I was tired when I returned from my classes. If I removed Grace from my day. It was the best. Though, Darkice confused me more. He explained his reason later in the locker room. Though, he didn't need to.
A rap came on the door and it creaked open. "Hi, Kiddo. Are you up?" Jasper asked me.
I turned on my back and smiled at him. "Is Mother here to take me?" I asked.
He shook his head. "Talk to her. Then, come down the stairs." He motioned at my phone resting on the desk.
Prolonging my hand, I grabbed it and saw several calls and messages from my family. Exiting, I clicked on her number and hoisted it up.
"Hello, Mother."
"How was your first day?"
The question brought many memories from today. "Rollercoaster!" I giggled.
I heard her chuckle softly. "I got it. But I'm always here for you.''
" No doubt,"
"Well, I'm going to attend a fashion show with my beloved sister in Milan. Should I send the driver?"
"No, I have made friends... Sisily and Aidan. I'll be fine. And you shouldn't forget my overprotective brothers." I giggled
"I'm glad to know. I know, Sisily. Sweet child." I wanted to tell her that she's Jace's mate but it wasn't my place to tell her. "And your brothers, it's normal, dear. Don't take offense. Do you want me to purchase something for you?" She asked.
"Um, no. Enjoy yourself. I hope you'll gather a lot of stories to share with me after your visit." I remembered her telling me last year that a rising billionaire proposed to her. I wished to be there to see his face when she told him that she was happily married and a mother of three kids.
"Thank you, sweetie. Now." I understood that instructions were coming.
"I remember the rules. I won't go anywhere alone."
"Yes, and anything you need. I'm one call away"
"I know. Click a lot of pictures for my IG."
I heard her chuckle again. "Sure, kid." I heard the beep.
Shoving my phone in my pocket, I pushed myself on my feet. I turned to the mirror. I was still looking sleepy. Picking the hairbrush I combed my hair, raking my eyes on my face. I grabbed the notebook.
I headed to the door and took the stairs. Drake, Jace, and Jasper were waiting for me in the hall.
"You haven't talked to Mom," Jace asked, complaining.
I shrugged my shoulders. He could talk to her and tell whatever he liked. "Did you tell them about your mate?" I asked.
"Dad would have told them." Drake said.
"Mother didn't talk about it." I climbed down the remaining stairs. I glanced at the table. There was no preparation for dinner. "I'm hungry, you know." I told them.
Jasper arched his brow looking at my notebook. I was glad they weren't talking about what happened in my class and with Grace. "We're eating in the cafeteria." He slung his arm over my shoulder and tugged me out of the house.
"How was your first day, Kid?" Drake asked.
I wanted to run away from this conversation. "Alessandro would have installed you." I said.
"Yes, and about your human friend too." Jace snapped.
I flattened my lips. "The rude tone is because he's your mate's friend too." I said in the same tone.
"You don't know him." He stared at me.
"Will you and Mom ever let people be my friend? You have a lot of friends. I have..."
I was cut off. "You have us, Ember. Have you ever felt alone in our company?" Jasper asked.
They are my family, friends. They took care of me when our parents weren't home. They were doing it again. " No."
Jasper patted my shoulder. "If he's not a danger, he can be your friend."
I rolled my eyes. Being the youngest one irked me sometimes. I felt helpless. I couldn't even make the decision of my life. "He's already scared." I muttered.
"We want you to be safe, no matter if you're away from our sight." Drake told me.
"Alright," I nodded. I was always the weak point of the family. This could put the entire pack in trouble. I let the guards trail behind me in the school because my mother said someone could have kidnapped me. I had read some books for entertainment. It wouldn't be a good life to rely on someone completely. Your breathing would be dependent on their mercy, too.
"Whatever you're thinking. Stop this. We're half human, too." Jasper said, pulling me toward the cobblestone path. I like this place. It gives me a strange kind of peace. But I also couldn't shrug off the uneasy feeling.
I looked at him. "I thought you're a full wolf."
He chuckled. "We are. We used it around other supernatural creatures."
"Oh," I blinked my eyes unbelievably. I didn't know this.
We strolled in the cafeteria. The buzz of students stopped and all heads turned to us. My brothers walked in as they owned the place. I kept my eyes on the ground.
"Hey!" Sisily waved her hand at all forwarding her steps.
Jace opened his arm and took her in a bear hug. They drew their lips closer. I looked away immediately. I didn't need to see that.
"Ember.." The words died in his throat as he took his eyes on my brothers.
Jasper's arm tightened around my shoulder protectively. He just stared at him.
"A half-witch," Drake muttered coldly.
I blinked in confusion and darted my eyes around to see anyone but it was only us standing in the aisle. I opened my mouth to ask who.
"What do you mean?" Sisily asked, her brows pulled together as her eyes rested on Aidan.
"He hid his true self from you. Do you think we won't be around them?" Jace asked sharply.
"Did he bewitch us?" Sisily gasped.
"No, I won't ever do this to you and Ember," Aidan said. I saw honestly in his eyes.
"You lied to us. I don't trust you." Her eyes were moving from her mate to Aidan. Jace must be filling her with the information.
