Tabitha's POV
Before meeting Andrea, I had imagined her in my mind as a crazy woman like a devil.
After we actually met, I realized that I was wrong.
Andrea was a sorrowful woman who had never experienced love throughout her life.
"You are too persistent." I might have forgotten the past, but I could empathize with Andrea as if I had also done similar things before.
Andrea said, "The meaning is similar. The past me was not really a qualified mother. At this stage in life, I've gained some insights. You are happier than me as you have received his complete love. You are the one that deserves to wear this bracelet the most."
I looked at her in surprise and asked, "So you don't oppose us being together?"
"Why oppose it? You two are such a good match. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to offer you a word of caution. While Derek is undoubtedly gifted, being raised in a family like ours has imprinted some significant flaws in his personality. Ordinary people may not notice it, but it's evident to those who are close to him.
"He lacks the ability to love, but you are different. I heard that you grew up in a loving family, so it's normal for him to be attracted to you. Once a man from the Black Thorn Pack commits to someone, his choice is set in stone for life. It's a form of bliss, yet it can also be a kind of disaster.
"Child, you are still young, and there is a long road ahead of you. I hope that no matter what Derek will do to you, you will be by his side. May the misfortunes of our past not befall you."
I felt complicated and didn't know how to reply to Andrea.
In theory, Derek and I were already married. Derek loved me so much, so I should have loved him too.
But there was always a voice in my mind warning me to stay away from Derek.
Seeing that I remained silent, Andrea took the initiative to hold my hand and asked, "Can I call you Tabitha?"
"Of course."
"I had a god-daughter, probably around your age. Unfortunately, I didn't take good care of her, which led to our separation for many years. If you don't mind, can you just call me 'Mom' from now on?"
The sudden motherly love caught me off guard, "Okay..."
"Good girl, what are your plans for the future?"
I shook my head, "I don't know. I heard that I used to study medicine, so I may continue studying it."
I was at a loss as if my future was shrouded in mist.
The present me was like a beautiful doll, exquisite and lovely, yet devoid of a soul.
I had no idea what I should do.
Dreams? Future? I had no desires or aspirations in my heart, and I never had any anticipation for tomorrow.
My heart would hurt slightly whenever the unborn child was occasionally mentioned.
I had no intention of getting pregnant again.
These days, the most intimate actions between Derek and I were just hugs and good morning kisses.
Derek was extremely considerate towards me, even allowing me to have my way in such matters and assuring me that he would give me time.
With no single flaw, he was excessively perfect. In contrast, I always maintained a composed demeanor.
Andrea seemed to want to say something, but eventually, she just nodded and said, "Studying medicine is good."
My mother-in-law's understanding and consideration far exceeded my expectations.
"You can settle down now. Whether you want to choose to study medicine or engage in business, it's up to you. Derek loves you very much, and I hope you can love him just as well in our place. That child... He has suffered too much."
My wolf sensed the confusion and contradiction in my consciousness.
It seemed to be reminding me to seriously consider my emotions and future.
I silently thought to myself that perhaps I should try to understand Derek and feel his love, instead of maintaining a cold attitude.
But at the same time, I was also afraid of being hurt again and getting trapped in an inescapable emotional bond.
I looked at Andrea, filled with doubt and unease in my heart.
I didn't know if I could love Derek as well as she expected. But I knew I needed time to find the answer.
