Between Four of Us

Chapter 74

Ch. 74 / 250 Jun 22, 2025

Camille stood in the center of the cabin, the photograph clutched tightly in her hands as she watched Leo and Matthew strategize. Over the past days, their protective instincts had grown even sharper, and they had been combing through every resource, every possible lead, to track down the person who had been harassing her. But this latest threat—a photograph taken from right outside the cabin—had escalated things. Whoever was behind these threats was not only watching, but had made it clear they were just waiting for a chance to strike.

“We can’t wait any longer,” Leo said, his face set in determination as he paced across the room. “They’ve been careful, but they’re bound to slip up somewhere. We’re going to track them down.”

Matthew nodded, his expression just as fierce. “We’ve already pulled every connection we have. I know someone who might be able to trace this photograph, someone who works in private security and owes me a favor. If they can find out where this image was processed or who might have taken it, it could give us our answer.”

Camille listened, her heart pounding. For the first time in days, a glimmer of hope flickered within her. She had been living in fear, constantly on edge, but now she felt something shift. The brothers were determined to end this—and so was she.

A few tense hours passed as Matthew worked with his contact, sending the image over for analysis and scouring through databases to trace any unusual activity in the area surrounding the cabin. Leo stayed by Camille’s side, offering reassuring smiles and quiet jokes to keep her spirits up, even though she could see the worry etched in his eyes.

Finally, just as dusk settled over the cabin, Matthew’s phone buzzed with an incoming call. He glanced at the screen, his expression hardening as he answered. “Matthew here… You found something?”

Camille and Leo leaned in, holding their breaths as they listened to Matthew’s side of the conversation. Matthew’s eyes narrowed as he listened intently, his mouth set in a grim line. “So, the camera data… It’s tied to an address? Yes… got it. Thank you. This means a lot.”

He hung up, turning to Camille and Leo with a look of determination. “They traced the image to a small property about an hour from here. It’s a rented cabin, one that’s frequently used by people looking to keep off the grid. Whoever’s been stalking us is staying there.”

Leo’s eyes lit up with fierce resolve. “Then it’s time we pay them a visit. No more waiting, no more fear.”

Camille nodded, feeling a surge of strength. She had been running long enough. It was time to face whoever had been behind these threats, once and for all.

They drove in tense silence, the darkening sky and thick trees adding a sense of foreboding as they approached the cabin address. Matthew parked a short distance away, and they made their way quietly through the woods, careful to avoid detection. The cabin came into view, its lights dim, and a faint outline of a figure was visible through the window.

They exchanged a quick glance, and Leo motioned for them to stay behind as he crept closer, peering through a gap in the blinds. After a moment, he nodded, signaling them to approach.

Inside the cabin was a man seated at a table, sorting through papers and a collection of surveillance equipment. Camille’s pulse quickened as she recognized some of the items—camera footage, voice modulating devices, and a few pictures of her and the brothers, taken at different points over the past few months.

Matthew and Leo moved forward, their expressions cold as they entered the cabin, catching the man by surprise. He looked up, his face paling as he saw them.

“Who are you?” Leo demanded, his voice low and dangerous. “Why have you been harassing Camille?”

The man’s hands trembled as he raised them defensively. “Look, I’m just doing what I was paid to do! I didn’t mean any real harm, alright?”

Matthew’s jaw tightened. “Who paid you? Tell us, or this ends badly for you.”

The man swallowed, his eyes darting between them in desperation. “It was… it was an anonymous job. I never saw the client in person. Just instructions—wire payments and details on where to find her. I was only supposed to scare her, make her reconsider going through with the pregnancy.”

Camille’s stomach twisted, but she felt a surge of relief that this man, at least, had only intended to frighten her, not to cause her or the baby physical harm.

“Give us all the information you have on this client,” Matthew demanded, his voice ice-cold. “Now.”

Under the brothers’ intense gaze, the man scrambled to hand over his files, including the payment information and a list of emails used for their correspondence. Leo and Matthew scanned the information, jotting down every detail they could.

Satisfied, they left the man with a final warning: if he or anyone else ever contacted Camille again, there would be consequences. He nodded fearfully, making it clear he wanted no further involvement.

On the drive back, Camille felt a weight lift from her shoulders. The source of the threats had been found, and she finally felt as though she could breathe again. But as she looked out the window, her mind turned to the implications. Someone had hired this man to harass her into ending the pregnancy. That meant there was someone out there with a deeper agenda, someone who wanted to erase any trace of Noah’s legacy.

That night, as they sat together by the fire, Camille voiced her thoughts. “Someone paid that man to scare me… but they never revealed their identity. This isn’t over, is it?”

Leo placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “We’ve dealt with the immediate threat. But you’re right, Camille. We can’t ignore the fact that there’s a larger force at play.”

Matthew nodded, his gaze somber. “We’ll need to be on guard. Someone out there clearly sees this baby as a threat.”

Camille sighed, her hand instinctively resting on her belly. “I just want a life where I don’t have to look over my shoulder every day.”

“We’re going to make sure you get that life,” Leo said firmly, his hand covering hers. “We’ll dig deeper, uncover whatever’s left of this shadowy network. But right now, you need to focus on yourself and the baby.”

Camille nodded, exhaustion and relief mingling within her. “I don’t know how to thank you both. I would’ve lost hope if you hadn’t been here.”

Matthew leaned closer, his eyes softening. “We’re family, Camille. You don’t need to thank us. We’re in this together, for the long haul.”

A small smile touched her lips as she looked between them, her heart swelling with gratitude. The love and support they offered her was unwavering, and she knew that as long as they were by her side, she could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

But just as a sense of calm settled over them, her phone buzzed, breaking the peace. She glanced at the screen, her face paling as she read the message.

It was a simple text from an unknown number: You may have silenced one of my messengers, but I am not so easily stopped.
