My thoughts banished my focus. Irked, I put the book down. Eamonn didn't return after saving me. I let myself sink in the sleep hoping to see some miracle. But I'm still here. no one has come to rescue me. I contemplated helping myself.
My heart began to beat when I thought of reaching him in my head. "Darkice," I whispered. I waited but there was silence from the other side. I was also bound to the oath with Mama. I can't sit here. "Dastien," I whispered.
I was getting impatient. Closing my eyes, I rested my head on the pillow. It felt as if I was actually my parents' princess after being in this room. The walls were cream shaded almost yellow, and red, a giant hearth and a queen size bed with four pools around it. The pillows were also bigger in size, red carpet. A lone tear slid down my cheek.
'Are you okay, Syn?' My eyes flew open, I jerked in a sitting position.
"You have to tell me the path so I can go home. I don't like to be here. Everyone must be wondering where I went." More tears rolled down
'You're safe. I told them.'
" Safe?" I squealed in shock. The door cracked open.
I looked at it with round eyes in fear. Brandan peered in, his brows were crushed together in confusion as his dark eyes darted around.
'You're scared.'
"I thought it's him." I muttered.
His head snapped at me. A deep crease formed on his forehead as he stared at me.
"There's no one, Queen."
"I'm talking to my mate in my head."
His gaze turned suspicious. "That's not how we talk to our mate." He took a step forward
Dreading, I got up, my eyes were fixed on his feet if he thought to attack me. I'll get a few seconds to move.
'Who's around you? '
"Brandan. Eamonn's Gamma." I trailed off, wanting him to not hear me.
His eyes narrowed on me. He took another step with a cold expression. His eyes widened with another step and he was deterred. After a small minute. he bowed his head and went out of the chamber, closing the giant door behind him.
"What did you do to him?" I spoke under my breath. He was looking scared of something.
'You should start to speak in your head.'
" It's not the place to learn but tell me how I can run away from here."
'Syn, try to speak in your head.'
I sighed heavily and closed my eyes. 'hello, can you hear me?'
'Better.'
'Am I really eighteen now?' I asked, chewing on my lower lip. Unshed tears pierced in my eyes.
'Yes, it was the only way. Our bond will protect you.'
'Can't you guide me out of here? I don't wanna stay here. I'm missing everyone. I haven't seen you. It has been days.' Tears ran down my cheeks. I wasn't powerful enough to keep the unknown kidnapper away from me. I have not seen him but he gives me negative vibes. I didn't know the whole story.
'He's my uncle. Powerful than my father. But my mother rejected him. I thought he was dead but he was creating an army and plotting everything before my birth.'
I have read in the book that the future queen always selects one mate from the twin and the selected one is crowned to be the king. The previous queen could always change the decision if the king isn't strong enough to keep the kingdom safe.
'Are you certain it's your uncle? I haven't seen him or anyone from him.' It was silence from him. I wasn't getting an answer. I wanted to know the most nagging thing. 'You didn't hear me when I said Arthur but Dastien.'
'You're free from your oath.'
I didn't realize that if I turned eighteen he wasn't twenty anymore. "You got your memories?" I shouted out loud.
'Yes,'
'I'm sorry.' I apologized, realizing that I shouted out again. 'If what mama told was the truth. my memories are the same.'
'You're safe there. Tomorrow , I'll reach the premises of the dark world. You'll be back with your family.' I felt his uncertainty.
Sadness grew inside me. It was goodbye for now. If he remembered everything, he would want me to stay with him. I opened my palm and looked at the mark. He has already marked me his. I could only hope to see my family often.
'Okay, come soon. This place is eating me.' I would have praised this beautiful palace if I would have come here under different circumstances.
Panic bled through me when I felt silence from his side. I didn't know how this mind link works. It has particular timing or it's available for twenty-four hours. I am relieved that I could feel him with me. I wasn't completely alone.
I laid my back on the softest mattress and closed my eyes, believing his words that our bond will protect me in my sleep.
My sleep broke hearing the crack of the door. My neck craned as I stared at the door.
"Hi, Emersyn. I brought us food." He said, peering in.
I pushed myself into a sitting position and smiled at him. "It has been one year. I haven't eaten anything." I joked.
He smiled and nodded. "True, can I come in?" He asked.
"Sure," I pushed myself back making room for him.
He placed the silver tray in front of me sitting. "We don't have an eating place here. Usually, I eat in the kitchen."
"We can go there." I told him.
He held his hand out. " No, It's totally fine."
"Alright," I stared down at the silver utensils. This is really a palace and he is truly a king. I was anxious and worried about my family. Would they have felt it too? Or have they been waiting for me, looking for me for a year? "Do you have a phone? I need to call my father."
"Only father? Not parents?" He asked, arcing his brows.
