Chapter 124

Ch. 124 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

I snorted and flattened my lips to show my disapproval. I didn't want his help to feed myself. "I can do it myself." I muttered to myself, not intending to talk to him.

"Don't be a downer. I can scent the air around you." Drake murmured in my ear.

Yes! I'm a downer. He doesn't want a weak human mate who would die if she did not eat.

Darkice cleared his throat. Finally, I found his eyes elsewhere, on my brother. I knew this look on his face. They are talking in their heads.

I pushed myself out of my chair and got in the kitchen to help her.

But she was already on her heels to return to the table with two Tiffins. "I want it empty."

"I will." I kissed her cheek. "Thank you."

She giggled, placing them in my hand. I waved her goodbye as I shoved them in my backpack. I didn't want to create a scene. I shuffled out of the door.

"Get in the car, Syn." I heard him.

My feet paused on the ground. Did he give me a pet name? Hell! It feels so good. I turned to look at him. I swallowed still not believing that he's my mate and he rejected me last night. I didn't want to count him, taking them back.

"No," I spun sharply, not wanting to hear anything. I won't be strong next time. I broke into a run. It was a childish attempt to escape. I didn't work and he caught me by the arm.

He spun me to face him. "Are you still upset, mi corazón?" He gently brushed the back of his knuckles on my cheek. My stomach flipped.

I tried to say something but his gesture froze me. "Get in the car, Em. Or he's going to throw you over his shoulder and will carry you all the way to your first class. '' I was startled hearing a gleeful male voice. My head shoots to him. I didn't realize that my heart was drumming inside my chest.

Carlos grinned at me. He was wearing shorts and carrying the name Team King at the front.

I blinked suddenly feeling the strong need to speak. "Basketball?" I asked.

His grin broadened and he nodded. "Will see you two soon. Have a good day." He nodded at him and headed to his car.

He cleared his throat and my head swiveled to him. My gaze also swiped at the door. Mother was looking at me. I saw the smile on her face which I expected to see after telling her gleefully about my mate.

He's looking down at me. "You're so tall." I blurted.

He snorted. "Does it bother you?" He drew his face closer, fanning his mint breath.

Wao! I am reacting like a happy puppy around him.

"No!" I squeaked. The closeness is driving me to strangeness. Before I embarrassed myself, I nodded my head. "Let's go."

A sexy grin appeared on his face as he tugged me to his car. Mother waved at me. I blushed and waved back.

Ghosh! I was ready to bet that before turning eighteen I would die with so much happiness.

A soft growl left his chest. Looking at him, I found a soft crease on his forehead. He held the door open for me.

"It's just a five-minute walk." I muttered getting in. He influenced me. His words have already ruined yesterday. I am frightened about what would happen next if he would draw back after coming so close.

The sound of the closing door pulled me back out of my thoughts. I blinked in confusion. He put on his seatbelt. I didn't see him going around.

He motioned at the seatbelt. Hurriedly, I buckled myself. I caught his eyes staring at my stomach. My top was ridden a little up, showing my skin from the side. I couldn't dare to tug it back. I want him to look.

Gosh! What's wrong with me?

"I don't wanna get late." I told him.

He closed his eyes. "Yes, of course." He clenched the steering wheel before igniting the car.

He drove in silence. My eyes couldn't hold themselves from turning his way to his strong arms. The muscles of his arms bulge every time he clenches the wheel.

He pulled the car in. The time moved so fast. It felt like I just blinked and we reached. My eyes darted out of the windshield. The sight was forcing me to run back to my room. All were looking at me, only me. For them, I wasn't just two strong alphas' family members, two alphas' team members' sisters but also King's mate. Rejected mate.

The morning cool breeze blew on my side. My backpack was plucked from my lap. My eyes shot up to him.

His expression was soft as he was looking down at me, waiting for me to move.

Sighing deeply, I climbed down the car. I should start wearing heels like Silver and Elizabeth. I slid my hand into my pocket and took out my phone. I quickly jotted down a message and sent it to Mother.

