Striding forward, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. We walked out of the house. Luke opened the back seat door.
My heart was slamming against my ribcage. Fear was tightening my chest. I got in the car. He wasn't holding me. I peered down at my hands. They were shivering. Luke closed the door.
Everything hovered over my head. My lower lip began to shake. "No one can harm you. If she wouldn't be your mother..." Jasper's jaw locked. He blinked, reining in to control his wolf. He slid in next to me.
I curled my arms around him. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault." He patted my back.
My gaze turned to Jace as he settled behind the wheel. The blood was still fresh there. He took out the white handkerchief and wiped it on his cheek. "I'm not hurt, Ember. My healing power is strong." He said, an encouraging smile turned up the corners of his mouth as he sniveled his neck to gaze at me.
"Are you certain? Your cheek was bleeding." I was scared.
"Was. Okay, kiddo?" He asked.
I nodded my head fully. If he wouldn't have interfered, it would be me with a scar on my face. Forever. Though it made tears run down my cheeks. I looked out of the window. The sun was getting high, spreading its rays everywhere. The lump in my throat made the clogging worse. I breathed out and in trying to get hold of my running heart and unwanted feelings.
"Emersyn." I heard Jasper.
Swiping my fingers on my cheeks, I turned to look at him. He was holding the ointment and began to run it softly on my cheek. I didn't realize it was a bruise until his finger touched the damaged part and it stung. Mentally pain was worse than the physical.
"Will I get a scar?" Tears pooled in my eyes again. I might not be gorgeous, stunning with a model look but I love myself.
"No, it will go before you step into the academy," Jasper said, assuring.
"She is already there," Jace said, his eyes on the display.
Jasper nodded, his gaze turned to Ed, one of the pack members. He must be telling him something in his head.
Ed ignited the engine. I could feel eyes on me but I didn't dare to look at them. It was Jasper who was halting them from coming over here. I didn't want them around me.
They would do nothing more than scare me.
After reaching the end of our territory, Ed pulled the car in. I stared at the white private plane. It wasn't only us, but some trusted members of Jasper's team. He called them. soldiers.
"Are we under attack?' I asked, not moving my jaw much.
" No," I waited for more information but he opened the door and climbed out. He held the door for me. He glanced at me. He stared back at him. "Em," He whispered, telling me to climb down.
"It must be frustrating for you to be around me. I don't understand things until you speak. And you don't have to do this with others." I said, sliding forward and I stepped out.
His head shook. "Every Alpha sends some of his shoulders to the academy. Students are our future. They need to be protected. You're my sister, a princess."
"Dark creatures. Shadow beasts?" I muttered the word from a book I had read recently but I read only a few chapters. Plus eighteen' mention deterred me.
"There's not a thing like shadow beasts. Okay?" He asked, halting.
"I got it. I just like the words from the book. Big brother." I smiled and felt the pain.
"There's no beast, no shadow. Only two things balance the earth and dark realm and the other realms."
My eyes widened installing the information in. "What's that?" I whispered, hardly moving my lips.
"Dark and light.' He said,
" I don't understand. Is it related to the queen?"
"Yes and no." Jace said coming from behind me. He smiled at me but it disappeared after resting on my cheek. His jaw ticked.
"How's that?" I asked. I was worried about my look but I wasn't getting the opportunity if the topic dropped.
"The Dark King was the most powerful. And his brother.."
"Darius," I spoke, smiling. I thanked Everly for the stories she told me and sometimes she let me read her books.
"Yes, he was the Light Prince." Jasper glanced up at the sky.
I followed his gaze but nothing. My eyes turned to him. He took the stairs to reach the plane. Jace slung his arm around my shoulder and led me to the stairs.
I had read about them. The Dark King married the Light Queen. The Queen gave birth to twins and then two more sons, Alessandro and Edward. They were powerful but no one was powerful like her firstborn. Dastien! Every time I said his name in my head I felt a strange kind of calmness. He brought peace within me. I had read he was more powerful than his father. There wasn't much written about his family.
I took the seat next to Jasper. My eyes were still on him, I wanted to know more. "So?" I asked.
