I got on my feet but I couldn't move. I stared at his back in shock. I felt a soft touch on my arm. "Are you okay, Em?" Sisily asked.
"I brought you this. Do you want something else?" Aidan asked us.
"You don't need to do this, Aidan." Dejectedly, I slammed down.
"She doesn't look ok." Aidan got in his seat.
"What happened? You can share." Sisily muttered.
"You know what's happening?" I leaned closer.
"Everyone knows. The Alpha king and his betas are going to the Dark World. No one was injured. But we don't know what the future has in store for us." Aidan muttered, resting his arms on the table and he leaned forward.
"No one knows that, Aidan." She said.
"Ember," I turned, hearing my name. My smile broadened seeing him. "Dad," I jumped on my feet and embraced him.
"Congratulations," He kissed my head and patted my back.
"Thanks. I thought you'd come the next day, I didn't even see Mother." I complained.
"Because of the attack, the weather was extremely bad at most of the places." He said.
"Can you stop them?" I didn't need to explain.
He shook his head. "They're doing what's right." Daddy L shook his head.
"It could cost them their life." Tears pooled in Sisily's eyes.
"Don't say that. Your mate is part of the best team. You should be proud." Aidan said.
The bell rang and all the students got up to leave. I grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder. "I'll see you home." I told him.
"I'll send the driver." He nodded and turned on his heels.
"Are we going to waste this?" Aidan frowned, still stuffing his mouth with beans.
"I don't have the desire to attend the class." She grabbed the spoon after wiping her eyes.
I couldn't concentrate on the lecture either. Sighing, I sat down and tugged my plate closer to me. "I'm not exactly hungry."
"A little won't hunt you. They are worried." She said.
"They have bigger problems to face. Let's reduce this one first." He shoved the glass before me.
I flattened my lips. I shouldn't bother them unnecessarily. "True, " I said, lifting it up to my lips.
The food was delicious and I was actually hungry. It got my mind off what happened yesterday.
Someone cleared her throat. Our heads turned to him. I swallowed hard as my eyes lifted to him. My back straightened.
"Your class, now." Her lips were flattened after ordering us to leave.
Our chairs squeaked as we got on our feet still looking at her in shock and awe. The hall was empty and the silence was depressing.
I attacked my backpack and clung it to my stomach. I was about to turn. My heart was drumming in my ears.
"Not you, Miss Dawson." I heard her clearly.
I gulped in fear. That doesn't sound good. Doesn't she like me anymore? Yes, why would she like me now? Oh, God! Why did you trap me here?
Sisily looked at me. She wanted to stay. She opened her mouth but she couldn't utter a word after feeling Reina's gaze.
I nodded at her with a smile telling her that I would be fine. But I wasn't certain that I would be good alone with her. They headed toward our first class.
I looked over her shoulder. I was planning to run away. I didn't consider this for a second. This feeling is horrible.
" Follow me." She said, pacing toward the escaped path which was going to be my escape
"H-eadmistress," I muttered under my breath, forcing my feet to carry the order. My heart rate picked the race as I waited for her to say something.
"Emersyn," She said, politely.
"You're not angry with me." I asked, almost running after her to match her wolf speed.
"Why would I, Sweetheart? You're family now."
I glanced at her with round big eyes. I heard her clearly. She called me - family. "What is it? Do you want me to persuade him not to go to the Dark World? I tried. But he's not listening to me."
She opened the door of her office and pushed it wide, sauntering in first. She held it open for me.
I shuffled inside the office. I have been here before. But In her absence. I heard her clicking the door shut. Did she lock it? Why?
"W-hat happened? Headmistress?" I asked.
"Mama, or you'll address me mother from now." She said, smiling at me.
"If you're not upset with me for being his mate, then why am I here?" I asked, anxiously.
She sighed and took a seat behind the desk. "Emersyn, what I'm going to tell you. You have to keep it between us. You can't tell anyone, not even your friends and family, particularly to my son."
I peered at her for a long minute before nodding my head. "Is everything alright, Mama?" Strange! I didn't feel awkward addressing her mama.
She smiled at me. Her eyes shone with happiness. "You have to give me your words." She extended her hand.
