Chapter 78

Ch. 78 / 102 Jan 23, 2026

The Third Person’s POV

Amaya slowly regained her consciousness. However, the gratin sounds of distant arguments reached her ears, and as her senses sharpened, she realized that her parents-Alex and Florida-were engaged in a heated moment.

"If anything happens to my daughter, you are doomed, Alex!" Florida's voice resounded with anger.

"How dare you shout at me?" Alex's response carried power and his tone was defensive.

As Amaya struggled to sit up on the bed, the world around her seemed to rotate like a pendulum. The argument between her parents blossomed, each word contrasting starkly with the attack."You brought danger to our doorstep, and now Amaya has paid the price. I won't let this happen again," Florida said, her eyes ablaze with fury.

"I am doing what I think is necessary to protect our family. These people from our past won't stop until they get what they want," Alex responded with a bold voice, his expression a mixture of regret and resolve.

Amaya stretched forth her hand and felt her burnt face with her palm. Nonetheless, she sat and watched her parents, the conflicting emotions between them, and thus, left her bewildered.

"Enough!" Amaya's voice cut through the argument, her tone a plea for understanding. Both parents turned to her, their faces worn with concern as they rushed to her side.

"Amaya, my baby," Florida's eyes softened as she embraced her daughter, tears streaming down her face.

"Are you alright?" Alex's voice, laden with guilt, held a note of desperation. Amaya nodded weakly, her gaze shifting between her conflicted parents.

"Stop this," Amaya urged her parents. "Mum, we are a family, and we need to face whatever challenges come together."

Alex moved to Amaya on her bed with pity in his eyes. He sat beside Amaya on the bed and said, "The packs have started fighting against me. Most especially your school proprietor. I would make sure I kill him," Alex declared, his eyes featuring danger. Amaya was about to speak when Jeremy burst into the hospital room, his face contorted with rage.

"You sent that Nikki to kill Amaya. You want to kill her the way you killed my mum, don't you?" he accused, his voice sharp with accusation.

"You are very stupid!" Alex yelled, and in an instant, he grabbed Jeremy, pinning him forcefully against the wall while Jeremy struggled to let go.

"Stop! Both of you, stop!" Amaya pleaded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and frustration.

Jeremy, pinned against the wall, yelled back at Alex, and said, "You will not get away with this. Amaya deserves to know the truth, and I won't let you manipulate her as you did with Nikki,"

Alex, his grip tightening, seethed with suppressed anger, spoke,

"You know nothing about what I had to do to protect our kind. Sacrifices are necessary, and you are in no position to judge me."

Jeremy fired back, making the hospital room become a battleground of words and emotions.

"Enough!" Amaya exclaimed, her voice cutting through the heated moments. "I need the truth. Dad, what is this about killing the school proprietor, and what happened to Jeremy's mum?"

Alex still holding Jeremy against the wall, hesitated before responding. "The school proprietor is a threat to our kind. He's been plotting against us. As for Jeremy's mum, she got involved in something she shouldn't have. It was an unfortunate consequence."

Jeremy's eyes blazed with a mixture of anger and pain. "You are justifying murder? Is that the kind of leader you want to be?"

Alex released his grip, and Jeremy stumbled backward.

"Mind your choice of words, Jeremy. Don't make me kill you!" Alex warned Jeremy.

"You can kill me, Alex. All I know is that I will make sure I revenge the death of my mum!" Jeremy said and walked out of the place.

The hospital room was suddenly filled with the unexpected entrance of the school proprietor. He walked in with pride, clapping hands for Alex.

"My long-time friend!" he greeted Alex, the two locking eyes in a confrontation.

"Hey, coward! Why don't you come yourself? Why send Nikki to me?" Alex challenged and his voice laced with boldness."Nikki is a capable representative of our cause. I have other matters to attend to, as you well know," The proprietor said.

Alex scoffed, and responded, "Your cause? Your hidden agendas have always been a threat to our kind. It ends now," he declared, a simmering anger burning in his eyes.

The school proprietor took a step back, his expression shifting, and said,

"You always were a stubborn one, my friend. But this is bigger than our conflict. It is about the survival of our kind."

"Survival? What are you talking about?" Amaya interjected in confusion.

The school proprietor turned his attention to Amaya and spoke a veiled smile playing on his lips. "How is your health, Amaya? Be prepared for the next sports contest," he said, his tone suggestive of a hidden challenge.

"And she's not going," Alex asserted.

The school proprietor chuckled, arrogance in his voice. "You can't shelter her forever, Alex. The contest is an opportunity for our kind to prove our strength. She has the potential to be a beacon for our cause."

"Fuck you, idiot! My daughter is not partaking in the contest and that's final!" Alex blew hot, nose to nose with the school proprietor.
