Between Four of Us

Chapter 80

Ch. 80 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

As Camille settled in over the next few days, feeling rested and re-energized after her fainting spell, she turned her thoughts to the baby’s room. She knew she wanted the nursery to be a warm, inviting space—a place where her little girl would feel safe and loved. Noah, Leo, and Matthew, always eager to help, were more than happy to take on the task, though their enthusiasm quickly turned the nursery project into a whirlwind of opinions, ideas, and, as always, plenty of banter.

“So, Camille,” Leo said one morning, arms crossed and brow furrowed as he examined the bare nursery walls. “What’s the color scheme here? I’m seeing neon green and purple. Maybe a little splash of gold?”

Camille laughed, shaking her head. “Neon green? For a baby’s room? We’re trying to make a nursery, not a nightclub.”

Matthew, who was already standing by the wall with a paint sample in his hand, snorted. “Trust me, Camille. If Leo’s involved, it might still end up looking like a nightclub.”

Leo shrugged, completely unbothered. “What? I just want her to be a trendsetter from day one. Think about it—no baby’s ever had a neon green room before.”

Noah grinned, leaning over to ruffle Leo’s hair. “You’re banned from choosing colors. Besides, Camille already picked out a theme. Isn’t that right?”

Camille nodded, holding up a soft pastel swatch of lavender. “I was thinking something gentle and calming, like lavender and cream with a few touches of greenery. Something that feels… peaceful.”

Leo raised an eyebrow, feigning horror. “Peaceful? Where’s the fun in that?”

Matthew smirked, nudging him. “Not every room needs to be a circus, Leo. I think it sounds perfect, Camille.”

With that settled, they each took on a role in setting up the nursery. Matthew, the ever-practical one, offered to handle the painting. He put on his best serious face, determined to get every brushstroke just right, while Leo and Noah kept finding “creative” ways to make the task more entertaining.

“Matthew, you missed a spot!” Leo called out, pointing to a minuscule patch near the floor.

Matthew shot him a look. “Are you really going to stand there and critique my technique, or are you going to help?”

Leo shrugged, grabbing a smaller paintbrush and dabbing it on the wall with exaggerated precision. “Just adding my artistic touch, brother. You should be thanking me.”

Noah chuckled, watching the two of them bicker as he started assembling the crib. “You two might want to save the drama for when the baby’s actually here. I think we’ve got a few months left before she’s judging our decorating skills.”

Camille, sitting in a rocking chair they’d just placed by the window, smiled as she watched them. It was like having her own comedy show on top of getting the nursery set up. “If you guys can keep this up, she’s going to have plenty of laughs from day one.”

As the afternoon wore on, they began hanging up soft prints of animals and adding little touches around the room—a woven basket of baby blankets, a set of storybooks on a small shelf, and a mobile shaped like stars and moons. Each detail made the room feel more like a nursery, more real, and Camille could hardly believe how close she was to welcoming her daughter into the world.

Once they were done with the decorating, Leo flopped onto the floor, dramatically stretching out his arms. “Okay, team—phase one is complete. Now we need to tackle phase two: names.”

Camille raised her eyebrows, chuckling. “Oh, do you have a list, Leo?”

He sat up, grinning mischievously. “I might have a few ideas. Let’s see… how about ‘Thunder’?”

Matthew rolled his eyes. “Absolutely not.”

Leo pretended to look hurt. “What? ‘Thunder’ would be a bold, unforgettable name. She’d make an impression!”

Noah laughed, crossing his arms as he leaned against the crib. “Right, because when I think of ‘cute baby girl,’ the first name that comes to mind is ‘Thunder.’”

Camille shook her head, biting back a smile. “I think I’ll pass on ‘Thunder,’ Leo. But I do want her to have a strong, meaningful name.”

Leo shrugged, not discouraged. “Fine, fine. How about something classic then? Like… Eleanor. Or… Luna?”

Camille paused, considering. “Luna is actually really sweet. I like that.”

Noah nodded, his eyes thoughtful. “Luna could work. It’s simple but has a lot of charm.”

Matthew, looking more serious than usual, spoke up. “How about a name with a little family meaning? Something that connects her to you, Camille. Maybe something French?”

Camille’s heart warmed at the suggestion. “That’s a beautiful idea, Matthew. My grandmother’s name was Colette… I always loved it.”

Leo nodded approvingly. “Colette! Now we’re getting somewhere. Classy, a little unique. I like it.”

Noah smiled, reaching over to take her hand. “Colette Luna? It has a nice ring to it. And it honors your family too.”

Camille’s eyes sparkled as she said the name aloud, testing it. “Colette Luna… I love it. It feels right.”

The brothers nodded in agreement, each of them clearly invested in every detail of the name choice. Leo put on a mock-serious face. “Well, it’s settled then. Our little Colette Luna will officially be the coolest kid around. And I’m calling dibs on first dance at her future wedding.”

Matthew laughed, shaking his head. “You’re already planning the wedding?”

Leo winked. “Always think ahead, Matthew. Besides, someone has to make sure she doesn’t end up with some boring, no-fun guy.”

Camille laughed, feeling a surge of love for each of them. “With uncles like you three, I don’t think I’ll ever have to worry about Colette missing out on fun—or protection.”

They spent the rest of the afternoon putting the finishing touches on the nursery, each of them adding personal touches that made the room feel even more special. By the time they stepped back to look at their work, the nursery was complete—a cozy haven filled with soft colors, meaningful decorations, and the kind of warmth that only came from love.

As they admired their work, Leo crossed his arms with a grin. “I have to say, we did a pretty good job. Colette Luna’s got herself the best nursery in town.”

Noah wrapped an arm around Camille, pulling her close as they stood together, looking around the room that would soon be filled with their daughter’s laughter and memories. “She’s going to be so lucky to have you all in her life.”

Matthew smiled, his hand resting on Camille’s shoulder. “We’re the lucky ones, Camille. This little girl is going to be surrounded by love from day one.”
