Playboy Alpha and His Contract Mate

Chapter 68

Ch. 68 / 102 Jan 23, 2026

Chill ran down my spine. I gasped and pulled out of my bedsheets. Cena was dead?" I stammered, my mind struggling to process the implications. "How? What happened?"

His gaze held mine, and there was a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. "They say he was poisoned this morning. I don't know the details, but we need to act fast. If he's truly gone, your mother is in immediate danger," He warned.

"Poisoned?" I repeated, my mind racing to connect the dots. Fear gripped me as I considered the possibility that my actions had inadvertently led to his demise.

Jason's expression softened as though he sensed the fear within me. "Amaya, we need to save your mother. Whatever happened to Cena, we cannot change it now. But we can still ensure your mother's safety."

I covered my mouth as tears streamed down my face. I caused this. I killed the guy who always loved me. I regret coming to this world, and I couldn't help the turmoil in my system right now.

"This is not the time to cry, Amaya. Let's act fast. Remember no one knows I am around. And you need me to save your mother," Jason advised me. I cleaned the tears on my face.

"You are right. We need to move quickly." I struggled to say.

He extended a hand, and I took it. He looked into my eyes, and said, "We can do it, Amaya. Remember who you are," He encouraged. I stood up on the bed and followed him out of my room.

Jason covered his body with the veil, and I was also disguised in a black dress. Then we sneaked up to the prison. We moved with calculated precision, studying the prison's layout. We caught a guard and threatened him to lead us through hidden parts of the prison, and the guard led us through hidden passages and overlooked corridors.

The guard turned to us, his expression serious. "Please let us part ways here. I will create a diversion to draw the guards away. Use this opportunity to reach your mother."

I nodded in gratitude, acknowledging the risk he was taking to aid our cause even as we had forced him. As he disappeared, Jason and I pressed forward, our footsteps clicking the ground in seconds.

As we neared the section of the prison where my mother was held, tension arose inside of me as I didn't know what might happen next, but Jason encouraged me.

The first challenge emerged as we approached a junction where two guards stood, and their attention was focused on our path. Jason signaled for me to stay back, and with silent grace, he approached them from behind. In a swift and coordinated move, he shut them down without raising an alarm.

I moved forward cautiously, my senses heightened. The prison's harsh reality seemed to intensify with every step. Jason and I continued to tiptoe in the direction of my mother. Jason's gaze was focused as we approached a particular cell door. My heart raced as he surveyed the area, ensuring that nobody was coming. The guard had provided us with a key card, a precious tool that could unlock the fortified barrier separating my mother from freedom.

As Jason swiped the key card, the cell door swung open. I rushed in, my eyes scanning the confined space until I found my mother.

"Mum!" I called out in a hushed tone, rushing to her side.

"Amaya, what happened? What are you doing here? How do you manage to get here?" My mum rained questions on me. I turned to Jason, and our gazes met alongside my mother." Jason helped me!" I said. My mother rolled her eyes disgustingly at him, but he didn't mind.

"This is not the time for that, Florida. We need to get the hell out of this place before they find us!" Jason said and offered my mother a hand. My mother looked into my eyes. I nodded, and she stretched forth her hand too. He helped her up, and we sneaked out of the prison.

We ran harder into the woods, breathing heavily as we halted in a small cabin. My mother was still adjusting to the sudden freedom as she was yet to understand what exactly was going on. She looked at me in curiosity, and asked.

"What's happening?" She asked, yet her voice was laced with gratitude.

"It's a tragedy," I began, the words carrying a burden I could no longer bear alone. "Cena... Is dead."

My mother's eyes widened with a mixture of shock and sorrow. "Dead? How? What happened?"

I hesitated, my body quivering as the truth pressed upon me. "I... I gave him a drug. A cure. But it didn't work as expected. He was poisoned, and I fear it's because of what I did."

"What? Why would you do that?" My mum asked, her voice lethal.

Jason, who had been silent, studied my face with a furrowed brow, his mouth opened in surprise and asked, "You tried to save him. How could you have known?"

"I just wanted to save him to give him a chance at a better life, and to also free my mum. Now he is gone, and I can't shake the feeling that I played a part in his death," I said with tears all over my face.

"You did everything you could. We are here now, and we need to focus on the future. Your mother is free, and that is what matters."

My mother nodded in agreement, her gaze unwavering. "Jason is right, Amaya. We can't change the past, but we can shape our future. What happened to Cena was beyond your control."

Jason gestured toward the moonlit path ahead, and said, "We need to keep moving. We are not out of danger yet." We stood up, and resumed running deeper into the woods.
