to my pack, accompanied by the two soldiers who have stood close to me through all the tribulations I have faced in the forest.
Due to the fact that we wanted to get back to the castle as soon as possible, in order to return quickly, we didn't use the horses; instead, we shifted into our wolf forms and started running back to the castle.
After running for almost an hour, we finally arrived at the borders of our pack.
Once I got to the border, the sweet scent of my pack filled my nose, and immediately I smiled at myself before running off to the palace.
After running for some extra minutes, we stopped at a spot and shifted into our human forms, and after putting on our clothing, we started heading to the castle. In other cases, I would have mind linked with my soldiers and ask them to come and fetch me, but since all their links were blocked, we had no choice but to walk to the castle, and happily, everywhere was already dark, so there is no need to be afraid that someone would attack us while we are returning to the castle because, with the way we covered ourselves up, it won't be easy for anyone to recognize us.
When we got back to the palace, everything seemed awkward, starting with the fact that my beta, who was supposed to take care of the castle in my absence, was now among the gatekeepers, and all the soldiers were looking at us surprisedly as if they had seen a ghost.
"What is the meaning of this, Jared? What are you doing in the post of gatekeeper?" I asked him while fuming in anger, but he signaled to me to calm down that there was something that he wanted to say.
With that, I followed him to one of the private locations outside the castle.
"Can you now tell me what is going on?" I said to him with an inquisitive look.
"Some weeks ago, the supreme Alphas came here, and they informed us that you were dead, he said to me while avoiding my gaze.
"What!" I exclaimed in surprise.
"Is that why you blocked your mind link?" I asked him inquisitively.
"No, I didn't; I have tried to link with you since when the Supreme Alphas broke the news to us, but your link too was blocked," he said to me, and immediately I shook my head in disbelief.
"And where are the supreme Alphas?" I asked him.
"They are now the ones ruling the pack," he said to me while avoiding my gaze.
"What!" I exclaimed in surprise once again.
