Chapter 101

Ch. 101 / 150 Sep 27, 2024

My mother gulped and locked her eyes on me. My shoulders sagged, and I wanted to slide under the table.

"Why are you looking at me, Mom?" I asked, not liking it. Her this-look brings only restrictions for me.

Neglecting my question, she turned to look at Jasper. "What is this?" Her tone wasn't friendly.

Jasper looked at my father. Clearly telling him to explain it to her. It wasn't good.

"Queen Reina has issued some new rules." My father said.

"About what?" Her forehead creased as she leaned forward. She was not looking happy about it.

"That children like our daughter have to study in the academy instead of in a human school." He explained to her.

Did I hear him right? I want to jump out of my seat and dance. That's good. Very good. But my mother isn't looking happy.

"What? Is she out of her mind?" She screamed, annoyed.

"Watch your tone, Carla. Your one mistake could put our pack in trouble. You won't repeat your mistake. Do you?" Uncle Jack warned her in his Alpha tone. Senior Alpha still rules the pack, dude. You can't cross him.

"But it's about my daughter." Her lips flattened in a thin line.

"We're helpless, Carla. You couldn't stop destiny. Your stubbornness could turn Emma's life full of troubles. She should be attending school, leading her life as a princess as she deserves but...." Aunt trailed off as her eyes rested on me. They called me Emma, not Ember. When would they understand that I'm not their dead daughter? No one treats Everly like this or calls her Emma. I snorted. All glanced at me.

They were talking about her dead daughter. What would have happened back there? They were not going to answer me.

"Please, Jasper. You're part of Nine. Make her understand, she's just a kid and human with no powers. She can't survive there. " Mother uses her beseeching tone.

"She'll be safe there, Aunt," Jasper assured her.

"You're not getting it." She shook her head furiously.

"We should let her go, Carla." Daddy C told her, still staring at his curled hand on the table.

"No, she's not going there." Mom declared.

"We can't go against the Queen, Mom. Ember would be safe there. She won't be alone or only human in the academy." Jace said.

"That place is dangerous and ominous. It took my daughter away twenty years ago. I can't lose my child again. Look at her. She's..."

I wanted to tell her to ask for my option too.

"Carla..." Daddy C cut her off as his heavy voice boomed in the hallway.

I pushed myself back in fear when I saw his eyes flashing. The squeal of the chair echoes in the hall. All heads turned to me. I swallowed the lump of dread in my throat.

The goosebumps rose on my arms and the back of my neck. I never heard any of them shouting in front of me.

I trembled startlingly, feeling a hand on my shoulder. I let out a heavy sigh, finding blue eyes looking down at me. I really wanted my sister around me when my parents were losing their temper. But she was nowhere to be seen.

"Why don't we ask, Emersyn?" He smiled, bending. "What do you want, Kiddo?" He spoke softly.

I always wanted to study in the academy instead of the school. I had no friends there. They stayed away from me until one of them wanted to date my brothers.

I nodded my head. A slow smile crawled over my face thinking that this could happen. It was gone immediately when I saw my mother running toward her room. "But mom won't like it." I lowered my head, hiding my tears. I couldn't tell her that I also wanted to go to the academy and study our history.

"I'll talk to her, princess." Daddy C leaned over and kissed my head. He enthusiastically smiled my way.

I forced my lips to curl up. But I was disturbed far more by my mother. Would she ever let me wander alone for a while? Just because I wasn't like them all, it did not keep me away from the heritage of my family. I don't have freedom like Ava, Everly, and like them. Though, elders are happily mated.

"I don't know." I shrugged my shoulders looking up at him. If I would stay home, I couldn't stop mulling over it. "Are we going out or are you canceling it?" I asked Jace, turning to him. I shouldn't get my hopes high. It hurts when they shatter.

"Yes. You kids can go after dinner." Aunt said and got on her feet. Without giving another glance, she walked out of the hall.

I looked at my brothers, Their expressions were blank. Mostly, I have found Luke staring at me for a long time and he just shook his head and refused to question. But he thought something.. what? I don't know.