"No, yes, but it's not fully true." Aidan looked bewildered. "I'm from an infamous coven. No one wants to be my friend. It was only you two who didn't know about my family. It was easy to befriend you. I don't have any bad intentions. Please, trust me."
"You're not our friend anymore." She said angrily.
Aidan's face fell as sadness engulfed his features. I saw water shining in his eyes. He must be near my age.
It wasn't his fault. I could understand. I hit Sisily with the book on her arm.
Her shocked eyes turned to me. "Speak for yourself, girl." I forwarded my steps. Jasper would never let me go near any danger he let go his arm slip. He could sense his emotions. No witch or magic could make them do things against their will. "Here, your notes. I want them back in the morning."
"Y-you are not up-set with me?" He asked, tears ran down his cheeks. He wiped them immediately , his gaze was full of disbelief.
I shook my head. "You must have your reasons. I hope you'll tell me one day. And don't lie to me ever. You know my brothers."
His smile returned. He took me in a quick hug. "Thank you." He turned and broke into a run out of the cafeteria.
"You just forgave him?" She looked super shocked.
I looked at them. "She's not your mate. I can bet. She just jumped to conclusions."
Her eyes rounded. Jace grinned and kissed her lips. She looked relaxed and exhaled deeply.
I pursed my lips when Sisily kept glaring at Aidan. She said something I couldn't understand.
Aidan was looking at his hands on the desk, saying no word to angry Sisily. "I deserve this." He murmured sadly.
"Of course, you do. You haven't even apologized to me.'' She complained as she stopped walking.
" I'm sorry, Sis." I saw genuine hurt in his eyes.
"Will you please stop this? Everyone is staring at us." I grabbed her hand and pulled her down.
Sitting, she folded her arms over her chest and stared at me.
"Don't get angry with her. She's the kindest soul. She would forgive you if you tried to kill her." Aidan said.
Is he giving hints to the people who dislike me?
She gave her widened-eyes-look again. "Don't talk like this." She chided him, lowering her voice.
"Guys, I'm still here. I didn't understand a thing. A thing. " I huffed.
"I can read feelings and sense if the person is good or bad." He leaned over the desk as he whispered.
"Oh, I thought only werewolves could do this." I shrugged my shoulders.
"You're not getting this. He's a witch. Jace said his powers are strong. Only a powerful alpha could deter him from sensing his emotions, and feelings." Sisily explained.
"You won't harm us?" I asked. Everly has told me they aren't good.
"No..." A shadow fell over him. He stopped talking and lifted his chin.
I raised my gaze. " Henry, is Dad here?" I asked, looking behind him.
He shook his head. "No, Alpha Edward wants to see you. " he told Aidan.
My body tensed. If they were going to hurt him, I was going to stop them. I might have no powers but he's a good boy. I could sense it. "I'll come with you." I blurted, feeling my heart to race.
" Alpha said only Aidan." Henry said.
Nervously, I gazed at him. "I'll come with you." I asked him. He wouldn't go alone if didn't want to.
He shook his head and slung his backpack over his shoulder. "I'll see you in the class," He nodded at Henry to lead him the path.
"What could it be?" I saw him walking off with Henry. All eyes were on us and then turned to Henry and Aidan. I wasn't having a good-feeling about it.
"I don't know. Jace didn't tell me anything."
I pushed myself on my feet. "We can't leave him alone. I don't want him in trouble because he's our friend." I hardly knew them. But I already felt attached to them.
I was dreading after seeing Alphas behavior toward him yesterday. If they're planning to punish him because he tried to be my friend. I needed to be there for him. That must be my mother's plan. Why would he be any kinda threat to me when he was facing a lot of shit from his family and people.
"No use, I guess. We should wait for Aidan. They would hear us coming"
I sighed and tipped my face toward the clear blue sky. A faint hot breeze blew across my face. It felt like a caressing touch. I closed my eyes against it and a small smile spread on my lips
I felt a hand on my shoulder. I forced my eyes to open and looked at her. "We should go." She lifted her hand. Her wristwatch was facing me.
"Okay," I nodded.
He came into the class with a wide grin on his face. Sisily arched her eyebrows at me. I shrugged my shoulders.
He sat on the desk behind us, "It was a phone call from my mother. She's the only good person. I love her." His smile didn't disappear. First-year students aren't allowed to keep their phones.
I relaxed when I heard him. "Everyone loves their mother." I told him, matching his grin.
"I don't know. I never knew the love of the parent. But I love my grandpa and Daniel. They are my family." Her smile was matching ours but I couldn't neglect the pain and sadness in her eyes.
"My mother is gonna love you." I told her.
She nibbled on her lower lip. "I'm nervous. Jace hasn't talked to Carla and Charles yet."
"You shouldn't worry about it. They're gonna love you." My gaze was turning to the door. The professor hasn't come yet.
She drew her face closer. "You ain't getting it. I'm six years older than him."
I snorted. I never asked her age. It didn't make any sense. She was going to live a happy and long life after the ceremony.
"I don't see it as an issue." I told her. I straightened my back as the professor walked in. It was the end of our talk. Though, I could feel her tense next to me.
It was her place to think positive thoughts. I could only say or tell her. It's on her.