I suppressed the little hesitation within me and extended my hand. When my fingers touched her palms, a white sparkle surrounded our hands. It was gone immediately. "What was that? " I asked. flabbergasted.
Her hand slid away as she got on her heels. She waved her hand in front of her eyes. I gasped seeing thousands of tiny white sparkling dancing around her.
When the sparkle died, I was looking at a beautiful woman. Her green eyes looked at me with affection and care. Her dress and Jewelry were shouting wealth. No designer could design such a beautiful dress.
"Wao! Are you Miss Universe? " I asked, slowly getting on my feet.
She smiled softly. "Have you read the book that Jace gave you?" She asked.
"A very little. I could tell the difference between the half ceremony and the full ceremony." I flashed a full smile hoping it would work.
She shook her head, her pink lips thinned in a flat line. "That's disappointing. It's going to take more time than necessary." She sighed heavily and made her chest rise and fall. "What do you know about Dastien and his mate?"
"That she was cursed. And they died." I said.
"Why did they die?" She asked, turning to me.
I shrugged my shoulders and smiled. "I don't know. Mom didn't tell me anything."
"Yes, Carla does that." Her lips flattened.
In the background, my head was asking unlimited questions. "Wait a second. You're a wolf. How could you do this, magic?" I asked, pointing at her gorgeous dress.
She flashed her full smile. "Nice start. Because, I'm not a shifter." She simply answered, slightly lifting her right shoulder.
I couldn't see her wings, or fangs. "What are you?" I shook my head. "But Darkice is the king. I thought your bloodline is..." I trailed off. I did not want to hurt her.
"Pure?" Her smile didn't slip away. "I'm a light wolf. Only male can shift." She said.
"But you can do magic." I told her.
"Because, I'm the queen."
"Like Dastien's mother?" I asked. My own questions were puzzling me. I needed to take it slow. She's Darkice's mother, she's a light wolf. They are a rare kind of wolf. And it's only found in the Dark realm. She must be from there. Yes, that makes sense.
"I'm Dastien's mother." She said.
My clear head clouded with many questions again. "You're Darkice's mother."
Smiling, she pointed at her desk. I followed it and her finger pointed at the photo. I grabbed it and turned it to see.
Thud! Thud! Thud! I couldn't believe my eyes. "I don't remember when I clicked this picture with Dark?" I asked and placed it back. It felt as if it was burning my fingers.
"It's not you and my son. It's my son Dastien and..." She trailed off.
"Emma, " I shouted.
"Let's make it clear." She said, nodding her head. There was a strange kind of sensation running down my skin. "In our world, once a king or queen is born. In the upcoming thousands of years, centuries, or I should say it's impossible to bear the next king or queen with the same faces until they are reborn or reincarnation."
I grabbed the picture again and stared at it again. "You said it's Dastien, not Darkice? What do you mean? He... Darkice looks like him as I look like my half-sister." My heart picked a race. It's not good. It would change everything. I pushed on my feet. I need to go away.
"You didn't hear me, Sweetie? I said... it's impossible to be born the next king or queen with the same faces until they're reborn or reincarnated."
I stumbled back. The frame fell from my grip. But I didn't hear it shattering. "I... I don't understand. It's confusing, I... I... I don't know what you are saying."
She sauntered forward and rested her hand on my shoulder. "Sit down, dear." I felt her guiding me to the chair.
I stared at her. "Did you curse her?"
"We're not going there. She did what she shouldn't." Her face contorted.
Strange! I wasn't going to take offense to anything from her. "What was that?" I snorted.
"Emersyn, you'll get answers from the book. Let's not waste the time." She took the next chair and turned to face me.
"I'm not getting a single thing." I told her. Though, I was getting it but I didn't want to.
"You didn't die that day. I mean you died but not exactly."
"I'm not Emma." I told her. Everyone needed to stop doing this to me. I didn't know how she put Darkice's picture there with me.
"After your eighteenth birthday, things will change but very slowly for you." She breathed out, looking tense. " Darkice is turning twenty-one. He has gained his powers but after his birthday things will change fully he'll remember his past life, you, your curse, everything."
"Are you bothered about the curse part? " I snorted, not trusting anything.