"Ember, will you help me in the kitchen?" Aunt asked.

"Luke and Jace will help you. Ember is going to fill out her forms." Jasper told his mother.

Cassidy thinned her red-painted lips but nodded her head. "Get back before seven. Your aunt is already upset." She sighed returning to the kitchen.

Jasper inhaled deeply. "No doubt." He said.

She's upset but she should understand I wanna spend my life in my way, I wanna enjoy it fully. I don't wanna say that I spend my life walking in the steps of someone else's. I wanna leave my footprints on the sand.

I followed him out of the hall. Taking the stairs, we reached his office. He was already sitting behind the desk when I entered. He was also the fastest, indeed everyone in my family.

"Was it really a form or you're going to tell me a secret?" I asked, pulling the chair out for me.

He rested his elbows on the desk and glanced at me. "It's going to be quite different from your regular life, Emersyn."

"How quite different?" I asked. I wanted to know everything

"You won't only meet wolves but also faeries, witches, hunters, and Vampires from royal families. There would be nothing to be scared of."

I snorted. "Why would I be scared of them? You said they are royal. Just don't let Vampires bite me. " Mere thought of seeing their fangs sent a shiver down my spine. I have heard stories from Jack uncle. They're dangerous and can hypnotize you.

"They're far different from the stories Charles has told you. Are you getting me, kiddo?" He asked.

I huffed and nodded my head. "They're not dangerous. They won't bite me." My head wasn't convinced of what I said to my cousin.

"Ember..." He stared at me, pulling my name.

"Okay, I'm a little scared of them biting me. That's it. But I didn't want my fear to get what I wanted for a long time. But, you know Mom. She won't let me go there. So, no use in dreaming."

"No one could deny Reina. No one!" He said looking into my eyes.

"Alright." I nodded. I glanced at him dumbfoundedly. "Where's the form?" I trailed off, locking my eyes on the books on the bookcase behind him.

"I've filled it already. Just sign here." He grabbed the file and opened it. After running his eyes on it, he slid it toward me.

I took it and glanced at it. Shadow Supernatural Academy. It was written in bold letters on the top of the farm. My eyes bulged out in shock finding my parent's signatures already there. "They have signed it. When? But mom acted as she had just seen rotten tomatoes instead of fresh fruits." I stared at them longer. They were of Daddy L and Mother Kate.

He smirked. "You're out with Everly. Your mother will be fine. She's just not ready to let you go yet. See, Lance and Kat have no problem with it. " he tapped his finger on their signs.

"I'm not going for forever." I sighed, feeling sad. My mother never let me out of the sight. She sent guards with me to the school too. They attended my classes too. That shoved everyone away from me. That was the biggest reason no one wanted to be my friend. They called me an egoistic rich girl. I knew they called me an arrogant brat too. They were scared of my guards and of course, my brothers, too.

"She loves you. You could have told her that you also wanted to study at the academy. I would have done anything for you, little sis." He said.

I trust him. I know he means it. "I don't want to upset her. Haven't you seen her? I couldn't smell the emotions but I have a heart."

He glanced at me longer. He was a sensible, strong, and handsome alpha. I'm proud of him. I love my family. "She'll be fine, kiddo."

"I'm going to study in the academy. They will mock me."

He smiled. "Morning, you can go out to shop with Everly. We're leaving after that." He said, ending the conversation.

"Alright, big brother." I pushed myself onto my feet.

"Sit down," He said softly.

"Is there more?" I asked.

"Jace gave you the book." He told me.

"You already know." Sitting, I shrugged my shoulders. Can't they act normal around me? Sometimes, it gets irritating that they could know my feelings just with a simple inhale.

"Hm.. talk to Aunt."

"What if she persuades me not to go," I asked as I hadn't denied her ever. I was always an obedient girl until today.

"You can tell her what you want. She'll understand you." He suggested.

"It's going to be very difficult. You know this." Getting on my feet, I turned to the door.

"You'll get the book when you reach the academy," Jasper said.

Nodding, I left.