"My mother has a lot of kids. But Daddy L, he must be anxious and depressed." I told him, without explaining the code thing.
"Your brother has informed him that you're fine. They're alphas. They..." I cut him off.
"They must be planning to ambush," I muttered.
"That too. It's going to be a furious one. First, we have to get you safely out of this place first." He said, thoughtfully. A smile remained on his face permanently. He wants it.
"So, you don't have a phone." I said, sighing.
He laughed. "Yes, I don't use one. I never got the feeling to use it." He paused, clearing his throat. "This place is beautiful but only in Father and Dastien's eyes. They love dark."
I don't mind gathering information. "What's going to happen?" I asked him, I felt a crawling sensation under my skin. I wanted to run away from this place. It's going to eat me up.
"They're powerful. It's going to be a disaster. I hope we will find a simple way to end this. I don't want innocent killing." I could see gloom shine in his eyes.
"There's a simple way, son. He could give me what I want." I gulped, hearing a deep, heavy voice again. He must be his father.
His calm expression was far gone hearing his father. He turned with a murderous look on his face. "You're not invited here." He snapped, growling.
His father smiled. He wasn't looking much older than Eamonn. He was muscular with broad shoulders, his dark hair matching the color of his dark eyes, warning the beholder to keep distance and clearly describing him as dangerous. If he wouldn't be a bad person, I would have called him nice or perhaps handsome too. He was tall like Dastien. He reminded me of him. Dastien has the same nose and height too.
I stayed frozen in my seat frightened. My eyes were following him. I was ready to make a hole in the wall and jumped out of it. I didn't want him around me. I don't know what he wants.
His eyes rested on me. A shiver glided down my spine. Fear gripped my bones. "How did he do this? You let him control your body. How?" He strode forward. His gaze filled with wonder.
I flinched feeling the heat and shot on my feet to run away from him.
Eamonn put himself between us. "Stay away from her. She's not yours. Let her go. You can have this place for yourself."
He glanced at his son with a bright smile. But I also saw confusion in his eyes. "I'm living like a king of the entire realm or I'll prefer to die." His voice, and his posture were confident.
"Then happy dying. Leave!" He turned to me. "Sit down, sister-in-law." He softened his voice and expression.
I gulped as he looked at me. I shifted on my feet, hiding his view. I fisted my shivering hands.
"He's gone. He can't touch you, remember?" he asked.
" Yes, " I wasn't relieved but more scared now. I felt hunger in his eyes. It wasn't the hunger to have me as his mate but for something else. Something very rare. He could do anything for this. "We should really find a way to get out of here. If you have a phone I could call my family. They will be here soon. My mate can't be here. He's... in the Dark Realm." I told him. I also noticed uneasiness in his body language.
"You're in the Dark Realm, too." He dropped the bomb on me. My jaw dropped to the ground as I stared at him with round shocked eyes. I shuddered when it seeped in. Goosebumps rose across my arm.
"I can't stay here." This place has given me nightmares. I didn't want to be in this nightmare again. My body was shivering as I began to pace aimlessly. Or am I trapped in another nightmare? Eamonn did it before. He could betray again. Trusting him could be the death of mine or something worse, a war.
"Emersyn," he stopped me by holding me by arm and stared into my eyes. "He's coming. He could feel you. You need to calm down." He said.
I was understanding but I didn't want to understand anything. "I wanna go away from this place." I told him with tears.
"Ok, two days. if Dastien couldn't make it here. We'll find a way out."
"I won't be able to sleep. Do you understand? He's not interested in me. All he wants is power, the throne. But to get there he could cross any limit. Are you getting me? It's not just a throne but something else too. I couldn't decipher. " I said.
He nodded and took steps back. Raising his hand up in the air, he cast a bubble around me. Terror gripped me. A dark transparent bubble encircled us. "I'm creating this one around your room too. There's nothing to worry about. He can't come in." It doesn't feel good. More than his father, he's scaring me.
"You're kidding me. He's powerful." I told.
"Yes, but he's not the king." He told me and turned to the door without eating.
Wrong! A king will always be a king. With or without the throne.
My eyes darted around. The color changes to waves of water. I felt bad for him. He was trying to do the right thing. I couldn't wait for two days. I need to get out of here. "What if he..." My throat tightened. I couldn't dare to bring it on my tongue.
"You're already someone's mate. It's a crime. Ancestors would never forgive him for such a crime." He said, walking out.
I couldn't sleep. I was dreading that he would walk into my room at any time. The bubbles couldn't push away the fear.
I was just staring at the walls. The food was untouched. Eamonn didn't return to say goodbye before going to his chamber.
'Syn! Go to sleep. No harm would come to you.'
I opened my mouth to argue but I felt drawn to his
words and my eyes got heavy with sleep. It didn't take me much time to drift off.