"Emersyn, hear me out carefully."
"Or you'll curse me again?" I laughed. A big part of me was scared too.
Exasperatedly, she waved her hand and the same book that Jace gifted me appeared in front of us. She waved her fingers in the air. The book opened, and the pages began to turn itself. Now she was frightening me.
"Read," She gestured with her eyes at the page.
I had started to feel sick to my stomach. I was trying hard not to get on my feet and ran away from her office without looking back.
Forwarding, I leaned over the book. My eyes darted on the highlighted letters. When I was done with the reading, my big eyes turned to her. She wasn't kidding. It was clearly written what she told me about the reborn thing.
"I'm not my half-sister." I said, gulping.
"Carla's mother was related to the light wolf. Only a light wolf could give birth to the King's mate. It's simple. Did you understand me?" She asked.
"I guess." I needed to repeat the information again and again in my head until I comprehend it.
"I used a little part of my power that helped me to reborn my sons. And our ancestors wanted it too. It made it easy."
" Why would they want it when they killed them?" It was just a guess of what Everly told me. My sister's mention brought another thing to my head. "Oh goodness! She's...."
"Mated," She nodded sadly. "Which shouldn't be."
My brows snapped together. "What do you mean? You said, sons. He must be your son."
"Yes. But you shouldn't forget she's seventeen."
I gulped realizing the depth of her words. "Are they in trouble?"
"No, wolves could complete their mating ceremony after sixteen at any time. But this shouldn't happen."
"Our law doesn't deny that... you know after sixteen. Compared to humans we are strong and our growth speed is faster than theirs. My sister gained it according to the rules. She was fourteen when she looked like a grown woman. I was the only one, who was a fourteen-year-old kid in the family. That's why they still called me kiddo." I complained to myself. "She's a wolf. Ancestors wouldn't punish her?" I asked, worrying.
"They won't as they didn't break any law but there are things I couldn't explain until you turn eighteen or you read the book."
"Better I should read it then. I'm not getting a thing." I got on my feet. I wanted to run away from her office.
"Alright," She said after thinking for a second.
I let out a sigh of relief. I turned to her. "She won't get punished. She's not human like me." She needed to give me true words.
"She won't. But you can't do that."
My skin heated and I turned on my heels. "I'm not planning to." I hurried ahead.
"Emersyn." She said, softly.
"Yes, mama." when I turned she was already standing behind me.
I flinched and jerked back. My back hit the door. I opened my mouth but her smile halted me. She kissed my head. "You're often going to see his real eyes."
"Forest green?" I muttered, I recalled them in my head. They're the most gorgeous eyes I've ever seen.
She nodded. "And a lot of new things," she said.
"I got it. Thanks. I should go to my class."
"You can take leave. He would like to spend his day with you before leaving."
"Then it's final?" I asked, sadly.
"Yes. You shouldn't be worried. Dark Realm is his home."
Nodding, I whirled and twisted the knob. Opening, I stepped out. The hallway was empty.
I dragged my feet out without looking up. Her voice was still echoing in my head. Was my mother the only one with Light wolf blood in her veins? To be assured, I needed to read the book. Now, that was the only source of my questions. I couldn't talk to Darkice. I could not ask him a thing about it. He was looking furious when I mentioned his green eyes. But I could clear my doubts just right away. I don't wanna believe that I'm Emma.
I took out my phone from my backpack and rapidly ran my fingers on it. I lifted it up to my ear. Patience wasn't my thing right now. It was ringing. ''Pick it up!''
"Wao! You look angry."
"Answer the video call." I drew it back in front of me and clicked on it.
Thankfully, she answered it immediately. "What's gotten into you, Em?" My demand made her lose her small smile.
"Where's your mate?" I asked without beating about buses.
Her big eyes peeled away from the camera to her side. He was around her.
"Give your phone to him."
My heart was beating at double the rate. I bit my tongue hard and tasted my blood. Every hair on my body stood up when I saw a familiar face staring at me. Was every word out of her mouth the truth? He's her second son. Is my mate truly Dastien? No! I'm not my half-sister.
I tapped harshly on the red icon and began to run out of the building. Why did it happen today? He's going away. God knows how many days I won't see him.
