His grin was of pure happiness as he looked down at the twin newborn baby girls. "I can never forget the time when my daughter was born." Emotions coated Alpha's voice. His eyes turned glassy.
Her smile faded a little. She glanced at her babies draped in a white soft cloth. One of them was also wrapped with a small warm blanket. The left one was fisting her hands in the air, grasping a toothless smile on her angelic face. "She's a wolf. A strong one, Lance." Her voice was painful recalling her dead girl. Her amber eyes lifted up and met with her husband. They shared a concerned look. Her second baby was sleeping. She was the younger one. Her eyes turned to her babies and she brushed her fingers on their heads one by one. It lingered longer on the younger one.
Charles rested his hand on her shoulder. Her forehead was covered with sweat. It has been more than an hour since she brought two lives into this world. She was worried about her younger one. 'She's sleeping.' he told her softly in her head.
"She's looking weak." Her eyes darted on them. She hated it but her eyes couldn't stop comparing them.
"No!" Lance leaned forward and delicately scooped the sleeping baby in his arms. "My Emersyn is a healthy child. She'll grow up with no curse." He kissed her head.
"She's so small, Lance. Look at Evangeline." Carla said she wasn't ready to part from her. She understood that Lance was spending days in guilt. He wanted to see his late daughter grow and spend more time with her.
"We're not heartless, Carla." Katherine frowned at her sister. She leaned over the giggling baby and curled her smaller fist with her index finger and thumb and smiled at her. "Evangeline, do you like this name, sweetie." She cooed.
"It's a lovely name." Carla and Charles agreed, nodding.
"I won't take her away, but she's spending weekends with me. Are you okay with it, Carla?" Lance asked, not looking away from the baby.
Her face brightened up. "Yes! Yes!" She said enthusiastically.
Charles and Lance chuckled. He sat on the couch taking her with him.
"She'll be a fashion designer like us. Right, Carla?" Katherine beamed at her sister as she sat next to her.
Carla brushed her fingers on her forehead. Evangeline glanced at her with her amber eyes. "I'm scared, Kat." She murmured, grabbing their attention.
'She's not cursed. Our baby will be healthy. She's going to stay with us.' Charles said in her heart.
'Lance has adopted her. I know he'll love her but my sister is....' Her eyes turned to her sister who was whispering something to the toddler.
'She'll love her. You'll see.'
The soft steps of someone coming made their heads turn to the door. No one was allowed in her room, except the family members.
"Momma," A small boy squealed happily, pulling his small hand away from his aunt's hand. He immediately quieted seeing the younger one sleeping. His eyes darted between the playing kid and the sleeping one. Carla smiled looking at her son.
Cassidy settled on the edge of the bed. "You're looking weak. I should call the healers." She said.
"No, I want to feel this. It's not painful." Carla smiled, assuringly. She was worried about her human girl.
Cassidy flashed her full smile. "I knew this." She patted the back of her hand. "Can I hold her?" She asked, beamingly, looking at Katherine.
"Sure," She forwarded, placing her on her stretched arms.
Cassidy's eyes flashed amber as she glanced at Evangeline. "She's strong, her wolf is strong." She said.
"Yes, but...." Carla's eyes were on Emersyn.
"Why is she not playing, uncle?" Jace asked with his big eyes.
"Emersyn is a special child. She needs more care." Lance told him.
Jace wasn't looking convinced. He glanced at his mother, Carla. She offered him a small smile, her eyes glistened with unshed tears.
"Because she's the youngest kid of the family." Jack said, walking into the room. He picked him up and Jace curled his small arms around his strong neck.
"I'll take care of my sister, uncle." He looked down at her sleeping baby sister.
"I know you will, young man. Now go and train with your brothers." He told him.
A big smile kicked the corners of his lips up. "But Luke said I'm too young." His face was saddened.
Jack straightened his neck. "Tell them, Senior Alpha has told this." He put him on his feet.
He bolted out of the room. "I'm training! I'm training!" He kept repeating, happily and excitedly.
"I don't want anything to repeat," Carla said, fear visible in her eyes.
"The Queen is here. No one can go against our ancestors." Jack said.
"There's no fear of war now. There is no attack after setting her free from darkness." Charles said.
"She's not cursed. She's just not born like us all. She's healthy.." Katherine said, patting her sister's shoulder.
"Doesn't it seem too easy? I just don't want anyone to hurt my baby. " Carla said. Tears slithered down her eyes.
Her mate was trying to help her in calming down. Her constant nagging and worrying thoughts were disturbing him.
"It was because of the unity in all races. And there was no one who wanted to harm her." A gorgeous woman paced inside the room. Two twin boys were trailing behind her. They were taller than their three years old age, had golden eyes, and dark soft hair. They're handsome babies.
They bowed their heads at her sight, getting on their feet, except Carla. She nodded her head.
One of them shuffled forward and held the fisted hand of the sleeping baby. The baby flew, her eyes opened, and showed her toothless smile.
"She's beautiful, mama," Darkice said, returning the smile to her.
Queen Reina glanced at her son with shock which she recovered immediately. " I'm glad you've something sweet to say to her." Her voice was so soft and her eyes were tender on her son.
Evangeline stopped playing, she was looking at Dyson. Both brothers were working opposite according to their nature. Darkice is a small boy with few words, he almost prefers not to speak. Dyson is always cheerful, laughing, and a loud boy.
Darkice snorted, furrowing his brows. " Is she sick, mama? " He touched the warm fabric.
Reina crutched in front of her eldest son and shook her head. "She's a very small baby. The weather is cold for her."
He looked at the other baby. There was nothing to protect her from the cold. But he wasn't feeling cold. It didn't settle well with him.
"Let's go, Dyson. We'll wait in the hall." He told his brother and looked down at her tiny fist in his small hand. Leaning, he kissed her small knuckles again. His golden eyes turned to Lance. "Mother taught me one word today." He paused as he was considering it. "Congratulations" He slowly spoke the word.
"Thank you, young boy." He nodded his head with a full smile.
Dyson stared at the babies before running behind his brother. Their eyes were watching them keenly.
"She'll be safe and healthy," Reina assured her.
"Queen," She said the words with trembling lips. "My Emma. I lost her. My baby is...." Her tears choked her.
"She's human. It doesn't change anything." Reina said assuringly.
Carla peered up at their queen. Her mother's heart was scared for her small baby.
