I stared at the cars. Beth got in as her arrogant-mate held the door open for her. I averted my eyes away immediately. I wasn't sure I would ever get a person who I would call the PARTNER. My parents might be powerful but I was nothing. I wasn't getting a mate ever. And in the human world, I have seen them breaking their hearts. They're selfish in love. I am going to be alone forever.
Someone cleared his throat. I twisted the one side of my lips showing my annoyance.
"What did I do?" Jace said, stopping next to me.
I flattened my lips. No one scolded him, not even Alpha. Yes, I wasn't going to talk to my parents, my brothers.
"Pumpkin, would you like to come with me?" A deep and soft voice reached my ears.
"Brother," I spun and rushed forward, opening my arms, a giant smile crawled over my face.
He engulfed me, wearing a broad smile on his handsome face. "What's upsetting you?" He kissed my head.
I took a step back and looked at him. His rare eyes were already set on me. His left eye was amber which he got from my mother and his right one was grey like his father's. Once, my mother and his father were in love. He was tall and muscular, with a slight beard. I glanced over his shoulder at Jasper. His face was blank.
"Nothing, I didn't want the window seat." I pushed the corners of my lips up.
Drake arched his brows and shook his head when I didn't say a word. "Get in the car, baby sister." He said, turning to the car.
Jace tugged me with him. "I'm not going in Jasper's car," I whispered.
We stopped near the car. Jasper already opened the door. I slid in, pinching my lips together.
"Emersyn, Edward is part of NineA." Jasper said.
"You and Drake are also part of it. What's the difference? Is he on the higher rank?" I asked, offended.
"It's not that easy. Rules are for everyone." Drake said, looking down at me.
"I don't care. I'm not a wolf." I closed the door. He could have stopped me easily. I let out a sigh of relief when he didn't.
"We're heading to the academy. The morning we're going to see Dad." Drake said.
"Alright, if you have planned already."
"I know you're upset with Mom and Charles." Anger flashed in his eyes, his jaw set tight.
"I don't wanna talk about them." It hurts to recall it.
"Alright, Kid." Drake sighed softly.
"I'm not a kid, Drake." Why was everyone going to irk me?
"You're seventeen and a kid. We were adults the day you were born. So, you would do as you're told and you wouldn't misbehave with anyone. Just concentrate on your study. This is pretty different from the books you're used to reading." Jasper said, rebuking.
Tears stung in my eyes. I bit on my lower lip, looking away from them. "It's not my fault if Reina changed the rules. You could have enrolled me in another academy, away from here where you wouldn't have to get embarrassed because the youngest born of the family was born without her wolf." My voice cracked with emotions.
"Henry, drive Ember to the academy. Make sure she gets in her room." Jasper ordained someone.
"Calm down, Em." Drake whispered.
I didn't raise my chin. Someone got behind the wheel and ignited the key.
Why did things have to be ruined like this? I would have run somewhere away. But it would take them less than a day to haul me back to the room.
I kept crying in the back seat without looking up. My phone was vibrating nonstop in my pocket. I couldn't dare to move. I wanted to disappear. Jasper scolded me in front of everyone. Was he trying to please Edward? Was he on the higher rank? He would be.
"Emersyn, are you alright?" Henry asked.
He must be having pity on me. He could scent my emotions. I wasn't bothered. Even Jasper didn't allow Jace and Drake to come with me.
"Ember," I managed through my clogged throat. They always used my full name.
"Here, you'll feel better." He extended his hand with the water bottle.
I looked at him from behind the curtains of my hair. "T-hanks," I took it from him. I swiped the back of my hand on my cheek.
"I never saw you before." I tried to avert my attention. My feelings are gonna choke me.
"I used to be the head of security at the academy. I'm beta. Rare Hunter pack." He's Drake's Beta. I rarely saw him.
"Take me to my Daddy's house." I told him in my cracking voice.
"Alpha won't approve of it. I'll inform Senior Alpha. " He said.
I didn't want to put him in any trouble. Silence fell in the car again. It was dark out of the window. But I could tell the single road was enclosed by wood. It would be difficult to escape from here. Everly wouldn't help me either. She was a member of the blood moon pack. Her wolf was addicted to the pack. But no rules applied to me.
Henry pulled the car in front of a dark grey villa. It was of Jasper. For now, I didn't have any choice. I would find a way to be alone, on my own.
Getting out of the car, he took my luggage from behind. I was still staring at the beautiful modern house in front of me. There were nine villas, in a row, standing proudly. They were of white colors, grey, blue, or black. It looked like a devil's house.
NineA Colony. The members of the council lived here. I could only hope the others wouldn't be rude like Edward. I didn't like that person.
Henry opened the door. I looked up. He was muscular and handsome. "Thank you. I'll manage further." I slid out of the car
"I can't disobey my Alpha." He gestured at the door.
I let him lead me to the villa. The door wasn't locked. It wasn't surprising. It was only me who locked her door. I love my privacy.
The floor was made of white marble stone in the living room, mahogany furniture, grey couches, a glass table and a television screen, the big one and bookcase were decorating the wall behind it.
I managed to keep my outward appearance calm as I averted my eyes around the luxury.
"Please, this way, Ember." Henry gestures at the staircase.
