The days blended together as they waited, each of them clinging to hope and to the sound of her steady, rhythmic breathing. The doctors continued to run tests, monitoring her closely, but Camille’s condition remained the same—stable but unresponsive.
One evening, as Leo sat by her side, he felt her fingers twitch slightly in his hand. His heart leapt, and he called out for Noah and Matthew, who rushed in, hope sparking in their eyes.
“Camille?” Noah whispered, leaning close. “Can you hear us?”
Camille’s eyelids fluttered, and she let out a faint, barely audible sigh. Her fingers curled around Leo’s hand, and he grinned, relief flooding over him.
Matthew leaned in, his voice filled with emotion. “Camille, it’s us. We’ve been here, waiting for you.”
Slowly, her eyes opened, and she looked around, disoriented but aware. Her gaze settled on each of them, a faint smile tugging at her lips as she recognized the love and relief in their faces.
“Noah… Leo… Matthew,” she murmured, her voice weak but filled with warmth. “You’re here.”
Noah gently brushed a tear from her cheek, his voice thick with emotion. “Of course we’re here. We’ve been waiting for you to come back to us.”
Camille took a shaky breath, her gaze moving to each of them, lingering on their faces as if grounding herself in their presence. “I… I don’t know what happened. I just remember feeling so tired… like I couldn’t fight it.”
Matthew reached out, squeezing her hand. “You don’t need to explain. You’re safe now, Camille. Just focus on resting and getting better.”
Leo grinned, his eyes bright with relief. “Yeah, you scared us pretty bad there. Don’t do that again, alright?”
Camille managed a small laugh, her hand resting protectively on her belly. “I promise. I’ll try to stay out of trouble.”
They spent the next few hours talking quietly, each of them taking turns to keep her company as she drifted in and out of sleep. The doctor came by later, confirming that she was stabilizing but would need more rest to fully recover. It seemed the nightmares and stress had pushed her body to the brink, but with time and support, she would heal.
As the night wore on, Camille looked at each of them, feeling overwhelmed by gratitude. “Thank you,” she whispered, her eyes misty. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
Noah leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “You’ll never have to find out. We’re here for you, always.”
With her family by her side, Camille felt the lingering fear and darkness start to fade. She knew that, no matter what, they would face everything together, and for the first time in days, she felt truly safe.
