Chapter 120

Ch. 120 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I tried to hide my shock. He was the one who saved me. I embraced him. "You don't need to leave your work behind because of me." I stepped back immediately.

He shook his head grasping a soft smile. "Call me if you need anything. And don't hesitate." He strode over to the car and nodded at Darkice before reaching for the door. "Oh, I forgot."

"No need. I have enough muffins and cookies to share." He lifted his hand that was holding the paper bag. I was expecting sandwiches.

I snorted. I don't wanna share anything with him.

"Are you okay with it, Em?" he asked.

"Yes, Dad. Have a safe journey." I waved at him, smiling.

He got behind the wheel and drove away. He was already towering over me. He shoved the bag in my hand and shoved his hand in his pocket, taking out the key.

"Get in," He unlocked the car.

"You can't order me." I told him giving an irritated look.

He turned to me and looked down at me. "I'm telling you. "

"Yes, keep your attitude to yourself. No one can tell me. The new king." I huffed and moved to walk around it.

He extended his hand to stop me. "Don't." His brows crushed together.

"You saved me that night. Didn't you?" I asked, finally.

"Get in the car, princess." Opening the door he climbed into his car.

I stared at him. He was going to make my day worse. I stomped around the car and got in the passenger seat.

"Don't you have something to do instead of following me everywhere?" I said.

"Give me one." Igniting the car, he gestured at the paper bag in my hand and placed his cup in the cup holder.

He must be hungry. He wouldn't have gotten to eat anything last night, either. I opened the bag and held it for him.

He took out the sprinkles cupcake and took a large bite. "Um, They're good. Try one." He said,

I shoved my hand in the bag and took one out. "Don't act like we are friends." I faked irritation on my face. He wasn't that bad, he was trying to protect me. He has done this before. So, he knew what was attacking me.

"My nose is working more than properly." He said, inhaling.

I couldn't pretend until I wanted to be myself. I nibbled on it. "What's attacking me?" I asked.

"You'll be safe. That's all you need to know." He took another bite, finishing it. And crushed the paper in his hand

"His name should be cruel king." I muttered under my breath. What was his problem? Why couldn't he give me an answer instead of making me irked?

"I can hear you. Do you have a problem doing what you're told?" He asked, locking his jaw

"Yes, because I was born in a free world. You or anyone couldn't boss me." I told him.

"You belong to us, this world." He huffed.

"Keep thinking." I waved my hand.

He glared at me as he grasped the steering wheel.

"Look. I know you alpha love to rule. But I'm a fully human. I like it this way. I have no problem. I went to normal school. I have seen my brothers, and sister playing in their wolf forms, training. But it's not me."

"But you wanna be one of us." He snapped.

These wolf powers! "Yes, but my mother never allowed me."

"Do you?" His voice was soft and a whisper.

I didn't answer him. He could detect lies.

"Good to know." He smirked.

We didn't say a word during the ride to the academy. I squeezed my eyes. I should ask him to drop me a few steps before the academy. He's a popular boy, I shouldn't forget the king. Everyone is going to gawk at me nonstop. I shouldn't forget his biggest fan... Grace.

When he drove through the iron gate, he nodded his head as all bowed to him.

"Can they actually see you?" I forwarded, watching them through the windshield.

"Yes, werewolf eyes." He reminded me.

"Oh, yes. I forgot." I smiled and it dropped immediately. "Oh, no. Did you invite them here?"

"They are worried about you. Lance has to say something." He said, pulling the car over.

"Of course." I rolled my eyes and reached for the door. It already opened. I looked up and found Jasper staring down at me.

"We're not dating. Relax." I waited for him to step back.

"You just can't disappear." I heard him whispering.

"I can do whatever I want." I had to push him to climb down the car. Why do they have to humiliate me in front of the entire academy?

"No, you can't. You're just seventeen." My mother chided me.

My gaze drifted on them. My mother, Jace, and Jasper were looking pretty upset. They need to stop treating me like a child. "Yes, I can."

My mother forwarded her steps. I was ready to run away from her. Darkice stepped ahead, blocking her way. He just looked at her.

"She's my daughter." She told him. Was she giving him a reason to treat me the way she wanted?

"And it's a curse." I told her. I was fed up with her ways of controlling my things. She needed to stop this and let me breathe.

"Ember," Jace growled in a low voice.

"And I'm staying with Mother from today."

"You won't." Mom said.

I shrugged my shoulders. "If you're here to make my life difficult. Alright then. Challenge accepted." I turned on my heels. I needed to get away from them before I lost my mind

I need to find a part-time job. I'll rent a house. Sisily wouldn't help me. I could ask Aidan to help me. I couldn't live with so many bossy people around me. They wouldn't stop this. So, I have to go away.

