The following week, as Camille’s pregnancy began to feel more real with each day, the idea of preparing for her baby’s arrival took center stage in her mind. She wanted to create a home—a place where she could raise her child surrounded by love and stability. One afternoon, after a long breakfast filled with laughter and baby name ideas, Leo leaned over the table, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
“So,” he said, nudging her gently, “how do you feel about house hunting?”
Camille’s eyes widened in surprise. “House hunting?”
Matthew nodded, a soft smile on his face. “We thought it might be a good idea to look for a place where you can raise the baby—a place that’s all yours, where you feel safe.”
Leo shrugged, his grin widening. “And somewhere we can spoil the kid, of course.”
Camille chuckled, the warmth in her heart growing. “You two… you really thought this through, didn’t you?”
“Of course,” Leo said, feigning offense. “I have the best taste in houses. You’ll see.” He pulled out his phone and began scrolling through listings. “I’ve already bookmarked a few options!”
Matthew shot him a look, his mouth curving into a smirk. “He’s been planning this for weeks, Camille. Every night he’s been scouring real estate sites like it’s a second job.”
Leo looked at Camille, feigning innocence. “What can I say? I like big kitchens and extra bedrooms for all the little ones I’ll be spoiling someday.”
Camille laughed, feeling a flicker of excitement. She had felt lost in her grief for so long, but the idea of creating a home, of building a life for her child, brought a newfound hope. “Alright,” she said, her voice filled with anticipation. “Let’s do it. Let’s go find a house.”
They spent the morning driving around the area, Leo and Matthew animatedly discussing the pros and cons of each neighborhood while Camille watched them with fond amusement. She hadn’t expected house hunting to be so fun, but with their enthusiasm and playful banter, it felt like a real adventure.
Their first stop was a quaint, two-story house with a wrap-around porch and a garden filled with blooming flowers. Leo parked the car with a flourish, hopping out and gesturing to the house like a game show host.
“Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to your dream home!” he announced, waving his arms dramatically. “A picturesque home perfect for raising the world’s cutest baby.”
Camille laughed, rolling her eyes as she stepped out of the car. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, Leo.”
Matthew chuckled, crossing his arms as he surveyed the house. “I have to admit, this one has a nice charm. What do you think, Camille?”
Camille looked around, imagining herself and her child running through the yard, filling the house with memories. She nodded thoughtfully. “It’s beautiful. I can see us here.”
They walked through the house, each of them pointing out details and making suggestions.
“Look at this kitchen!” Leo said, opening the cabinets with delight. “Plenty of space for cooking. I’ll teach the baby my famous pasta recipe.”
Matthew shook his head, smiling. “And here’s a cozy living room. Perfect for family movie nights or reading bedtime stories.”
Camille’s heart warmed as she listened to them. She could see the future they were imagining—a future filled with love, laughter, and a sense of belonging. But as they reached the upstairs bedroom, she found herself hesitating.
“It’s beautiful,” she said softly, her hand brushing over the windowsill, “but I’m not sure this is… right.”
Leo and Matthew exchanged glances, their smiles fading slightly. Leo stepped forward, his voice gentle. “Camille, it’s okay. This is a big decision. We’ll keep looking until it feels perfect.”
The next house they visited was a cozy bungalow on the edge of town, surrounded by towering trees and a peaceful sense of seclusion. As soon as they pulled up, Camille felt a sense of calm settle over her. She stepped out of the car, taking in the quiet surroundings, and felt an unexplainable pull toward the little house.
“This one feels different,” she murmured, glancing back at Leo and Matthew.
Matthew nodded, his gaze thoughtful as he looked at the house. “It’s… peaceful. Private. I can see you raising the baby here, Camille.”
They walked inside, and Camille’s heart skipped a beat as she saw the open, sunlit living room, the cozy kitchen with a little breakfast nook, and the spacious backyard where she could imagine her child playing.
“Look,” Leo said, pointing to a window seat in one of the rooms. “You could sit here, reading to the baby. And right here…” he gestured to an empty corner, “I’m imagining a rocking chair. You could sit there with the baby, watching the sunrise.”
Camille’s eyes filled with tears, and she nodded, feeling an overwhelming sense of rightness. “This… this feels like home.”
They explored each room, Camille envisioning every detail, every memory she would create here with her child. As they reached the nursery, Matthew placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, his voice low.
“You’ll be an incredible mom, Camille,” he said softly. “I know Noah would be proud of you.”
Camille’s heart swelled at his words, and she turned to him, gratitude shining in her eyes. “Thank you, Matthew. For everything.”
Leo appeared in the doorway, a grin on his face. “So, is this the one?”
Camille took a deep breath, looking around the room that would soon hold the crib, toys, and laughter of her child. “Yes,” she whispered. “This is the one.”
As they walked back outside, Camille noticed the realtor nearby, talking on the phone. She turned to the brothers, a wide smile on her face. “I think I’m ready to make an offer.”
Matthew smiled, nodding with approval. “Then let’s make this place yours.”
The realtor approached, beaming as they finalized the details, and before Camille knew it, the house was hers. She was overwhelmed with joy, and as they walked back to the car, Leo wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“Welcome home, Camille,” he said with a soft smile. “You deserve this.”
That evening, back at the safe house, Leo and Matthew helped her start planning the move, going over furniture ideas and room arrangements. They were both equally enthusiastic, each of them eager to take on different roles in preparing the nursery.
“I’ll handle the crib,” Matthew offered. “I want to make sure it’s perfect.”
Leo raised a hand. “I’ll decorate. I know how to make a room feel cozy.”
Camille laughed, looking between the two of them. “You guys are really doing all this for me?”
Matthew’s eyes softened. “We’re doing this for you and the baby. We’re family, Camille. And we want to be here every step of the way.”
Camille felt a surge of warmth and love, realizing how much they meant to her. She looked at both of them, her heart full. “Thank you. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
As they settled into the planning, Matthew suddenly cleared his throat, his gaze steady. “Camille, when the baby arrives… if you’d like, I’d love to help raise them. To be a father figure.”
Leo nodded, a similar intensity in his eyes. “Me too. We both want to be there for you and the baby. Whatever you need, we’re here.”
