Between Four of Us

Chapter 79

Ch. 79 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

The following morning, Camille woke up with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Today, she was heading to her doctor’s appointment for an ultrasound, and she could hardly wait to hear her baby’s heartbeat. Noah insisted on coming along, of course, and when Leo and Matthew heard about the appointment, they were just as eager to join. Camille couldn’t help but feel a surge of warmth at how much the three of them were invested in this journey with her.

“Are you ready?” Noah asked, waiting by the front door as she gathered her things.

Camille nodded, smiling. “More than ready. I can’t believe I get to hear her heartbeat today.”

Leo grinned, his eyes bright. “I think we’re just as excited as you are. It’s like we’re getting a glimpse into her world.”

Matthew added with a soft smile, “And we’ll get to hear how strong she’s growing, thanks to her mom.”

Camille’s heart melted as she looked at them, grateful for the unwavering support and love they constantly showed her. They piled into the car, chatting about baby names and the nursery colors she had been considering, filling the short drive to the clinic with laughter and lighthearted banter.

As they entered the examination room, Camille lay down on the bed, a mix of excitement and nerves fluttering through her. Noah took her hand, squeezing it reassuringly, while Leo and Matthew watched eagerly from the side of the room. When the doctor started the ultrasound, Camille held her breath, waiting to hear that first, precious sound.

The room was filled with a gentle rhythm, a steady thump-thump-thump that echoed from the screen. Camille’s eyes welled up with tears as she listened to her baby’s heartbeat for the first time, the sound filling her with a profound sense of love and wonder.

“Is that… her?” Noah asked, his voice barely a whisper, awe evident in his tone.

The doctor nodded, smiling. “Yes, that’s her heartbeat. She’s growing well, right on track.”

Leo’s eyes were wide as he listened. “That’s incredible. She’s got a strong heart, just like her mom.”

Matthew nodded, his expression filled with quiet pride. “She’s going to have everything she needs with all of us looking out for her.”

Camille felt overwhelmed with emotion, looking from the screen to each of the men by her side. They were already so devoted to her and her daughter, each of them invested in every step of her journey. Hearing her baby’s heartbeat made everything feel so much more real, like a gentle reminder that her life was about to change in the most beautiful way.

After the appointment, they headed back to Camille’s house, still talking about the ultrasound and the incredible experience they had just shared. As they walked inside, Camille’s heart was so full she felt like she could burst with happiness. She decided she wanted to make something special for them as a small gesture of gratitude.

“I think I’ll make lunch for us,” she said, her voice bright with enthusiasm. “It’s the least I can do after everything you’ve done for me.”

Noah raised an eyebrow, glancing at her with a hint of concern. “Are you sure? You should be resting after this morning. We can handle lunch.”

Camille waved him off with a smile. “I’m fine, really. I want to do this. I feel so energized after hearing her heartbeat.”

Reluctantly, they agreed, though she could see them keeping a watchful eye on her as she moved around the kitchen, gathering ingredients and setting up to make a simple pasta dish. She hummed to herself, still lost in the memory of the ultrasound, the sound of her baby’s heartbeat replaying in her mind.

But as she stood at the stove, stirring the sauce, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her. She gripped the counter, blinking in an attempt to clear her vision, but her surroundings seemed to spin, and she felt herself growing lightheaded.

“Camille?” she heard Matthew’s voice, faint and concerned, as he stepped into the kitchen. He must have noticed her unsteady stance because he quickly crossed the room, his hand reaching out to steady her. “Are you okay?”

Before she could answer, her vision blurred, and everything went dark.

When Camille opened her eyes, she was lying on the couch in the living room, a cool cloth resting on her forehead. Noah was kneeling beside her, his face filled with worry, while Leo stood nearby, holding her hand.

“Camille!” Noah’s voice was filled with relief as she stirred. “Are you okay?”

She blinked, a bit disoriented, but managed a weak smile. “What happened?”

Leo gave her a reassuring squeeze on the hand. “You fainted in the kitchen. Matthew caught you just in time.”

Camille sighed, a mixture of embarrassment and gratitude flooding through her. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to worry you all.”

Matthew knelt down beside her, his expression gentle but firm. “Camille, you don’t need to apologize. You’ve been through a lot today, and you need to take it easy. Let us take care of you.”

Noah brushed a stray hair from her face, his voice soft. “Camille, you don’t have to do everything on your own. We’re here to help you, to support you.”

Camille nodded, feeling a surge of love and appreciation for them all. “Thank you. I guess I got a little carried away with everything. I just wanted to do something special for you.”

Leo chuckled, his expression affectionate. “Trust us, you don’t have to cook to make us feel special. Having you and the baby safe and healthy is all we need.”

Camille felt her cheeks warm as she looked at each of them, feeling overwhelmed by their care. “You’re right. I’ll try to take it easier. I promise.”

After a few minutes, she began to feel more like herself, and the brothers eventually relaxed, though they insisted on bringing her water and making sure she was comfortable on the couch.

As they gathered around her, Camille looked at them with a soft smile. “Today was perfect, despite my little fainting spell. Hearing her heartbeat… it made everything feel so real.”

Noah took her hand, his gaze filled with love and quiet awe. “She’s a part of us now, Camille. And we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she has the best life possible.”

Matthew nodded, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “We’ll be here every step of the way, through every milestone, every challenge. You’re never alone in this.”

Leo added, his tone lighthearted but sincere, “And you’ll never have to lift a finger again if we have anything to say about it.”

Camille laughed, her heart full as she looked at each of them. “Thank you, truly. I don’t know how I got so lucky.”

Noah leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “We’re the lucky ones, Camille. You and our little girl are everything to us.”
