Between Four of Us

Chapter 83

Ch. 83 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

The night passed in restless silence. Camille eventually drifted into a light, fitful sleep, but the unsettling feeling lingered, casting shadows over her dreams. She awoke the next morning feeling strange—a mix of exhaustion and nausea that was stronger than anything she’d felt before. She brushed it off, hoping it was just a bad reaction to the stress of the past few days and the relentless nightmares that had worn her down.

But as she sat up, a wave of dizziness hit her hard, making the room spin. She gripped the edge of the bed, waiting for the sensation to pass, but instead, her stomach churned violently, and she barely made it to the bathroom before she began vomiting.

“Camille?” she heard Noah’s voice from outside the door, filled with concern. He knocked softly, then pushed the door open to see her leaning over the sink, pale and shaking.

“Noah…” she managed to whisper, her voice weak. “I don’t know what’s happening. I feel… awful.”

He rushed to her side, gently guiding her to sit on the edge of the bathtub. “It’s okay. I’m right here. Just take deep breaths.”

Camille tried, but her stomach rebelled again, and another bout of nausea hit her, leaving her gasping for air. Her vision blurred, and she felt Noah’s hand on her back, grounding her, his presence a small comfort amidst the chaos.

By then, Leo and Matthew had heard the commotion and joined them in the bathroom, their faces etched with worry.

“Camille, are you alright?” Leo asked, his voice soft but strained as he knelt beside her, reaching out to steady her.

She shook her head, clutching her stomach as another wave of dizziness washed over her. “I don’t know… I feel so sick. I can’t stop… vomiting.”

Matthew exchanged a worried glance with Noah, his face tense. “This isn’t normal. We should get her to the hospital. Better to be safe.”

Camille tried to protest, but her strength was fading fast, and her words slurred as the world around her started to blur again. She felt herself being lifted gently, Noah’s arms cradling her as he carried her to the car, his expression filled with concern.

“Hang on, Camille,” he whispered as they settled her into the backseat. “We’re taking you to the hospital. You’re going to be okay.”

Camille’s eyelids felt heavy, her mind slipping in and out of focus as they sped toward the hospital. She could hear the murmur of their voices, each of them trying to reassure her, but it felt like they were miles away, their words muffled as a deep, aching exhaustion settled over her.

When they arrived at the hospital, everything was a blur—a flurry of voices, bright lights, and the sensation of being lifted onto a stretcher. She tried to stay awake, but the exhaustion was overwhelming, pulling her deeper into a haze she couldn’t fight.

Doctors and nurses moved around her, voices blending into a low hum as they checked her vitals and connected her to monitors. She caught fragments of their conversations—“blood pressure dropping,” “extreme dehydration,” “need to run tests immediately.” Each word heightened her fear, but she was too weak to ask questions, too drained to do anything but lie there, her body heavy and unresponsive.

Noah stayed by her side, his hand gripping hers tightly. “Camille, just hang in there. You’re strong. You and the baby… you’re going to be okay. I’m right here.”

She managed a faint smile, wanting to reassure him, but another wave of nausea rolled over her, and she felt herself slipping further into the darkness. The last thing she saw was Noah’s face, etched with worry, before everything faded away completely.

When Camille didn’t wake up after several hours, the doctors moved her to a private room for observation. Noah, Leo, and Matthew paced anxiously in the waiting area, each of them battling a mixture of worry and helplessness.

“What could’ve caused this?” Leo muttered, running a hand through his hair. “She was fine yesterday, just tired from those nightmares. But this…”

Matthew shook his head, his face grim. “It doesn’t make sense. She’s healthy, the pregnancy’s been normal so far… What if this is something serious?”

Noah, who had been silent, looked up, his jaw clenched. “Whatever it is, we’re going to figure it out. Camille’s strong. She’s going to wake up and pull through this, for herself and for the baby.”

Just then, a doctor entered the waiting room, his expression calm but serious. “Mr. Laurent, Mr. Matthews, Mr. Archer,” he said, addressing them. “We’ve stabilized Camille for now, but she’s in a deep state of exhaustion. Her body is under significant stress, and we’re running tests to determine the exact cause of her symptoms.”

Noah stepped forward, his voice barely steady. “What could be causing this? She was healthy, no complications.”

The doctor nodded. “Yes, she was. Sometimes severe stress can trigger physical symptoms, especially during pregnancy. But we’re exploring all possibilities. For now, she needs rest and fluids. We’re monitoring her vitals closely, and once we have more information, we’ll let you know.”

“Can we see her?” Leo asked, his voice quiet.

The doctor nodded. “Yes, but try to keep things calm. She’s not fully conscious, but she may be able to hear you. Sometimes, hearing familiar voices can be comforting.”

They thanked the doctor and followed him to Camille’s room, where she lay peacefully, her face pale and her breathing steady but shallow. Noah took a seat beside her bed, holding her hand gently, his thumb brushing over her knuckles.

“Camille,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “We’re here. You’re going to get through this.”

Leo and Matthew stood by the bed, each of them silent, watching her with a mixture of love and worry. The sight of her lying so still was almost unbearable; they were used to her strength, her warmth, her laughter. Seeing her so vulnerable was a painful reminder of how much she meant to each of them.

As the hours passed, they took turns sitting by her side, talking to her in the hopes that their voices would reach her, somehow guiding her back. They shared memories, little stories, anything to fill the silence and keep their spirits up.

“Remember that time you made us help with the nursery?” Leo murmured, smiling faintly. “We were just a bunch of clueless guys, and you were so patient with us, even when I suggested neon green. You probably thought we’d never finish, but you didn’t give up on us.”

Matthew chuckled softly, his voice steady but tender. “You’re always so determined, Camille. You bring out the best in us. We’re not giving up on you, either.”

Noah leaned in, his eyes never leaving her face. “Camille, you’re going to wake up soon, okay? You’re going to open your eyes, and we’re going to keep building this life together. We’re going to welcome our daughter, and she’s going to have the best mom in the world.”
