The morning was cold and quiet, but the tension in the house felt like a storm brewing. Camille had barely slept, her mind haunted by Ethan’s smug grin and the cryptic message she had overheard. She sipped her coffee in the kitchen, trying to steady herself, when a knock echoed through the house.
Noah appeared from the living room, his expression tense. “Who would be here this early?”
Matthew joined him, his brows furrowed as he opened the door. On the porch sat a small package, wrapped neatly in brown paper and tied with string. There was no return address—only Camille’s name written in bold, black letters.
“Don’t touch it,” Matthew said sharply, his hand hovering near Noah’s.
Leo arrived, his face set with caution. “Could be a trap.”
“I’ll check it,” Noah said, leaning in for a closer look. He inspected the package carefully, holding it up to the light, his jaw tightening as he turned it over. Finally, he nodded and handed it to Camille. “No obvious danger, but we’ll be ready if something’s off.”
Camille hesitated, staring at the package like it might bite her. Her fingers trembled as she reached for it. “I have to open it,” she said, her voice low. “If it’s from him, I need to know what game he’s playing.”
Leo placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You don’t have to. Whatever it is, we’ll deal with it.”
But Camille shook her head. “No. He wants to scare me, to control me. I won’t let him. Not anymore.”
She carried the package to the table and slowly unwrapped it. Beneath the paper was a small wooden box, its surface polished and smooth. Her heart pounded as she lifted the lid.
Inside was a photograph lying on top of a stack of papers. The photo made her blood run cold—it was of her, Noah, Matthew, and Leo, taken through the window of their home. They were laughing, a rare moment of peace captured without their knowledge.
Her stomach churned. “He’s been watching us,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Matthew grabbed the stack of papers beneath the photo and began leafing through them. His expression darkened with each page. “These are forged legal documents,” he said, his tone sharp with anger. “Divorce filings, custody petitions, financial records—all fake. He’s trying to make it look like we’re abandoning you.”
“What?” Camille’s voice broke, disbelief and fury clashing within her. She reached for the papers, her hands trembling as she skimmed them. Each document painted a devastating picture: Noah, Matthew, and Leo filing for divorce, claiming custody of her unborn child, and draining her accounts.
Her knees buckled, and she gripped the back of a chair to steady herself. “Why would he do this?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Why would he go this far?”
Matthew’s jaw tightened, his eyes burning with anger. “He’s trying to isolate you. To make you doubt us and yourself. This is psychological warfare.”
Leo slammed his fist on the table, his voice a low growl. “He wants to destroy her life, piece by piece, until there’s nothing left.”
Noah’s expression remained calm, but his hands were clenched into fists at his sides. “We’re not letting him do this,” he said firmly. “We’ve dealt with threats before, but this… this is personal.”
Camille sank into a chair, clutching the photo. “What if he succeeds?” she asked, her voice trembling. “What if people believe this? What if—”
“Stop,” Noah interrupted, crouching in front of her and taking her hands in his. “He’s not going to succeed. We’re not going anywhere, Camille. Not now, not ever.”
“Damn right,” Matthew added, pacing the room. “This is just another scare tactic. He wants you to feel powerless.”
Leo knelt beside her, his voice softer but no less determined. “We’ve got you, Camille. Whatever his plan is, we’ll shut it down.”
Camille took a shaky breath, nodding, though the fear still lingered. “What do we do?”
“We take control,” Matthew said, his voice cold and decisive. “We find out how he’s orchestrating this and shut him down. If he wants a fight, we’ll give him one.”
Leo’s eyes narrowed. “First step: track where this package came from. He had to leave a trail somewhere.”
Noah straightened, his expression grim. “And while we’re doing that, we keep an eye on her.
He’s watching, which means he’s close. Too close.”
The weight of their words settled over Camille, but beneath the fear, a spark of resolve began to grow. Ethan had terrorized her before, but she wasn’t the same person she had been back then.
She wasn’t alone anymore.
As the brothers began making plans, Camille’s phone buzzed on the table. She picked it up, her heart skipping a beat when she saw the message:
“I warned you, Camille. This is just the beginning.”
Her hands shook as she showed the message to the brothers. Matthew’s face darkened, and
Leo swore under his breath.
“Enough,” Leo said, his voice sharp. “We destroy him first.”
