It was a great time before the slaughter. I was glad I could spend time with them. My friends were tired. So they hurried to their rooms. Ava was behind them. I didn't see him after he disappeared in the dark.
"Good night, kiddo." Drake kissed my head before taking the stairs. His rare gaze turned to Luke and they nodded at each other. I couldn't understand them and their nodding.
When Drake was upstairs I whirled to Luke, "You don't need to do this against your will. I can talk to Charles." I told him.
He shook his head, "I didn't do this so you could talk to Dad. I was wrong. You're not as bad as I thought you would be." He said.
My eyes narrowed at him, "Did someone try to poison your ears against me?" I asked.
"Doesn't matter," He shoved his hands in his jeans pockets and climbed the stairs, quicker than I could imagine.
Instead of turning to my room, I turned to my mother's room. She would be awake. I was hoping. I'd say her name once. Just once. The woman who cursed me.
When I sauntered toward their room. The door was already opened. They had given me a room next to them.
"Um, hi." They were already on their feet.
"Are you okay?" Mom asked. She was wearing her silky nightgown.
"Can we talk?" I asked, looking at Charles.
I sat on the couch. Charles closed the door softly behind him. I felt weird to be in their room at this time of night. They must have sensed my awkwardness.
"I think..."
"Luke was telling the truth when he said he didn't do this so you could talk to Charles," Mom said.
I relaxed and nodded, turning my gaze at Charles, "You should take back the restrictions." I said.
They exchanged looks. They were hiding something, "You were up. It's too late. Is something...?" I trailed looking between them.
Mom held my hand and Charles sat on the single couch in front of me, "We talked to his friends." His scowl deepened. It didn't seem good.
I inhaled, preparing myself for something bad, "And?" I asked.
"Luke was disturbed. No one knows. But his friends said that they saw him with a figure who always covered her head." He whispered.
Her! Not his? How many of them are wandering around me and my family? It's clear. No one is safe. If I tell them, I saw someone too. They won't allow me out of the room, strange faces will guard me.
"Did you talk to him?" I asked.
"No, but our healers say. He was bewitched." Charles said.
"Mary will come here. We did what she told us to do." Mom said.
It was concerning. That was the reason I didn't wanna come to her, "Does he know?" I asked.
"Yes, he's training hard. Our wolf can protect us from any spell. He didn't know the methods before." Charles said, sadly.
"Like never see in Vampire's eyes?" I asked.
Mom nodded, "He's fine now. He did not mean all that."
"I got it. Is Ava alright?" I asked.
"They're alright, sweetie." Mom held my hand and exchanged her worried gaze with me, "We're worried about you. Don't go anywhere alone." She said, worriedly.
If I had a week. I mean six days, I wouldn't spend them putting myself in danger, "I won't." I got on my feet, "Good night," I whirled to the door. Ava was quiet and mostly stayed with her friends.
"Don't hesitate for anything." Charles said.
"Good night, sweetie." Mom grasped me from behind curling her arm around my neck, she pressed a kiss on my cheek, "My baby," She muttered.
I giggled, "You're having a small baby. He or she would love you to hold him all day."
She chuckled. Her cheeks turned tomato red.
My mind bubbled with many questions. I didn't hope they would answer me. I couldn't do anything but hold my tongue. If my question hurts them, better I should keep my mouth shut. Friday night, we spent time in the club after our horrible adventure in the woods. The Horror part was only for me. Only I have seen the hooded personality.
They were two, could be more too. I should try to talk to them. They could be helpful. I glanced at Ava. She'd be easy. Her eyes landed on me and she flashed her casual smile.
I smiled back and sauntered over to the chair, "Walk?" I asked her. She went to the gym and she ran three kilometers daily with Luke in the morning. Only I was the lazy one in our entire community.
She got on her feet, shrugging, and carried herself toward the door. I felt our mother's and Charles's gazes on us.
"We won't go far, Mom." I said, still feeling like a five-year-old kid.
She flashed a full smile but her eyes were embedded with worries at me.
I hurried my treads behind her. When I slowed my pace, she smiled at me again.
"Oh! Come on. We're sisters. I don't need a formal smile from you," I said to her.
Her fake smile dropped, "I don't wanna be second Katherine or Samantha." Her voice changed with sad emotions.
After seeing her remorseful expression, it reminded me of Samantha too. Though I hadn't seen Katherine with remorse, though she cared for her sister. The hooded woman could be behind all this. Did she curse me? She seemed to insist on making my life hell.
"You're not a bad girl." I told her.
Her eyes were glassy when she lifted her eyes to meet mine. We listened breathlessly as the silence gave way to a faint sound of dead leaves crushing beneath our boots. I could do anything for her, my friends, and family. Luke, and Samantha were also included.
"But I was really bad. I'm so shameful over my behavior. Sorry, I can't correct anything."
"Why don't we forget that part? You're still my sweet little sister," It was true. No matter how badly she treats me I'd always love her and care for her. I could understand my mother when she didn't hate Katherine. It's love that stops you from developing negative feelings.
She smiled and took me in a bear hug, "I'm so sorry." She muttered.
I couldn't force her to tell me. I had a few days, and I could encourage her to share her problems with me, "Do you wanna talk?" I paused. I didn't want to give her any hint.
"Um, no." She shook her head, pulling herself back.
I nodded and hid my disappointment behind my happy face, "Now, you're also part of our team. You could help me." I told her.
Her expression turned shocked, "Really?" Her eyes were dilated in shock.
"Are you doubting me?" I shot my brows up.
After taking a deep breath, she took me in an embrace again, "Thank you," She was looking a bit nervous.
"Let's eat something," I gripped her hand and pulled her with me.
She hopped on her feet, excitedly. Life seemed on the track. I had to prepare mentally for my unknown enemies.
