Fire Wolf Series

Chapter 34

Ch. 34 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I forced my smile to remain in place. His knuckles were white gripping the steering wheel. His face was masked but his eyes were flashing fire and sometimes, it turned normal forest green. His jaw was tense.

He promised to talk to me later. After seeing his sour mood. I have changed my mind.

I eyed him closely, keeping my expression neutral, though my heart was slamming against my chest. I wasn't trying to hide it as his wolf could hear it easily, without making any effort.

He drew his brows together as he looked at me. The question was over the tip of his tongue.

"It's too late. The Headmaster won't punish me," I said in hope.

His lips twitched as the corners of his lips curled up, "I've already informed him. You're with me. You don't need to worry." His smile washed away some of my worries.

"You shouldn't be out with me. It's too late. Your mate must be waiting for you," I said.

His face was wreathed in frustration. He pulled over the car in the middle of the road. The entire downtown was sleeping. Still, I didn't want anyone to hear a single word exchanged between us, "I'm with my mate," He said, looking me in the eyes.

My heart picked a race, drumming in my ears. I forced myself to remain calm, not to freak out. I must have heard him wrong, "Your mate is not here, Dastien." I looked around the car. It was only us two, "In case, she's a ghost. I can't see her." It literally sent shivers down my body.

He met my gaze, the forest green in his eyes turned into red flames, "She's here, " He let out a soft growl.

I had to work hard not to show my fear. What use! He could smell my emotions, "Is she coming?" I looked out of the windshield. It was only us.

He leaned closer, his power drawing me closer to him, "Emersyn," His voice was saccharine, so sweet, "You're my mate." His eyes glowed amber.

I breathed in and out. I tried hard not to smile, "You're kidding. Right?" I asked him, laughing.

Though, my mind was shouting at me that he wasn't a fun-loving person. He was my mate.

His gaze held a warning as he kept staring at me. I stopped laughing and gulped, "I'm human, Dastien." I muttered

He said something in a foreign language so swiftly that I couldn't catch a word. He leaned closer, grabbing full attention of me.

"We're mates. Two halves. You're my half, I'm your." He paused, studying me.

I leaned back to bite on my own fingers. I felt the pain. I wasn't dreaming, "I'm human. You're a werewolf and the king,"

"I'm more than that," His voice lacked emotion.

"It can't be. I don't understand." I shook my head. Nothing was making sense to me.

"You're my mate. That's all you need to know." He was in an angry mood.

"How?" I demanded.

He shot me an annoyed look. My questions didn't please him.

"I wanna know. How could it be? I'm..." My mouth shut when he placed his hand over my thigh and squeezed it softly.

His gaze turned soft, "My Mate," He said, emotions finally threading his voice. I couldn't deny the pull I felt toward him every time he was around me. But mate! It was a big deal.

My gaze turned to him. He was looking expressionless, his eyes were soft and returned to his normal colour. I nodded.

He revived the car. I stayed in my seat puzzled, many things revolving in my mind.

He pulled the car into the parking lot. I didn't wait and jumped out of the car. Without glancing back, I sprinted toward the dormitory.

Mate! I don't know much about his world but if it's true, his claim is genuine, my life is going to change. I'm already deep in feelings with him. Elizabeth's words echoed in my mind. Did she predict this?

I took the stairs. I didn't stop running. My breathing was turning shallow. I reached for the door. A warm strong hand curled around my wrist. His scent filled my senses as he tugged me to his chest.

My arms were placed on his chest, his arms locking around me holding me to his chest. My body lit up like a firework. Heat rushed through my veins. My brain went into pause mode, where I understood everything, but I couldn't deny, though I didn't want to deny. It seemed impossible.

He leaned in, his warm lips pressed my mouth. Heat poured off both of us as his tongue slid out to trace across my lips. He pressed his lips again, holding me more tightly, hoisting up, my feet dangling in the air. My eyes closed, feeling all the emotions from the root. My hands clenched his shirt.

"Good night," He said against my lips,

My breathing was breaking the silence. He took out the card key of my room and unlocked the room. I still clung to him. His hold began to unfasten when he reached near the bed.

"Good night," I said huskily, breathing out.

He smiled and kissed my forehead. Placing me on my feet, he whirled to the door and strode out.

"Mate," I deflated. How would I endure his coldness and cruelty? He hasn't kept this for me, but I've seen. I couldn't feel the loneliness I felt after he left the room. The small part of my head was genuinely glad. I could feel his lips on mine. I smiled.