I could explore his villa later. I followed him to the stairs. The railing was of class, my eyes lifted up to gaze at the ceiling. The giant chandelier gleamed with thousands of tiny bulbs. Everything was breathtaking.
"Your room. I'll be back with your meal." He said and whirled, leaving me.
I wasn't very happy about the situation. But there's nothing but I have to do as I was told. Jasper made it clear before sending me here. My inner turmoil was telling me to find a way. For now, I asked it to shut up. Maybe later, after some days, we could work to find a way out of all troubles.
I deflated, stepping into the room. I closed the door behind me and looked around. That wasn't what I was hoping for. I was expecting a single bed, with a bulky desk and hardly any space to move in the room.
With a queen size bed and a few but expensive pieces of furniture like two single couches and a coffee table, the room was beautiful like the rest of the house.
I was going to keep my guard up. But when I knew I was alone in the house, I couldn't hold my tears. I walked over to the bed and plopped on it, I buried my face in the fluffy pillow. Everything started to repeat in my head. I couldn't hold back the tears.
The first thing I did after waking up, checked the time. It was five o'clock. Jace and Jasper would be out for their workout. I have an hour. My gaze caught the tray. I slept before Henry returned with my meal.
I pushed myself out of the bed. My feet staggered. It's Saturday. I have two days to fulfill my wishes. Then I would be nothing more than a robot.
After taking a quick shower, I put on rugged jeans, a red round-neck full sleeves top, and white sneakers. I threw two chocolates, some cookies, a water bottle in it, and my small purse. I slung it over my shoulder.
Leaving my phone on the desk, I reached the door. I blew out a heavy breath. I prayed. I didn't want them outside of the door.
Twisting it, I opened it and peered out. I heard my heart beating in my ears. I straightened my back and left the room.
While climbing down the stairs, I didn't make any noise. But if someone was home, he was going to hear me.
My feet halted when I saw a shadow out of the main door. He could be Henry. Jasper must have told him to keep an eye on me.
I held myself from making noise in impatience. I darted my gaze around. There must be another way to go out. Silently, I walked away from the door.
A smile lit up on my face when I saw a window open. I silently prayed.
Ah! What a lovely day! I'm already liking the favor of God. If one exists!
Smiling, I paced over to it. With a last glance around me, I peered out of the window.
The first thing I saw was - Grass! It would be safe to jump on the other side. Carefully, I jumped on the other side.
My eyes darted around. Trees were lined up ten feet away from the house and many colorful flowers and their scents were making the morning more beautiful. I broke into a run toward the woods.
I would get enough time to stare at them when Jasper would ground me. I clamped my hand over my mouth to stop the laugh.
I could hear howls in the wood. I stared at my wrist. It has been more than an hour since my wandering in the woods. I don't think this is going to end any soon. All I could see was wood around me.
My lips turned upward when I heard the soft sound of running water. My feet moved toward the direction of the sound. My gaze stayed ahead, waiting for the view.
The sound of running water got louder with every step closer to it. My smile broadened seeing the shimmering water under the morning sun.
"Wao.." My lips parted in shock. I hadn't seen such a beautiful place. Extending my hand, I brushed my fingers over the soft petals of the flowers. "This is heaven."
The calm stream was enclosed by thousands of flowers and plants from both sides. On the other side of it, I could see meadows and more flowers and butterflies dancing while hovering over them. Nothing could be more beautiful than this.
My feet kept moving. I stared at the water. It wasn't shallow. It was calm and it wasn't more than one feet deep. It was crystal clear that I could see rocks beneath it.
A loud howl jolted me out of my fairytale thoughts. My head jerked back. I sucked in a sharp breath. A huge, very huge black wolf was standing behind me, watching me with his amber eyes.
My heart beat in anticipation. I held my breath. My gaze was fixed on him. I haven't seen such a large wolf before. He is the alpha. I could tell from the change of air and authority around him. His amber eyes were filled with something I couldn't decipher.
He forwarded. A deep growl left his throat as he stared at me. Scared for unknown reasons, I stepped back.
With every step back, I could feel his anger increasing. What did I do wrong to earn this? If I would have seen a board on my way to this beautiful place about private land I wouldn't have stepped here. Alright, I would have taken a risk to behold this little heaven.
He bared his sharp teeth at me. It wouldn't take him minutes but seconds to rip my head off my body.
His predatory eyes were setting off warning bells in my head. Why was this happening to me? Oh yes! My mother hardly allowed me out of the house at this time of the day.
I gulped in dread. He wasn't taking his gaze off of me. His soft growl reached my ears, making my heart jump in my ribcage.
I spun to run away. I knew it was a stupid move. A shadow fell over me. I squealed in terror.
Shock paralyzed my body. My head couldn't decide in shock and terror that I should turn and tried to run away from him again.
He forwarded. His paws were dipped in the water, just his paws. I shivered in terror when he drew his face closer, The corners of his lips pulled back showing his weapons. He would skin me.
I forced myself to move back slowly. I didn't realize in my horror that my feet were in the water. I lifted my step, keeping my eyes on him, hoping he wouldn't notice.
Shit! I'm doing it the wrong way. I cast my eyes low. "I-I am s-orry. I didn't s-ee the sign of..." My feet slipped but I balanced myself. I lifted another step. "Private land, Sir," I said
He growled in anger, making me jump in fear. My body trembled in dread, I lost my balance and my feet slipped.