The time passed quickly in classes. I didn't see her in classes nor did Aidan. I am getting worried now. My eyes swiped on every face. They weren't in the cafeteria. If they did something to them, I wouldn't forgive them for this.

"Looking for your friends?" I pursed my lips, hearing my mother behind me.

I turned to get out of here. I wasn't in the mood to argue, indeed I was scared that I would speak more than required that would put me in trouble. There was no one to save me this time. All would enjoy the show.

"Why did you go to the library yesterday?"

It halted me. They didn't tell them. Could it be? I wasn't expecting them to seal their lips.

"What did you do to them?" I asked. It felt like I was talking to a strange person. It was getting too much now.

"I'll do anything in my power to protect you." She lifted her hand to touch my cheek and I stepped back. Gloomy engulfed her.

"You're just making my life hell and taking my friends away wouldn't change a thing." I felt all eyes on us.

"Don't create a scene." She used her rude tone. "I'll talk to Queen Reina and you're coming home with me and completing your study in the academy with your sister. And your friends aren't helping you."

I headed out, ignoring all eyes on me and my suddenly turning evil mother. I didn't stop until I was in my maths class. It was empty.

Tears were burning in my eyes. I let them fall as I walked over to the usual desk I used to sit. I wasn't going to attend this class as she was going to teach us.

"I wasn't expecting you to come so soon." I spun hearing him. Tears were still running down. His eyes narrowed on my face and I saw his golden eyes turning bright red like burning fire. I was hallucinating. I blinked my eyes as I wiped them. They were glowing amber. "What happened to you?"

I shook my head and took my seat. Stupid tears slid down my eyes. I was alone one more time.

He towered over me and placed his hands on the desk. "I can help," he said in a promising voice.

"My friends," My throat choked. "I don't know where they are. I like it here. My mother is taking me home." I don't know why I told him this. But it feels relief.

"Why don't you talk to your father?" He snorted.

"No help. only daddy L can help me but Mother wouldn't let this happen." I used my code with him, hoping he would understand me.

He stared at me down as he was reading me. A female voice called my name and our heads turned to the door. Mother Kat smiled at me. "I was looking for you in the cafeteria."

I sobbed. "Mom took my friends away." I slithered the heel of my palm on my cheek.

His hands fisted on the desk, he straightened his back as she rushed toward me and took me in the ring of her arms. "Sisily is out with her grandfather. She left a message for you if you would have checked your phone."

I pulled my head back. "And Aidan?" I asked, hiccuping.

"Someone broke into his house last night. His neighbors called the cops. He took off today. They must have informed you." She gestured at my phone.

I lifted my phone and checked the display. There were missed calls from her and a message saying she was out with her grandfather to meet her late mother's distant relatives who showed up in the town randomly. Aidan also left a message describing his situation.

"Yes, they have." I nodded my head.

She wiped my cheeks. "I brought you sandwiches and salad. The class is going to start soon." She smiled down at me.

"But mom said she's taking me back home."

She rolled her eyes. "She was a little crazy from the day she was born, particularly when she desperately wanted something to happen."

I chuckled. "I can understand. sisters!"

She smiled and caressed my cheek. "I know why you went to the library. " she breathed heavily.

"Dad?" I started.

"No," She shook her head, cutting me off. "He loves you a lot. He would do anything for you. I just guessed it. I wasn't good with Emma in the beginning. She came into the academy as a student. I didn't know then that she was Carla's daughter. I..." She sighed deeply again. Tears pooled in her eyes.

"That's in the past. You would have adored her if you knew who she was." I told her.

Her eyes shone with unshed tears. "Carla can't take you away if you want to stay here. I might not have brought you into the world. But you're my daughter. We'll do as you want." She promised me.

Emotions clogged my throat. I couldn't utter a word. I nodded my head. She opened the box and a delicious smell of food filled my nose.

I looked around to see him as he liked sandwiches. It was only us. There was a secret, it was only between them. I wouldn't have noticed it until one day I sneaked into Dad's library. He put my favorite chocolate cookies under the last drawer of his desk in the library.

I was eight. I was feeling hungry. It was dark in the kitchen. So I headed to the library to grab some cookies. At my school, there was a girl adopted by her uncle after her parents death. I knew what adopted me. I saw the black file. All files were important to him. He always told me that I could see them but I couldn't destroy them. While eating cookies I began to read them. Though I couldn't understand big letters, I clearly saw them while reading adopted by Lancelot Dawson and Katherine Dawson. I didn't know why I was staying with my parents then if they had adopted me, they didn't want me to know. I have no wolf. But I don't agree with it. They love me.
