I bent my head downward and shrugged as the proprietor walked up to us. However, Cena could not compose his exterior.
"Good day, Sir!" We bowed our heads and gritted as though we hadn't heard anything they had been saying. The proprietor moved a bit closer to us and tapped Jeremy on his shoulder.
"What's that you heard, Jeremy?" He asked Jeremy, Cena at his back, and tension in the air. Jeremy sighed and took a deep breath.
"I didn't hear anything, Sir. I was just hear with Amaya!" Jeremy lied, rolling his head at me for affirmation, and I nodded my head at me.
The proprietor spared us some glances, having a full doubt that we did not hear all that he said. "Well, if you say so. I and Cena were also talking about how our school would take a trophy this year. And that would make me applaud you again, Amaya, for your support, and the honor you have instilled into the school."
"It's nothing, Sir. All my pleasure!" I responded to him, and he spread some smiles. Cena's eyes met with mine. He replaced his guilty face with a fake smile. The proprietor talked more about the next contest, and what we needed to do, and walked away from us.
We watched him as he walked away from us with his hands in his pocket. The moment Cena saw that the proprietor had gone out of view, he rushed up to me, panic in his voice.
"I am sorry, Amaya! I didn't mean my words!" Cena's voice screeched like that of the microphone.
Cena continued, "I do love you, Amaya, please hear me out."
"Keep quiet, Cena. We just heard you saying you did not love her!" Jeremy confronted him, gritting his teeth begrudgingly.
"Can we calm down and settle this?" Cena asked, taking a few steps to my front. Cena's eyes withheld nervousness and confusion. He seemed to be hiding something from us. Cena looked like the person who truly loved me even though I had heard him denying the fact in the presence of the proprietor. Cena must have been covering up his feelings for the proprietor so as not to terminate his work with him.
I signaled to Jeremy to give him a chance to talk or explain himself, but Jeremy didn't want to hear anything from him. Jeremy saw this as a great opportunity to kick out Cena as part of the guys who were struggling with him to get me. "Let's hear him out, airhead! He's also a problem solver like you," I sneered at Jeremy.
He rolled his eyes at me. "Whatever!!"
We wedged in between a corridor, and we started talking. "You did not tell me all these days that you are sent by the school proprietor. Tell me all the care you have shown to me was to unlock my abilities!"
Cena swallowed, he and Jeremy now sparing each other funny glances. "Must you be here before I talk?" Cena gritted his teeth and asked Jeremy.
"Why not? I need to hear all the lies you got, buddy!" Jeremy responded to him.
"I am sorry, you have to leave, Jeremy" Cena interjected. I rolled my eyes at Jeremy, he smirked and walked away, but not without leaving a loud hiss in the air.
Just as Jeremy left, Cena drew nearer to me, and said, "I am an orphan, Amaya. I grew up in the mud, hustling and searching for food with my fellow friends when the proprietor came and chose me as one of his adopted sons," he said, and raised his head a little in guilt. I unconsciously took a few steps back, hearing that from him. So Cena was an adopted child of the school proprietor, yet, nobody knew.
"He gave me some money to make you find your abilities so that you could be of use to him, but ever since the very first time I saw you, I have been having sleepless nights, Amaya. I love you and I mean it," Cena said, his eyes alluring.
"Can I know who Nikki is?" I threw the question at him. His eyes widened in surprise. "Did you also hear that, Amaya?" He asked, his mouth opened.
"Answer my question, Cena. Who is that girl and how does her life affect mine?" I asked him.
Cena sighed his eyes widened the more. He seemed not willing to talk a dime about the question I asked him. "Amaya, I don't think this is necessary at this point." He tabled before me.
"Cena, who is that girl? I needed to know who the hell she was!" I yelled at him, Jeremy peeped from a corner, but I caught him. I flung a finger at him, and he reluctantly returned his steps backward.
"She was found by the proprietor when she was small!" Cena began, his words piercing through the moment.
"Wait a minute, she was found by the school proprietor?!" I said to him and quickly flashed back my memory to what Jeremy said about her. If Nikki was my father's hidden legitimate daughter, how come on earth did the proprietor find her when she was small?
"Yes, Amaya. She was found by the school proprietor. She can bend water and fire." Cena unleashed a very shocking update.
"What? She is stronger than I do and yet nobody heard about her!" I wide-eyed, and said to him worrisomely.
"The school proprietor hid her in a far place. I have only met her once," Cena said, and quickly added.
"Please, let's forget about this for now, Amaya. What we need to do is to stop these two strong men who are preparing to launch attacks!" Cena advised. I put one of my fingers in my mouth and thought of what could be going on. My so-called father, Alex, wanted me by all means to fight beside him. So also, the school proprietor was looking for means to make sure I was for him. Or was he comparing my ability with that girl called Nikki?
According to what I have heard so far from Cena: if they were true, then, that girl called Nikki must be strong, a rare gift under the moon. If Nikki joined the proprietor, I was sure my father would be defeated.
"Why did you call for settlement, Cena? The proprietor paid you already. Are you going to betray him?" I asked him.
"Your father saved me, Amaya. When I was poisoned by your mother, I was half dead, but your father saved me. Your father is a good man, and I can't betray him after he did all these for me," Cena reasoned well with me.
We talked more about how the school proprietor brought him out of the mud and how he had been a tool for the proprietor in the time past. From what I and Cena had discussed, the school proprietor was on the same mission as my father. This duo of powerful men is struggling to fight other packs and make them serve under them. My father was a rogue in the forest who had some stronger men already and was asking me as an ability bearer to join him while the proprietor gathered stronger vessels too who would fight alongside him.
"The school proprietor called for you, Cena!" A young girl walked up to us and said.
"Tell him I will be with him soon!" Cena responded, and she walked away.
"Amaya, I think we need to talk more about this later," Cena said, took a step forward, and turned back to me,
"That airhead must not know anything about what I just told you, Amaya. It's a secret!" He warned and walked away while Jeremy walked out of the corner to where I was.
I was not going to tell Jeremy about what he just revealed till the truth was unwrapped. The dudes had different information about that girl called Nikki.
"Good at peeping on people's conversations?" I rolled my eyes unobtrusively as Jeremy walked out to me.
"Whatever! What did he say?" Jeremy questioned, looking at me expectantly.
"Why did you want to know, Jeremy? Have you forgotten we are now enemies?" I remembered him, his face grew in jealousy.
"Oh! That's true. Thanks for reminding me. I have not still forgotten the fact that I would kick your father's ass!" Jeremy gritted his teeth and said daringly.
"Oh, I see. You are lucky I saved you the other time. You may not be that lucky the next time!" I said to him and walked out of his face.
