Derek's POV
After going back to my office, I explained the situation to Tabitha.
Actually, I had known for a long time that Zander was secretly bribing my men, so I decided to turn his trick to my own use.
I let my men find a time to "betray" me, gaining Zander's trust.
Zander fell into the trap, and I took the chance to find the moles.
When listening, Tabitha kept her mouth open in shock.
She said, "Just a few days ago, I read a post about the real business wars. They said the worst thing they've done was to secretly unplug their rival company's internet cables or something."
Hearing this, I reached out and scratched her nose dotingly, "Don't be too surprised."
Tabitha stammered, "Well, actually, you can tell me more about your business. I feel like a useless person in this matter."
Seeing her being so considerate and adorable, I couldn't help but smile, "I don't really want you to get involved in all of this mess."
Tabitha pouted and asked, "The Greenwood Group's problem has been solved, but what about Lisa? Rolf and the others are still detained, and I heard that even your finance guy was taken away. Your people must be in a panic."
I smiled calmly, "No worries. I've never made any mistakes in the company's finances. It was just their smokescreen. Just let them make a fuss. I naturally have my own ways to deal with it."
I had never seen Zander as a threat to me. After all, the only thing he had that could make him surpass me was his family.
What I really saw as a threat was the mastermind behind the assassination of Tabitha.
That person was extremely cautious. The assassin ended his own life once we caught him, leaving no clues for us.
Just as I was immersed in my thoughts, Tabitha made a sound. "Why do you look so worried? You beat Zander so beautifully this time."
"Tabitha, Zander is a small fry. I'm afraid that someone wants to take this chance to harm you." I said these to her directly, as I noticed that her mental state had been relatively stable lately. I wanted her to be more cautious.
Tabitha was a bit confused, asking, "You mean those who threw sulfuric acid and tried to hurt me with a dagger? Weren't they Lisa's crazy fans?"
I explained, "No, they were paid and disguised as her fans. Originally, they just wanted to cause a stir. But when they found that you were also there, they decided to change their plans and kill you on the spot. Fortunately, you managed to dodge it. Otherwise, I might really lose you again."
Tabitha frowned, murmuring, "No wonder I felt something was off about that man. He's a pro, right?"
"Um-hum."
Tabitha touched her abdomen and then asked, "Tell me honestly, is my premature birth also related to those people?"
"Yeah. I didn't tell you before cuz I didn't want you to be too upset," I sighed.
Tabitha tightly clenched her fists, hissing, "What did I do to offend them? Why did they wanna kill me?"
I reached out and touched her face gently, saying, "Tabitha, it's not your fault. The person behind it is very good at hiding. I've been trying to find this guy."
"Then did you find anything?"
"No, all we can be certain of is that he or she is abroad, can easily dispatch assassins and hire hackers, and has at least billions of dollars to be used on hunting and killing you. I guess that person might have something to do with your biological family."
"My biological family?"
I then briefly explained it to Tabitha. After listening, she lowered her eyes and pondered for a moment, whispering, "So you mean my biological parents might not be some ordinary people, and my existence must've threatened the status of certain individuals. That's why they wanna get rid of me at all costs?"
I nodded. "Sort of. So I made a high-profile declaration of love this time, just to draw that person out."
Tabitha's gaze suddenly became determined. "I will catch that guy, avenging my pups!"
"We will. We'll definitely catch that guy." I held her in my arms affectionately. The loss of our pups was an indelible pain in my life.
After all, I had put much more energy and love on them than on Kyrian and had been longing for their arrival.
Suddenly, my phone buzzed, and I answered it with one hand. "Got it. I'll be right there."
I silently said to Leo in my mind, "Leo, we still can't let our guards down. We must protect Tabitha."
Leo growled in response, telling me that he would protect Tabitha with me.
I looked at Tabitha and said, "I've got something else to do. You wait here, OK?"
Tabitha nodded. "Go ahead. I'll be careful."
Then, I turned around and left the office, my steps firm, swearing in my heart that I must catch the mastermind behind everything as fast as I could.