Technically, I don't know what is the right thing to do. Am I ready to be part of this world forever? I truly don't know. Will I ever get affection from a cold person? His people are scared of him. I am still in the dark about everything. How could he just declare that I'm his mate? Mate is for a lifetime. Werewolves can't survive without the other half of them. There are so many questions. No one is around to answer me. He is a strong and fearless man-which made him terrifying and a powerful king with supernatural powers.

I removed my heels and laid back on the mattress. I wasn't going to sleep. I continued to stare straight ahead.

Mate! Mate!

My mind kept enchanting, happily. I pushed myself in a sitting position and grabbed the book. I had read about mate but hadn't heard anything if the mate is human.

It didn't take me long. I began to read very carefully, and didn't want to miss a single word. My heart was hammering inside me when I was trying to understand every word.

My jaw dropped at the information. I was expecting it to be a different kind of relationship. But it was the same as Silver and Alessandro.

I shut the book. I wasn't capable of taking more. I covered my face with my hands. I was confused about my feelings.

Something within me stirred. I never felt alone. Never. But when Dastien went away, I felt the loneliness of the ages. Head or heart! I don't know what to choose. I can't switch on and off my feelings.

A deep sigh and I curved on my back. I hugged my knees and pulled the cover over my body. I closed my eyes.

My frown deepened. My gaze is glued to the mirror. I wore black jeans and an off-shoulder black top. The scar of Silver's claw was starting above my chest and ending under my top.

A soft tap came from the door. I pushed my hair over my shoulders, hiding the scar and hurried out of the washroom.

I was hoping Silver and Elizabeth were standing out the other side of the door, holding a big grin over their faces. I wanted to share a lot of things with them. But they would use the washroom's door, not knock on my door.

"Dastien," I knew I was sounding surprised. I was more than surprised, shocked.

He cleared his throat when I kept looking at him with big eyes. I left the door, making a path for him to walk in. When I blinked, all the girls were gaping at me.

I gulped and closed the door with a loud thud, "Sorry, I... um." I gestured at the door with my thumb.

His scent engulfed me. I couldn't say a word. His arm drew around me, pulling me closer. His lips pressed mine softly. My hands shot to his torso. I wanted to pull away. I couldn't. He deepened the kiss. Heat swamped me. A soft moan slipped off. His tongue brushed over my bottom lip.

"Um," My gaze slithered up to his shoulder. I gripped him to balance myself.

"I'll walk you to your class," he said.

Heat flushed my cheeks. I nodded, withdrawing my hand, "I'll be back." I walked over to the cupboard and plucked a long sleeve top with a round neck. I was aware of his eyes on me.

I closed the door and turned to the mirror. I tucked my hair back.

' I can't wear such a dress ever.'

I reached for the zipper at the back of the top.

The door creaked, showing Dastien, "I need to change. I'll be back." I pivoted on my heels. My lips tingled recalling our kiss. I tried to hide the scar with my hair. Lowering my eyes, I looked at him under my lashes

His brows creased a little, "What are you hiding?" He held my hand pushing away from my hair. He brushed the hair back on my shoulder. I protested, pushing myself back,

His brows creased and his jaw hardened. His gaze fixed on my scar.

"I need to change," I whispered.

"Does it bother you?" He asked.

Pooling tears in my eyes answered him. It rankled me. I believe in self-love. I may not be beautiful like Silver and Elizabeth. But I'm perfect with my imperfections, "Let me change," I muttered, trying to free my hand from his hold.

He tightened his arm, "Let me see,"

"No!" My lips parted, gazing at him with big eyes, "I won't be comfortable." His smell was so enticing. I couldn't let anything distract me.

He ran his thumb softly over the scar. I was so lost in the moment that I didn't notice the cold engulfing me when he stepped back and left the door open behind him.

Gradually, I turned, "Ho..." I leaned nearer and glanced at my reflection, "It can't be," The top fell from my hands. I yanked my hair back. There was no scar.

'How did he do this? Werewolves are the strongest shifters, hunters, can scent anything but this. I haven't read about it.'

I hurried out. He was standing calm in the centre of the room. He was peering down at his phone.

"How did you do this, Dastien?" The sound of my breathing was echoing in my ears.

"Come," He spun to the door, pocketing his phone.

"Dastien," his hand stopped a few inches away from the doorknob.

"I can do this for my mate," He muttered and grabbed the doorknob.

I turned to my backpack and jacket. Mate! I need my friends. Where are they? Dastien might have known about them.