"You don't need them." His arm came around me. An electric wave passed through my body when his fingertips brushed on my skin.

"Darkice," I whispered.

His golden eyes shone and the corners of his lips kicked up. Did I just say his name?

Instead of telling him to let me have my decisions, I said. "I'll manage. My friends must be waiting." I said

He looked up at the sun. Holy heck! He looked at it, directly. What was he? The king! No doubt. "You have fifteen minutes before your first class. You haven't eaten your breakfast." He said. His voice was low but I could hear him.

I stared at the display of my phone. "I don't know you can tell time just by staring at the sun. The sun?" My voice was laced with shock.

It made him smile. " Your friend is here. I'll see you in the class." He leaned in and brushed his warm lips on my cheek.

I froze on my ground in utter shock. Every part of my body was on fire.

He took my phone from my hand. My whole attention was on his soft pink lips. He walked around his car. My eyes were following him, without blinking.

"Did he just kiss you, Ember?" I heard the shocked voice of Sisily.

"I guess. His lips were warm and soft." I muttered.

His sexy grin returned on his face, his eyes shone bright amber as they swiped on me.

"I felt the same when Jace kissed me." she muttered, giggling.

My hand lifted to wave at him when he ignited the car. He nodded at me, still holding the grin.

I was still standing there waving at him. "I don't wanna know what my brother will do to you."

"Sorry, but I thought it would help the confusion."

"Yes, thank you. Aidan must be waiting for us." I spun to walk to the class. Still looking shocked, I headed to the giant arched entrance.

Aidan was pacing the floor looking tense, his fingers were rubbing his forehead. His feet halted at our sight and he frowned, striding quickly.

"What happened to you both?" His eyes darted on us. He was looking pretty confused

"Darkice kissed her." Sisily got in the chair.

"What? Was it that bad?" Aidan asked me, taking his gaze on my face.

My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I blinked, yanking myself out of the shock zone. I stared at him. "Why would you think so?" I flattened my lips.

"Sorry, students are saying things about you that he...." He trailed off, scratching the side of his head.

"That what?" I snorted and took the chair next to her.

"That he rejected you." She said, still not blinking.

"Thanks for being blunt." I gripped her shoulder and shook her. "But it's not true." I don't know why I was defending him but it felt good.

She shook her head. "Yes, Grace is just jealous of you. She's spreading lies about you." Sisily looked pretty angry saying it out loud. She darted her eyes on all faces.

"I can't talk here. Brothers want me to come to see them practice. Are you coming?" I asked.

"Yes, Jace is practicing, too." She blushed.

I hadn't seen nor talked to my brother. Sisily hasn't said a word about him instead of mentioning him in her happy talk. I knew they were giving me time. Now I was getting worried about him.

"Is he alright?" I asked.

She exhaled as she was waiting for this question to pop out of my mouth. " He's sorry for what he did that day. I hope you'll forgive him. "

I was upset but not angry with him. "I'll talk to him." I told her.

"Hey! I'm also here." Aidan slapped his hand on the table.

I arched my brows at him. Then I remembered. "Oh, I got you sandwiches." I unzipped my backpack and took out his tiffin.

Before I could extend my hand. He pawed at it happily. "You should tell such things before starting the conversation." He said and took out the sandwich and took a big bite. "Wao! This is heaven." He talked to himself.

We shared a look and giggled. I opened my own box and offered it to her first. She grabbed one and I picked one.

"Can I come to see practice with you two?" He asked, chewing.

"Sure," I said, shrugging my shoulders.

"But our mates, they don't like you." Sisily muttered.

I stopped chewing my food and glanced at her. "He's our friend. You can't say things like this." I told her.

"Don't bother, Ember. I know this. But they'll adjust around me when they'd be sure I mean no harm to their mates. It's their Wolf's nature. They're protective toward you." He said as he didn't stop eating.

I didn't think this way. Yes, my brothers and my family are very protective. My mother wanted to hire guards for me. Thanks to my brothers for understanding my discomfort.

The bell rang. Our classes have started. We gathered our things and headed to our first class.