He arched his eyebrows at me. "Betty would heal you." He said, motioning with his index finger.
My head jerked in the direction. My lips parted seeing the prettiest girl with an oval face, and pink painted lips, walking toward me in a simple plain green gown. it was matching the color of her eyes. Her dark green eyes rested on me. More than me she was looking shocked. Perhaps my bruises made me look more ugly. Her hair was dark and long and the ends were curled.
I lowered my chin. My hair fell around my cheeks, working like curtains. I was feeling out of place.
"Emersyn," She spoke my name softly.
It compelled me to look up. She was smiling down at me. "Ember," I flashed my full smile and groaned in pain.
"Ember, but I'm calling you, Em." She placed her hand over my bruised cheek.
I squeezed my eyes shut fearing the pain. My eyes snapped open. I could feel the power surging through her palm. "What are you doing? It feels good."
She giggled. My smile appeared automatically. "Now, it's better." She pulled her hand back.
Jace sighed, "It looks better now."
"Oh, she healed me." Astounded, I peered up at him.
"Yes, I did." She smiled broadly, her eyes never leaving me.
"Um, thank you. Are you a healer? Wait a minute." My back straightened as I stared at her in disbelief. "No healer could heal me before. How's that possible?" My gaze drifted from one face to another.
"Oh, because I'm a wolf and a fae." She walked over to the empty seat and took it.
My gaze followed her with a dropped jaw. After staring at her for never-ending minutes, I sniveled my neck and saw the smiling faces of my brothers. "Where did you hide her for all these years? Will she show me her wings?" I looked at her through the corners of my eyes. She wasn't paying attention to me.
"You should blame her mate," Jace muttered, chuckling.
"Oh, is he here?" I asked, looking around, seeing every face.
Someone cleared his throat as he towered over me. My eyes met the cold icy blue eyes. He was very handsome. His body structure and his dark blue suit was giving him a businessman look. "That's my seat, young lady." He said, still looking down at me under his nose.
"I'll sit wherever I want to sit." I shrugged my shoulders. I wouldn't leave my brothers' sides. I felt protective.
His brows shot up. "That was already decided." His tone was cold. But his expression stayed neutral.
"I don't care." My lips flattened. What was his problem?
"Miss Emersya Quarles Dawson," He said my name as he was going to punish me. I snorted, not wanting to hear him. He knew my name and still, he wanted this seat. Couldn't he take his ass somewhere else? "That." He pointed at the seat. "Isn't your seat. Rules are the rules."
"Oh, I grew up breaking all the rules, Mr. Whoever?" I lifted my brows.
Betty giggled along with my brothers. "Em, why don't you sit with me?"
It wasn't a bad thing. She seems good-company to me than my brothers. I turned in my seat to look at them. Their eyes were already on me, their lips curled up in amusement.
"Arrogant nerd." I pushed on my feet. The hair rose on the back of my nape as his eyes flashed amber on me. Oh hell! It's a bad day. I should keep my mouth shut.
"What did you call me?" His voice changed as his wolf took over him.
"Edward," Betty was on his side, placing her hand on his shoulder, grabbing all his attention from me to her.
"Shit! Edward David Morris?" My eyes shot to my brothers.
Jace nodded his head, his smirk never vanished. I gave him a that-wasn't-cool look.
"Go to your seat," Jasper said.
I cast my head down. Everyone around us stared at me. Heat rushed through me in embarrassment. Feeling gloomy, I forced my feet to the other side of the aisle and dumped my ass on the leather seat. It's the worst day of my life. Edward David Morris, he doesn't like me. His mate is sweet but he's sour lemon which won't be sweet, not even after adding thousands of tons of sugar in it. Poor Betty.
"You're drained, Beth. Rest." Edward kissed her forehead.
I looked away from them before he could catch me peering at them. I felt a void-place inside my chest. It was bothering me. I forced my gaze to remain out of the window instead of staring at the mated couple. I couldn't help, turning my eyes, they rested on them. Edward looked at her as she was his life, his everything. I could see the same feelings in her eyes too. I refocused my gaze out of the window.