I put on the jacket and hurried to the door, slinging the strap of my backpack over my shoulder.

"Hi," I breathed and paused to catch up my breath. He had reached the stairs.

"They are on their way back to the academy." His hand rested on my lower back, sending a jolt down my spine.

"How do you..." I shut my mouth immediately, knowing the answer already.

' For now, I'm leaving this part, just for now, until they return from their adventure. I hope Elizabeth must have gotten her powers back. I couldn't ignore the pain in her eyes. Though she didn't say anything.'

His arm came around me, "You're starting your training with me," He said.

He looked attractive from all angles, especially side angles. I forced my gaze straight, "Why? I don't wanna fight,"

What am I doing with him? His kind! Gosh! What am I saying? I wasn't expecting this from him. But no matter how furious, how dangerous, or how powerful the shifter is, he can't ignore the mating bond. I don't wanna hurt him. Hell! I wanna stay with him. I have no problem with his being a werewolf. Still! I'm confused.

"You can't trust the circumstances. I'll be always around you, " My heart leaps happily, beating louder, "I want you to learn to handle bad situations, in case.... I'm not around" He didn't seem sure about the 'bad' word. Things could be complicated, more spooky, more dangerous. It's a different world full of supernatural creatures. I've seen vampires. A tremor ran down my spine.

I nodded, returning my eyes to the path.

"I'm not hungry," I told him when we paced toward the cafeteria.

He glanced at me for a second, his head was slightly tilted. He nodded, "Let's get you something packed then." He said.

I stopped near the door while he walked over to the counter. The chefs and staff bowed their heads. I didn't want them to do anything like that for me.

My gaze cut to his direction again no matter how hard I tried not to look his way. I looked away from his back again. I saw Samantha glaring at me from her usual table. Her friends were surrounding her. She always acted like a future to-be-queen. If her eyes would have daggers she would have murdered me a few days ago.

The ringing of a phone broke my eye contact, "Your sister," He said, opening his palm in front of me with his phone.

My lips curved up. I grabbed it and my fingers brushed his palm. Electric waves rushed through my body. He's always so warm, like burning fire,

"Ava! Is everything alright?"

I heard her giggling, "We're fine. Mom is fine. Will you ever stop worrying?"

I sighed, "Never,"

"Well, you need it. So he's your boyfriend."

"Who?" My brows furrowed.

She chuckled, "Dastien," My eyes narrowed at him, still so close, he didn't move an inch away.

"Ava! When did you talk to him?" I stared at him and his lips curled up.

He's seriously playing with me.

He shook his head as he could read my mind.

"When I want to talk to you. "

"Concentrate on your career. I've told you many times."

"Hi, "

"Stop, I'll talk to you later," I clicked to end the call, "What have you told her?" I asked him.

"It's your place to tell her everything," His hand found the side of my waist, carrying me out of the cafeteria.

I couldn't argue when he was so sweet.

"Hello, Dastien. I was waiting for you." Samantha said. Her smile was fake, but only for me.

His brows furrowed, "What's it, Samantha?"

"I can't talk in front of her," She stabbed me with her eyes.

My heart plummeted. He was going to follow her somewhere private, "Talk here or we're not talking,"

After a moment of staring, she took out her phone from her branded bag and hoisted up, "Yes, Mr Wolfe. He's here. Yeah, sure," She held out the phone for him, "Mr Wolfe," She pouted her thin lips, making a perfect pout.

I blew out slowly. Dastien took the phone and placed it against his ear, "Donovan..... Yes..... hm.... ok, " I couldn't comprehend. My gaze darted to Samantha. She must be enjoying it inwardly.

" I have to go. Her sister is missing." He whispered leaning in.

I looked into his forest green eyes but couldn't respond.

"Sandwiches are packed, King." I didn't look back.

He was going with her. Mr Wolfe could talk to him directly. Why was she here?

"Please, we should go," I heard students gasping, hearing ' please' from Samantha. They don't use please and thank you words.

"I'll take it, Rhett," He grabbed the paper bag.

"Thanks, Rhett," I said without looking back at him.

His forest green eyes flashed. His gaze fixed on me, spilling possessiveness.

".. Um.. welcome, ma'am." I heard his loud footsteps descending.

"See you at lunch," He said, placing the paper bag in my hand.

I grabbed the bag and swiftly turned away from him, "Yea, thanks, " I hurried to my Herbology class, which was twice a week. I thought to take this subject seriously. With its help, I could heal any kind of disease. Almost.
